You should never have to pull the battery after a failed overclock, even if except under absolute worst conditions, except to replace it. The thing many people seem to not do is to UNPLUG the mains before clearing cmos. Turn off the PSU, if you have a rocker switch (only old or crappy psu's don't have one), then unplug its cord, then hit the power button to try to power the computer on (this can release extra stored current; you do NOT have to do this though), and then clear the cmos. This should get you back up and running.
