    Hi MSIMAX!
I tried pulling the HTT to 400 (in bios) and there was no problem on booting (As before the processor is still at stock speed), and the overclocking capability wasn't changed.
The same happens also on 255HTT
But I noticed that The system shows signs of instability when reaching 750MHz of DDR2 speed even if we set 533 or 667, so the main problem is related to the barcelona IMC which isn't capable of handling memory speed over 667 (maybe 750MHz is the tech limit).
If we place a couple of DDR2400 memory that is capable of reaching 750 MHz, we could overclock our barcelonas up to 3.2/3.4 GHz...
However neither bank interleave or node interleave options are disabling the dual channel mode.... WTF!!!!

    Hey Likmark!
How did you set the 266 divisor in bios without vista & XP bluescreen results???
I was able to set the 266 divisor only when dual channel is disabled...
Now no more ways to do it, every combination i try with ram modules results in a bluescreen in os bootup with 266 divider...
    tell me your trick!

    Suggestion

My next motherboard will be one of these:

    option 1
    http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/moth...55/H8DA3-2.cfm
    option 2
    http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/moth...55/H8DAi-2.cfm

both of them uses MCP55Pro (L1N64 uses MCP55) and fully supports SLIx16 and Quad core opterons (even 2360SE models).

    Returning back to my pc....
Now i'm setting my memory manually to 667 (800 default) in order to boot properly.
But when I set the bios on 533 the OS wont boot.... what about reflashing a modified SPD with default DDR2-533 bootup????
    will this change may situation???
Or the problem is inside the memory controller???

The board is the H8DAi-2 with MCP55Pro

but there are no bios options for voltage regulation etc.
you only can choose a ram devider...

maybe overclocking is possible through rw everything like on kfn5d and kfn32d

yes, its a great forum. i won't overclock my opteron system, else i would have bought a kfn5d-sli from asus. but maybe someone is interested in overclocking his opterons via rw everything. infos can be found on 2cpu.com as you mentioned

Hey guys. Still at holiday, but had to check in on you

    Nice oc yankee

I'm 99.9% sure it is subtimings and 1t command rate that kills your oc. As Msimax said the bios probably sets too tight subtimings.

To boot (I'm using Vista x64 btw) with 266 memclk (4/3 divisor) and dualchannel configuration, I used "manual" settings for loose subtimings, I'll test with "limit" setting too and see what happens when I come home.

You could boot with different divisors and "manual/limit" settings and compare subtimings with memset/AOD, to check wich setting gives the loosest subtimings and if the bios sets the same timings each time with the different configurations.

    Cool K9ND is here!

Hey guys, guess what the postman brought this morning

Now I just need an 8mb BIOS chip and some processors (and an extra CPU waterblock and a radiator and to finish making a full-cover block for my RAID controller and...)

I digress. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

    Nice board, good layout

Wich processors are you gunning for? You were going for the second gen Opterons right?

Edit: BTW Yankee, came home last night, tested some 266memclk settings, and experienced bluescreens like you describe...
Needs more testing.. Tested both "limit" and "manual" settings with the same result. Booted into windows with bank and node interleaving turned off, but bluescreened after 15 sec..

A cold boot might be needed for subtimings to set correctly, did not have time to test that yesterday..

    And..

Someone mentioned bad placement of the atx power connector, well that is NOTHING compared to the placement of the bios battery.. Under the gfx, very practical when you need to reset bios

The 2222/2224 and 8222/8224 are going at ebay for about 100USD each these days. What kind of ram will you be using? Won't you be needing reg ram with that many slots/channels?

Yeah, I want to have 4gb of RAM per CPU (and maybe upgrade to 8gb in the future) so I'm gonna go for registered to avoid any bottlenecks. I'll need registered memory for when I upgrade to quad-cores anyway, won't I?

what a steal right my 8224s would have cost me $4000 in a store. i just dont see the justification for their high prices is it me or all k8 chips the same just different packages

edit- i just lapped $4k worth of hardware

Hehe, I can post here soon, too - K8N-DL on the way

Hopefully it supports 8-way CPUs, too. Can't wait to try my opty 856's

Nice knopflerbruce. Looks like the board supports some 8-way cpus at least. Anyways, socket 940 cpu's are dirt cheap at ebay

Yes it's crazy, stores in Norway wants 2000NOK, about 400USD/195GBP/245EUR for one 2347.. got two for 200USD on ebay... It is because it is for the corporates, they can charge whatever they want..

How much did you lap them? Pics..

BTW you'll have to post some pics Dual dry ice action?

    Got my second cpu yesterday

Poor vista is a little confused.

    Nuclearus with mild overclock.

    Cinbench @stock

As you can see ht link for cpu#2 is at 200, 1 multiplier for some reason. Also need to find out a solution for the memclk 266 bluescreen problem.

Edit: Almost forgot.. Boinc CPU benchmark @ stock:

Edit2: My power meter shows 390W powerdraw (from the wall) from my system when running core damage. I reckon it will pass 450W - close on 500W with gfx running at max too

I found a list where it said that it supports Opteron 875/880 - but if this board supports those two, it'll support other dual core 8xx models, too. No 8xx single cores were listed, but I saw a post where some dude ran 2 854's and a k8n-dl. Then my 856's should work, too

I think I have 15-20 s940 chips, kinda annoying to just let them rot in one of my CPU boxes without having overclocked them

    Next mission: L1N64

You have only single cores or dual cores too in you candybox ? L1N64 goes for 1300NOK on Amentio I think. It is "cheap" at least if you compare the price two months ago, when they cost 2500NOK.

With my two 2210EE Opterons on my SM H8DAi-2 the HT link for CPU2 is also at 200MHz all the time. No idea how to fix it...or is it a bug?

Tictac showed how to change ht fid on both cpus with msr editors in s7e9h3n's thread. I have not gotten around to test it yet.

    HT Link 2

    Hey Likmark,
If you want to change the Ht link for processor 2, download "BAR_Edit" which is the only program that flawlessy works under Vista x64.
    then go to:
"Bus.0 Dev.24 Fct.0" and aim for "0C0" row and "08" column; you'll see the 80750060 value which represents the 3rd HT link and set it to 6 if you want HT link at 1000MHz.
You'll have to change the HT Link speed also for processor 2 in order to make the system work by choosing "Bus.0 Dev.25 Fct.0" and make the same changes.
One tip about HT link overclock:
This motherboard is designed to support the LinkBoost capability, so the HT link is overDesigned to sustain at least 1.25GHz (2.5GHz) HT speed.
If we overclock the cpu(s) by increasing the FSB not over 250MHz we'll be able to leave the HT multiplier to 5x (1GHz)......
It worked good and with no problems....
The main problem still remains: We're not able to run the system with 533 (266x2) divisor with dual channel memory configuration.
    Any Idea???
