Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Do you recommend keeping

SB Voltage: at default 1.10 or 1.20
PCIE SATA Voltage: AUTO (1.50) or 1.60

    with my E8400

I see mixed settings on these two. Currently i run them at default but seeing overvolting with other voltages I'm bit scared now

    Frustration Galore!
I can't figure this one out guys - if possible, please weigh in!

I was on 3.8Ghz for well over a week, running all sorts of Exhaustive operations with full 24/7 Stability. Then I flashed to 0901 and everything went downhill from there. Couldn't get back to Stable 3.8Ghz. Flashed down to 0803 and finally to 0706. Finally I was able to get back to 3.8Ghz. It was running fine for a couple of days but the last few days it's become unstable again. Cores are failing in Prime95. System Reboots.

I'm not sure what's going on. Everything was perfect & peachy before I flashed to 0901. Anyhow, these are my settings:

Lucifer try a slight bump in Vcore and drop the ram to 1.92 or such... some CPU's have a burn in period and then require a small bump in vcore to remain stable... otherwise you can always try 1102 bios, works fine here...

Anyway Priming my brand new Xeon 3.6Ghz for a few days and then back to 4ghz or more... seems a nice one 1.1volts for 3.6ghz... thx man for this beauty

Make a Ghost or such on another partition... I alwys do that : one clean install (ust the OS) and one full install with all drivers and my fav games preinstalled... if it crashes or goes corrupt... takes me 5 minutes to redo it

I've have exactly the same issue.
My board was doing extremely well and then suddenly everything went downhill.
My board was originally on 0605 and I've tried some of the other but to no avail.

I've changed the ram (Corsair CL4 to OCZ Platinum) : same issue
I've changed the hdd (tried Raptor, WD640, Samsung F1) : same issue

I've ordered a new board + Mushkin XP2-8000 and it arrives tomorrow.

Leeghoofd mentioned a burn-in for the CPU but I'm starting to wonder if there is a burn-in for the mobo.

    My board is downright unstable.

I was looking into it last night but I have a raid setup and I don't have any extra drives to back the image up to.

Can the mobo be used inverted? I read from somewhere that the heatpipe cooling system goes all to hell and fries nb or something if it's used inverted.

With inverted I mean as in Lian Li v2000 models where window is in the right side of the case when viewed from front.

I use inverted in my Stacker and have no probs. Temp in my mobo is 38C and I didn't reapply AS5 or Ceramique. No need to.

Heatpipes are not affected by gravity (much, more by thermodynamics). Their ecosystem works internally. Heat is is always going to the other end of the heatpipe regardless of how it's turned.
There is slight edge though if the cooling part is top side since heat always goes up, meaning it will do that faster.

I'll bring up the CPU vCore to 1.37xxx and see how it goes. Will try dropping RAM too. I'll also Flash to 1102 (Since 0706 isn't responding any better then any other BIOS, no reason to stick with it anymore) and see if that makes any difference. Thanks Lee.

Let me know how your new board makes out. It's something I've considered myself (RMA'ing the board). I'm past my RMA from the retailer. Did you go through ASUS?

    Nice day to you lads

I have a question regarding this MOBO
    I'm ordering it right now with Corsair DIMM 4096MB DDR II 1066MHz TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 2x [ so 8192 MB ]
    Core 2 Quad 9550
    3x WD Velociraptor
    2x Radeon 4870 from Sapphire

PSU will be TAGAN 700W that with Rock pipe cables or whatever is that plug&shock technology called

From your point of view will i run intro problems ?
I'm just a mild OCer and the only thing that i will do is the FSB on that quad will go from 8.5 * 333 to 8.5 * 400

    Thanks

I'm scary for the raptors mate there are rumours that they could be issues with this board...secondly if you are only into a mild OC, why not opt for the 9450, will save ya big cash and it's only 200mhz less then the 9550 at the same FSB...and to compensate you could always go for 425FSB with the Q9450... and the money you save you can invest in ya ram... I don't own Corsairs but I can do tell that Gskill and Muskins work fab on this mobo...

I would start with one raptor there and if it all works out for ya buy another one or two... but I think it's overkill... eg the new terrabyte drives are pretty fast too... I love my new Samsung F1 1Tb drive...

    Just my 2 cents...

I've got 2 VR's and they worked just fine with the P5Q Deluxe until the board started acting up. (I'm getting a new board tomorrow)
They are noticeably faster than the F1 TB drive, the Samsung is a nice drive by all means but the access times aren't comparable to the VR's.

I have noticed with my board quiet a few times that when booting up it will display a green screwy looking bios flas screen like the normal one but relly weird looking right after the normal one for a second. Last night it zoomed in on the flash screen right fter the post screen so much that all I could see was the top of the A. has any one else noticed this??

Hay guise, thanks so much for the help, after seeing some other e8400s over 4Ghz, I thought that 3.915Ghz would be a decent shot for me. I got it stable for 8 hours on 1 core, and stopped the other at 10. Prime95 showed a damn hardware error, but I never think I'll push it for that long that hard, so I may leave it here, or adjust w/e ya'll think. Here's a huge screenshot. Also not noted I have the PL at 8 with the things below it enabled. I also have only the DRAM static read control disabled, rest auto. Cheers to psudeo-stability, but where to go from here. I definately don't need more speed, I just want stability at this point, WC3 was picky with my ram over 1100mhz so I'm good there too.

Leeghoofd, 1102 BIOS not working here... You say BIOS is fine, but i try it last night before 10 hours or so and this finished with no boot... When i restart after flashing, EZFlash come up and tell me the BIOS it corrupt and give me an option to flash to 0506. I did this and now i am with 0506 to try how it works because i buy my mobo with 060x and never used 05xx BIOS before... Now everything works fine, no need to flash to another till i wait for new working BIOS

Is there any real difference between the two ethernet ports - one is pci and the other pci-e (as they show in device manager and mb specs)? Do I get better performance if I use the pci-e based one (this is supposed to be the one closer to the pci slots, right?)?

I have p5q-e but I think the 2 ethernet chipsets are the same.

    Thanks!

Maybe tempted to purchase an Asus P5Q-Deluxe, anyone using the 300GB VelociRaptor or 150GB Raptors with this motherboard? The info is somewhat vague, some people saying they dont work, some people saying they do.

Just making sure no issues like the P5K-Premium fiasco.
    DieHard BIOS
    BIOS Never Die
The ASUS Diehard BIOS consists of two BIOS chips, a main BIOS and a backup BIOS.
The ASUS Diehard BIOS can restore corrupted main BIOS data from the backup BIOS automatically.
The technology saves users the hassle of recovering the BIOS file or buying a replacement BIOS chip.
Sounds excellent, also been told the motherboard has socketed bios chips? So can swap them over if you wished to update both to latest bios?

I might just purchase an Asus motherboard once more, last one was an A8N-Sli Premium lol.
