    q9450 + asus maximus extreme

Hy , i have an isue with asus maximus extreme,

    Q9450(thermalight ifx-14), asus maximus extreme (bios 1102), corsair 2x2giga 1600mhz (CM3X2g1600c9DHX).

1 i whanted to test how much can u OC without any voltage , so i manualy put all voltages on default , you can see may settings on bios :

    -Ai overclock tune = manual
    -OC mem lev up= auto
    -cpu ratio set= 8.0
    -FSB frecv= 333
    -pci frecv= 100

    -ddram frecv = ddr1333mhz
    -ddram command rate = 1t
    -ddram timing control= manual
    -cash# latency = 9
    -ras# to cas# latency =9
    -ras# precharge = 9
    -ras# active time=24
    -ras# to ras# delay = 4
-row refresh cycle time = 60
    -write ricovery time = 9
    -read to precharge time =6
-read to write delay (s/d)= 9
-write to read delay (s)= 5
-write to read delay (d)= 6
-read to read delay (s)= 4
    -read to read delay(d)=7
    -write to write delay (s)=4
    -write to write delay (d)=7

-ddram static read control = auto
    -dram dynamic write control=auto

i know this 2 u have to disable them , but in my configuration if i set them on disable i cant enter in windows ( sistem freeze before enter windows)

    -Ai clock twister = strong
-ai clock skew for chanel A = auto
-ai clock skew for chanel B = auto
    -Ai transaction booster = enable
    -Boost level=2

    -Cpu voltage 1.24375v
    -cpu ppl voltage = 1.52v
    -north bridge voltage= 1.41v
    -ddram voltage = 1.8v
    -Fsb termination voltage= 1.24v
    -south bridge = 1.09v
    -Loadline calibration = enable
    -Cpu gtl reference= x63
-north bridge gtl reference = x67
    -ddr3 chanel A+B REF voltage = auto
    -ddr3 controller REF voltage = ddr3_REF
    -sb 1.5 voltage = auto

So with this settings (the ram secont and 3-th set of timings are a little high in comparation to default ones because i was aiming and oc from 1600 to 1800mhz) , and i was surprised to se that sistem is stable at 400fsb , 1600mhz for ram , all tests fine , temperatures where same at 333fsb.

My next step was to aim for 1800mhz for ram , i modifie voltages and wasnt able to enter windows:

    -Cpu voltage= 1.43125v
    -cpu ppl voltage= 1.5v
    -ddram voltage=2.06v (tryed 1.82 , 1.84 . ....2..06v)
    -FSB termination volt= 1.54
    -south bridge=auto

Then was i try boot with the default manual set settings at 425fsb@1700mhz for ram , sistem boot but in 3dmark2006 failed ; again set the oc voltages , and i couldnt get it stable.

So i thought my ddram3 is a sssssssshhhhhtttttty ram dont work stable upper then 1600mhz.

I try change : DDRAM FRECV = DDR3_1066 mhz , so when in i cand oc fsb high the 425 without passing the 1600mhz ddram barier.

The problem is when i modifie ddr3_1333 to ddr3_1066 (with all timings set to manual) all my timing are lowered by bios automaticaly (all of them)

"***" is that and again sistem wont enter windows , i try set them manualy but they dont work .

So now im stuck ,any hlp plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, sugestions etc.

Ps: sry for my bad english.

since then i learned that fsb termination volt should not passs 1.45 (now i use 1.42v )

i manage to disable ddram static read control and dram dynamic write control

i changed ram slots from the blue into white ones

changed -ddram command rate = 2t and only 9-9-9-24 are set on manual , the rest i let them on auto

    but no RESULT

plz can u hlp me with voltages for 400 fsb (i get blue screens after some time of running)
and for fsb450 (in 3dmark 2006 works but the textures are wrong ; or when windows boots some programs dont work , like nvidia video driver , bitdefender 2008 , logitech setpoint II etc)

    cpu volt = ?
    cpu ppl = ?
    NB = ?
    fsb termination volt = ?
    SB = ?

now i cant even run an stabiliti test at fsb 400 (like memtest or orthos) without having eror or geting blue screens

    PLZ

    -Cpu voltage = ?
    -cpu ppl voltage = ?
    -north bridge voltage= ?
    -ddram voltage = ?
    -Fsb termination voltage= ?
    -south bridge = ?
    -sb 1.5 voltage = auto

what voltages shall i try specialy for fsb 400 im interested to make it stable

U have to raise NB voltage more, try 1,52 and raise from that.

y , i used this setting at 400fsb and 450 fsb with no results

    -Cpu voltage = 1.35
    -cpu ppl voltage = 1.52
    -north bridge voltage= 1.61
    -ddram voltage = 1.8 , tryed 1.86 for fsb 400 and 1.92 for fsb 450
    -Fsb termination voltage= 1.42
    -south bridge = 1.100
    -sb 1.5 voltage = auto

    but no results

I had bad experiances with my q9450, I couldnt get over 375 fsb stable with that bopard and cpu combo, SO I gave up after a month , and pulled the chip out, I am now running my GO q6600 @ 3.6 and ,memory @ 1800mhz.

