what are safe voltages for this card
and where are points to test with DMM, if someone has a pic showing this
thanks

Has anyone got the AMD tool to work with crossfire, i just get "set clocks failed!"
works fine with crossfire disabled, but after you have set your clocks crossfire is greyed out so then cant be turned on

I am running vista 32bit with 3gb of ram, and also I have the 8.7 beta drivers running, they give a good boost, they gave me around 400 points, I have ran vantage a few times with the beta drivers, and I always got different score, sometimes 10428, sometimes 10525 and I even got 10638 or something, it seems like the driver is not really optimized that much, but it is still better than the old driver.

has anyone tried the DNA 8.7b drivers?
hope future driver's improve this card, it has alot of potential

today i had a quick play with new HIS 4870. I changed fan value so it kicks in a little latter as was a bit loud at IDLE.
Here quick test straight at 840/1100 out the box

How can change fan speed and overclock over 790/1100? If i set fan with CCC profile then AMD GPU toold override it!

try running furmark to test stability instead of atitool.... you know your clocks are stable if it can run furmark.... also enjoy having your ddr5 @ 1100 as it wont last....
Since you have experienced degrading GDDR5, what would you recommend as a safe and stable 24/7 usage on the ram for an overclock?

Have two questions about the HD4870, could anyone answer them please
× Does the HD4870 also have some sort of 2D/IDLE Power-saving mode?
× Which brand should i buy? HIS, MSI-OC or Sapphire?

Does every brand of HD4870 have the same cooler and voltage? I am considering the upcoming Asus one, but I was wondering how the ones already on the market differ, since they vary in price.

1100mh on ram crashes in furmark almost 20 seconds in. I found 1065-75 memo and 830 core is my max on stock voltages, while still staying nice and cool@ 55C load.
If i could find my stupid red lead for my DMM i could put those on the points that Wizzard had pointed out to test voltage. I want to play with volts in RBE, but need to find that darn fangled lead..ohwell maybe this weekend after i tear through my closet.
does RBE even adjust the voltages well? or would a pencil be needed

Thanks for sharing. To play safe I think I would use 820/1050 as it seems most cards should be able to do this with ease at 31%+ fan speed. I hope at those speeds it demolishes my currently overclocked 8800 Ultra.

I was running at 1050 and i even went down to 1000, the ramdacs are rated for 4 ghz only by spec. I will be trying the MVDDC and MVDDQ pencil voltmods for the ram as soo as I confirm that my voltmod was successful (dont have the water loop together yet so I can't plug the volt modded card in to the board)
@ strangelife, there is no 4870 pencil voltmod, only soldering. bios does not adjust voltage (tested with multimeter)

i thought i read on ocforums of a pencil mod for the memory at least..did not get enough sleep
so changing values in bios for voltage has no effect? well that bums me out.
I have a iron, might get confident with it soon.

yes there is a pencil mem mod, i will be testing that one sometime in the next week
here are the pics from my voltmod (quoted from voltod thread) there is very little danger involved in this mod compared to other videocard voltmods because the contact for VDDC is isolated away from others, the only issue is that the contack is VERY small and thus it is hard to get a sufficient bead of solder attached securely.

yeah 1000 mhz is fine for me, no artifcats. I have found that at stock a lower mem clock allows for higher core clock.
Like this:
-I can boot and run vantage at 865/1100
-I can boot and run vantage at 875/1050
-I cannot boot and run vatage at 875/1100, it just doesnt stay stable and "display driver has stopped responding" comes up
@ NKD thanks for letting me know, this explains why you have a higher vantage score than me even though i am at higher GFX and CPU clocks.
It's the operating system, stupid.

on another note, i just got shipped notification on my second 4870from RMA
great, thanks for the reply. 820/1000 seems ok to shoot for.

Hi.
I can just about manage 800/1050 here, infact 790/1050 seems my best bet. Should I be able to get it higher with more voltage?
I dont want to break it!!!
been away for a couple of days... i would suggest that 4870 owners run there cards gddr5 at 1040mhz... i know for certain that these speeds are fine as both of my cards respond indentically....
my cards are from HIS...
we should be able to unlock the cores with the new oc bios from diamond, i'm just looking forward to this now....
@willhub... lower your gddr5 to 1000 and try to oc your core again....
@snipedog... i would love to know how high your clocks will go with FurMark...
