My best guess would be to keep the price as low as possible.

The stock cooler isn't bad when you turn up the fan speed after all.

The other AIB's are getting "black edition" type unlocked BIOS'es also supposedly so it won't just be Diamond - they just announced first

I was about to link to this article in view of some of the above comments

I think it is wrong to give the impression that the p45 pcie lanes @ x8 are adequate for present and future requirements as numerous articles have produced evidence to suggest that this is not the case. This is not only limited to the higher resolutions either but also to the tasks in hand. If you intend to do crossfire it is wise to get an x48/x38 board. i have yet to see any completed review to prove otherwise. If there is id love to see it .

Bah, I hate these panzy "OC" versions of GPU's. The least they can do is stick a 3rd party cooler on, let alone break CCC Overdrive clocks.

    oooh, exciting.

I agree, Nvidia really knows where it is at when it comes to overclocked version. They are far more common and tend to push the clocks way higher than ATI's conservative overclocks. The XFX XXX series comes to mind, as well as the EVGA SSC/FTW series of cards.

Aye. although ATI tend to release their GPU's much closer to the air cooled limit than nVidia do (all the way from the X1800XT, through the X1900XTX and 2900XT we're all very hot running cards).

    oooh, exciting.

BS, it's the Partners that do that. nVidia doesn't know any better than ATI.

Secondly, many Geforce manufacturing partners sell them factory-overclocked too high, causing instability in games (Assassin's Creed) with the user not aware of any overclock untill they clock the v-memory down. Not to mention nV's infamous 'turbotrick' in their 9600GT....

But i agree: i won't buy MSI because of this "OC" version (consequently also not their standard version) because as i said before my MSI "OC" HD3870 allows not by far the clocks that my Reference version Sapphire does.
I simply want an ATI reference version with the best parts as it is meant to be. Waiting for a Sapphire be available here.

agreed, the temps are high enough as it is, no reason to give a new card a premature death

same thoughts here, if they don't break the CCC barrier why even bother?

How are the RV770 when you overclock them??? I know the 38XX cards could be clocked a great deal on the GPU and mem side but you only gained a FPS or two in actual games. RV770 any better?

Because the stock cooler is great.. if paired with decent thermal paste and if they let the fan go faster than 30%.

cranking the fans to 100% to get the best cooling performance translate as a crappy stock cooler IMHO. Not all people can stand noisy systems.

Having survived X1900 XT cooler in the past, i think i can withstand most if not all stock GPU cooler of todays cards.

Just got mine(Sapphire) today @ 4pm dropped like a brick on my doorstep(sure UPS guy hates me).

First Impression's are good, the card is not to long, the hSF is nice and plenty of heat pipe, very similar to the 8800GTS in length and cooler design that it replaces. Could not careless about the women on the card though, ohwell wont see her much anyway=]

at first boot up, of course idle was 79C Did XML fan settings, and made 2 profiles for now. low idle was 42C @74F room temp. Load is in pic with ATITOOL arti scan. Set fan speed to 50% which is damn loud..it was no joke when people said this fan is loud, i tried 100%..but reminded me of Tornando fans or delta..so went back down to 50% for oc settings.no thanks. Made other profile for 2D @ 25%, near silent..good stuff..my system is loud enough

ok back to beers tonite, no work tommrow and i want to play some COD4!

BTW enjoy Shay Laren on my desktop

google her, trust me you wont be disappointed!

will try bios and ATI oc tool tommow..so far honestly this card runs fast enough in cod4 even at stock..no need to push it on her first day.

AMD surprise many people with 800 sp, many said "no it has 480sp" and it turned out to be false. I wouldnt be surprise if R700 has 2GB ...
(nordic hwardware was the only site suggest that it has 800sp since like May 15th or something)

but with all that 2GB GDDR5 i hope its not going to be over $550USD, $600 is my limit (499 just sounds a bit too good to be true, sure the lower the better heh) ... i was gonna drop that $650 on GTX 280 .. whew dodged that bullet, and bought a X38 DQ6 for R700 with PCI-E 2.0 slot (vs my old 680i )
