    (Waiting foir SB750 boards aswell)
Why buy a CPU you have no board for? The CPU may drop in price by the time the boards come out...

It's part of a brand new build. The mobo (along with the Blu-Ray drive) is the last component i'm waiting for.

It's hardly like it's going to drop £20-30 over the next 2 weeks, and i'm certainly not gonna worry about a couple of quid. ; )

    oooh, exciting.

Don't worry,it's not gonna drop 20 quids .Heck,it can even go up if the SB750 OCing of the new 9950 proves to be better than what we've seen with other motherboards,so with increased demand for the chips and mobos price can go up because of the high demand (i'm partially joking btw )

Be sure to update us when you get it installed, I'm curious too!

I have a few tips for you if your interested, since I'm running a similar setup.

    1) Coming from the X2 it's easy to go crazy with voltages on Phenoms... Just be aware that it's not always the best option, and many times you'll get better/more stable results at lower v's. Phenoms seem to be more sensitive to electro-migration.

    2) The v1.5 bios for the K9A2 is the best release version so far for Phenom, even though it doesn't have a NB Multi option it's pretty easy to OC the HT Ref clock to 210~220 (2100~2200 IMC) which has been pretty close to the stability limit on all 3 of my Phenoms.

    3) My best chip (9850) is actually only truely stable @ 2.835 Ghz. Hopefully the 9950 will be better, but if your looking for true stability don't get sucked into all the 3.5 stuff you see some people posting...

    Good Luck and Have Fun!!
If you like to OC these chips are a blast to play with...
Yes overclocking is fun Im going to need some tips for bios settings as I heard they are very different from X2 settings

It is 2x faster in all my games with AA and AF cranked. Without AA and AF its over 2x faster than my old 2900XT. Since you have a 3.5Ghz X2, you'll see your biggest gains from a GPU upgrade. It will definitely tide you over until you can get your hands on an SB750 mobo.
I had the money for the card but I felt my cpu would bottleneck......so Id take the cpu upgrade then the GC upgrade. No matter what I would go with the 4870X2 so this cpu would hinder me even more. In my eyes the most logical upgrade at this point would be cpu.

On a side note I ordered it yesterday and it shipped today from NJ and I live in NY so it should get here quick.

You should be able to do so

If not, then Im afraid you might want to get a SB750 board, but then it should be like guaranteed to get 3Ghz

But atm it's pretty confusing that like some motherboards people had loads of problems with that a few dont have any problems and seem to OC their Phenoms like hell on it. So yeah, it's getting more some sort of a lottery now. But with SB750 boards you should be pretty safe.

But just try it out first on your current board. If you dont have problems at all it's already cool.

I would suggest Windows XP 32 bit Phenom requires much more voltage and not so great stability wise OC in 64 bit OS from my experience

My 9950 just arrived today !

Gonna test it against my 9850.
    2.8GHz rockstable
    2.9Ghz 95% stable
    on DFI DK M2RS

I dont expect that the 9950 performs much better on that board. Have to wait for the SB750 boards though.
    Will see how it performs.

I'm see this a last 65nm Chip form AMD.

they really are taking there time with those 45nm chips.

on 64 bit I get more lock ups or unless buzzes, more often then a BSOD.

I've got a clock interrupt one, non executable memory, & a paging file error. some how it could get access to it.

the last one I forget what is was though.

maybe the 45nm's will come out right after the 4870 x2.

im not trying to jump on the 'i knew it' bandwagon, but i was very suspicious when this part was announced, i suspected that this was just a cherry picked 9850BE, that has the wattage upped a little, ie 140w.

we all know that the phenoms genaraly top out at 2.9 gig/3 gig, no matter what voltage you give them, my 9850BE is running 3 gig (15 x 200) @1.35 Vcore.

i consider myself to be very lucky, as most peeps get 2.8 gig, i really dont think that these chips will do any better (maybe 100mhz) without the SB750 in place.

but i may be wrong, and really hope i am, and we may see a 'batch' of 9950's that hit 3.2 gig with ease,

they know once they get the 45 nm process nailed, this will all be T'bred's A and B's as far as they are concerned

its got to be the SB problem because i have never know before for me to be able to get into windows with max bootable speed on stock volts & then need such a huge hike in volts to get it stable.

now that is surprising, the no way part that is.

i could allways get into windows at 3 gig, even with bios v12 on the AX78, but it would not be stable. now after updating to bios v13, it sits stable at 3 gig.

ohhh dear im getting angry now, lol

i would be so pi**ed off at this if i had grabbed one, i would expect a little more than that, maybe 3.1/3.2 gig stable.

maybe you just need to 'tweak' more, or a fresh instal of XP, just to see how it clocks

agreed also, i was sitting at 2.8 gig for a long time, until i got 3 gig stable recently, using unganged 1066 mhz mem.

for some reason, the rig seems to 'sit' very nicely with the Phenom at 3 gig, seems to be a sweetspot if you must, along with say 3.2 gig

i play crysis a lot, and noticed a 10 -15 fps boost using unganged mem and Phenom @ 3 gig.

i suppose the jury is still out till we get those SB750's

COME AMD, THERE ARE A TON OF RUBBLES BEING HELD BACK HERE WAITING FOR YOUR BOARDS TO APPEAR. LET US SPEND OUR CASH, DAMN YOU !!