I belive the 45nm quads to have issues with most boards, but I could be wrong.

i dont think its the q9450 , with stok voltage he boots at 400 and it runs perfectly (exept i get blue screens after a few hours , or i cant memtest or orthon ), and at 450 with stock voltage boots (but in 3dmark the textures are wrong)

i runed 1t for DDRAM @1800 1.92v , and some programs were runing bad start up (bitdefender, nvidia video driver , logitech) , when i changed to 2t they runed fine exept with that bug at 3dmark , i could make performance tests ok but the stability test i couldnt , dono if its RAM , CPU , or mobo voltages

aaaa and the funny thing is , when i intaled 1 the sistem , Asus maximus extreme had original bios 501 or something , and at 1 booot i got the screen please update bios unknown Cpu

WWWWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF , the asus site sais 45nm certificate boart )))

i dont i ever buy an asus board ever , i go for dfi , gigabyte or even test xfx or bgf boards

my early boar was DFI LP ultra-d soked 939 , i moded to sli-d , and it was a good board with opteron 165 @1800mhz i got an oc stable 2 years @2700mhz with not ever 0.00001V added all default voltages and RAM geil oc fron 400mhz @450mhz

im thinking to trow this cpu and start use the onld one was better , good that i havent sold him :P:P:P#

and wtf the sata-2 on that dfi was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster then the sata-2 on asus maximus xtreme (tested with hdtach , sandra , everest etc) about 10-20% faster

with dfi my cpu start-up with half of line , now with asus maximus extreme it star-up after about 6-7 line of windows

and the LAN start up after about 2 min after windows start up

A friend sais that i should set PCI@33.33 but asus maximus extreme doesnt have any setting like that in bios

Auto settings are there to let the rig post, most of them are overvolting etc... OC'ing isn't what it used to be just upping FSB, Upping Vcore and dropping LDT... there's more to it and most issues are with ram lately and overvolting by the user on these 45nm CPU's...

And that the board is 45nm certified means it will support 45nm but for some models it requires a bios update... sigh

Also the Asus board has way more features to load then the DFI, comparing start up times... that's pretty hilarious to me... you cannot compare boards by counting the sweeps... it could even be ya windows install that is crappy due to a buggy program... and for ya internet that's probably due to your antivirus program blocking any internet action before it is correctly operational...

Sorry to say but think the end user is more to blame here due to an abundancy of settings.... where many of us (me included) get pretty lost in sometimes...

Hope you find more luck with Gigabyte or co...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

man i can compare them , i use same win , same bitdefender 2008 , same setting on bouth sistems , and belive me i can feel the diference

i only changed mobo + proc + ram , the rest are same

With this default settings i try to rise fsb and surprised sistem boot @400fsb and even @450fsb (but not stable some programs like nvidia driver , bitdefender 2008 , logitech driver worked bad)

I try test more at 425 , the probrams worked fine at start-up pc , but in 3dmark2006 textures were wrong

So go lower @400fsb (here all worked fine but after 1 hour maibe 2 i get blue screens , i even get blue screens @ 333fsb but rare)

    So i continued test @400fsb , i use higher voltages :

-Cpu voltage 1.24375v ( with default and i got blue screen after 1 hour temp@71*c , and then 1.35v but again cpu freezed after about 15 min , temperatures rised to 77*c)
    -cpu ppl voltage = 1.60v
    -north bridge voltage= 1.40v
    -ddram voltage = 1.84v
    -Fsb termination voltage= 1.40v
    -south bridge = 1.100v

I tought maibe is a ddram problem so i lower DDram from 1333 to 1.066 and again rise fsb to 400-410 , same result blue screen

    and again im stuck

plz any other sugestions i just whant to make it stable arount 400 fsb

Just disable ram booster for once (or put on auto),your clock twister at AUTO, disable load line calibration ( so set higher vcore ) and test again...and lap that CPU your ihs is prolly so concave or convex... with that cooler your temps shouldn't be in 70°c even at 3.8Ghz....you must feel that something is not correct there

And 1.4FSB term is a no no on 45nm CPU's and surely isn't needed at 400FSB

time do start from zero and do ya homework first...

so , about that clock teister and loadline calibration , i tested on auto all no result

about 1.4 fsb term max its 1.45v so i thot its ok with this

It's time to do some researching how to OC a 45NM CPU...more voltage isn't always better surely with a Yorkfield... just start from zero instead of all the changes you made and reset that bios, then go one step at a time... I don't have my board anymore but it still humms along nicely at 450FSB with 2Gb of ram... think NB was over 1.5 on my board to be stable...

Adress first ya temp issues then go and play with the OC options...

i dont think temperatures arount 70*C are high with all voltages high and arount 400-450 fsb
    i think its resonable temperature

ok I have had my maximus for about 9 months and like it alot, you just need to get used to the settings, you cant expect to get a extreme edition board and now your gonna get crazy clocks and wr scores, you have to know wtf your doing it takes time, and patience. But Ima help you out, this is what I use and you should post.

-Cpu voltage = 1.45v set it high and work your way down.
-cpu ppl voltage = 1.60v again set it high and work your way down
-north bridge voltage= I always run at least 1.55v on the nb these extreme nb's have to deal with alot of stress, and they are mad volt hungry
    -ddram voltage = 1.9-1.94v
    -Fsb termination voltage=1.49v
    -south bridge = 1.150
    -sb 1.5 voltage = 1.60v

try that and see what happens, also have you tryed booting at default settings? if it posts at default settings then theres something you are over looking or doing wrong.

the default setttings are the only way my sistem works stable (but even like this i got some blue screens sometimes) , all AUTO except i set dram to 1333 , if its AUto my ram works @1066

i tried to set the ddram to 1800 , and that way sistem didnt boot
when i set it to 1600mhz it worked fine , i run prim95 for 1 hour , then after about 1 hour later when i was chating on mess again blue screen , it was a strange this i noticed the
    mutiplyer changed to 7.0 , dono exact what was the fsb , but procesor was @2800 mhz and his core volt was "1.38v" ;

1.38v @2800mhz seems a little big voltage dono why on AUTO took this value

i tought i just got a ty ram , i lower ram @1066mhz and rised fsb @410 , but again blue screen in prime 95 after 50 min i think
