Lol first thing I did when moving from XP x64 to Vista 64 was disable all the themed interfaces and animated crap. I still am not sure if it was worth it for DX10, because in all other departments, vista has been a pile of crap. My sound card driver is very buggy in vista x64 (volume resets to zero on system startup). The folder view settings not saving is extremely annoying. PLParEQ no longer works. Driver signing is the biggest PITA I have ever encountered. I use two unsigned drivers, and I had to go through the nasty test signing process, then edit out the desktop watermark from user32mui.dll. UT3 crashes if I minimize it. The list goes on and on compared to XP x64, which worked perfectly. I am running Vista x64 Ultimate SP1 with all latest critical updates. Oh, and lets not forget that in test sign mode, you can't play back any DRMed HD content.
In fact the only reason I downgraded to Vista was so I would be able to use dual 4870X2s.
EDIT:
Oh, and Vista is only marginally faster at launching applications than XP. However, after they are launched, they perform worse in Vista x64 than they do in XP x64. I have 8GB of RAM running at DDR2 1100.
