    $2200 ?
    already pre-ordered three kits

22OO$ for the whole would be quite cheap actually...

I highly doubt that, maybe in 18+ months. The top 3 items alone will likely run $2000 on their own ( if we are talking 1366 ). A more realistic total would be $2800-3000. And who knows by the time Nehalem launches NVidia may have dethroned the X2.

lol you are aiming for the premium why you surprised at the price? Also why you got 6GB of RAM, very odd combo you got 4+2, 4+1+1, 2+2+2? RAM always works better in pairs, dual channel.

    EDIT: lol quote spam.

If I remember correctly, Nehalem boards will be running triple-channel RAM, hence the 6GB (3 x 2GB)

As for being somewhat on topic, looks like I might have to replace my OCZ 700w when this card comes out...

obviously he wants the tri-channel board, so he can slap 1GB sticks in each slot (there will be 6 slots total.) or 3x2gb.

My point was, that in about 4 months, we are going to be building some seriously sick machines. Video cards alone, arn't the only major advancement that going to be helping our apps/games.

TPU is off their rockers.. He just said they're running four cards, akin to the Belgian 4x9800GX2 machine.

4870X2 only has one CF connector. You can't run four cards in CF.

    YOU can't, but AMD can:
"AMD has already built a computer that has four 4870X2s in it."

I suppose they x-fire connect via the chipset, bypassing the crossfire connectors.

While AMD might have already built a system with 4 HD 4870X2s on it, that doesn't mean ALL are used for gaming purpose -hey, 2 units for quadXfire gaming while the other 2 doing some crunching or hardware transcoding, that makes sense, correct ?

I doubt any of them were for gaming purposes.

    R700 Supports 4-way Crossfire X

You can use upto four HD4870 X2
accelerators in tandem for an 8-GPU, 9.6 TFLOP, 8 GB graphics crunching
    monster
. You need a 4-slot motherboard though. There are 4-slot
solutions available on the AMD 790FX platform, for Intel though X48 did
support 4 slots and images of prototype X48 boards with 4 slots did surface
months back, there isn't such a board out yet. You do have the Skulltrail
platform and upcoming X58 Bloomfield-supportive boards do promise to come
    in 4 slot flavours.

In a press-conference, Raja Koduri, worldwide CTO (Products Group), AMD
talked to Indian website TechTree, among minor revelations such as "Fusion
    in 2009", here's a shocker:

"AMD has already built a computer that has four 4870X2s in it. So it has
eight GPUs; drivers will not be supporting eight GPUs at this point of time."

-Implies that AMD is fully geared up to go head on against GT200b whenever
it comes up. It's all a matter of them releasing a supportive driver. Again,
unreliable sources point towards the possibility that also in the pipeline could
be a R700+ which could be based on 'Super-RV770XT' processors. If you
thought you're witnessing the peak of the GPU battle for supremacy, hold on,
    you're only getting appetised.

    9.6 TFLOP wtf!

yap ATI didn't followed nvidia 3 way SLI, they're going 4 Way Full
Crossfire... Mobos??? Skulltrail, X58 e AMD 790FX platform!

well, I think it's possible, but it would be stupid to do so.. each gpu waiting for it's turn would be highly inefficient.. it would be more like "round robin" with more than 2 gpus.

With 8 GPU's on tandem, we many finally need to upgrade our CPU's .. : (

For 8 GPUs, they really need to perfect supertiling.

Yah, man. Dual socket quads with 8 GPU's anybody? BAM! Take that Crysis, you little .

You'll be able to sell your furnace and just use your rig in the winter.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

ati is a company that takes drivers as a serious thing, i wish nvidia would do the same with her drivers as Ati.. [Nv Fan]
