Whats your FSBxmulti? Mine is 475x8.
I dont think your going to get very far with your CPU and NB GTL's being on Auto. NB may need more juice too.

Man, this motherboard is really picky with RAM settings...
Later I'll try a different pair of DIMM's just to see if I'm a little bit more successful.
It's a pair of 2x 2GB Teamgroup DDR2 Xtreem Dark PC2-8500.
I'll post my results in the meanwhile.

Running moderate too mate...Tony from OCZ finds the chipset very picky regarding ram once you go 4Gb and high speeds...
To all the users with ram problems and 4 dimms did you try to get ya OC with 2 dimms only ? 4 dimms tend to stress Nb and co loads more...
Many low multi quad users tend to push high FSB and run into trouble... it's pretty hard to find stable settings for everyone as voltages/settings are really a mixup... I have a Xeon puzzling me at the moment... once I go over 470ish I get erratic behaviour... no matter which board I use (P5K, Striker or P5Q series) , cooling, bios, RAM : it's the CPU with me...
Also to anyone who flashes a bios, plz start from zero and do not load any OC profiles... flash bios, reboot, set defaults, reboot and then start ya settings one by one... and new biosses aren't always better for all... many think that a new bios improves performance each time... some users may find it fab, some may have more problems or issues then before... The golden rule if it ain't broke don't fix it : still valid...
Also because ya neighbour can do 500FSB doesn't mean that you can... some luck is involved : getting good components, no hardware incompatabilities,... there are too many factors involved in getting a decent OC... sometimes you have to settle with less...

I could get pl 7 stable at 9.5 x 450 with 1086mhz cl4 timings.
NOw I'm at pl 7 stable at 9.5 x 448 with 1194mhz cl5 timings, I couldn't push further since my mem won't get stable over 1194.
But I think pl depends more on your memory tho, not the mobo.
Also I found in my case that when I use lower FSB Strap like 266, it was difficult to stabilize dram even if I use lower frequencies.
So if anyone's having trouble with OCing memory, I would suggest you use fsb straps 333 or 400.

have you adjusted the GTL settings
do you find the hd4870 runns hot mine does

If ur 4870 runs too hot, that's probably because the fan is set to 23%speed at max. Create a profile on CCC and edit the fanspeed setting around 35% "manual". Temp. will drop to under 50C at idle if u have a decent air flow.
The profile you created should be under
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE folder if using windows xp pro.
Oh, nvm. ur on water. Maybe ur mosfet needs better heatsink + active cooling. I found that the mosfet was the one getting the highest temp. on 4870.

coolpain, nice mem bench ... but the problems with PL appear with the quads and 4gb of mem.
With the speeds at my sig any strap <> 266 won't give access to PL=8, and PL=7 only in my dreams![]()

Super Speed disk mode is probably the same thing as RAID 0, just that ASUS tools manage it in the easiest possible way so users don't have to mess around with advanced RAID settings.
Btw, can someone tell me what exactly is that 8 pin connector close to the CPU socket (where you plug the ATX cable). Usually there is just 4 pin connector for ATX power but here there are 8 of them (4 are closed by a cap). To use it with 2 separate ATX power rails?

jVIDIA,
it's probably tougher to oc 2gb modules or using full bank. But for dual core w/ 1gb modules, higher strap would make it a lot easier to find a stable mem clock. BTW I think p5q's don't give really great mem. performance. I thought I would get under 50sec latency with this much cpu & mem. speed.

That 8pin 12v power connector is to be used with a PSU that have a 8pin 12v power cable.
If you don't have it just plugin the 4pin connector that comes uncoverd.

In the mobo manual speaks to insert the memory in yellow slot to get a better overclock. I will put a cooler of 92mm to 38mm wide on my noctua, and I think it will pic in heatsink of my tracers. Someone already confirmed that the yellow slots are best for overclock?
thanks![]()

how to figure out gtl reference volts ?
use extra HD w/ extra OS. I corrupted a few installs playing.
Adjust each way until you find stability is lost, up and down. mid-point will be stable.
If adjusting 2 GTL values(quad), only adjust one at a time.
Personally, I found .61/.63 good for 45nm, .65/.67 for 65nm, quads, of course. .61 for E8500, .67 for E6600.

Hi all,
At last I finished reading all the pages of this thread.
I 've been using P5Q-dlx for the past few days and I am quite happy with it.
I own a stupid Q6600/rev.B3 which isn't much, but with this board I managed
to take it up to 3.40Ghz, and for 24/7 at 3.20GHz (with only 1.325v)
Also managed to take the Reapers up to 1200MHz.
My previous set-ups were:
-- e-vga NF680 SLI + Q6600/B3, max. 2.9GHz, 1.40V
-- Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 + Q6600/B3, max. 3.0GHz, 1.40V
My idle temps are 35C with Real Temp - load at 54-55C with OCCT.
Not finished yet ...
Also Asus removed the 1003 bios from the P5Q dlx website!!
