^this has been posted in another thread; it is as plain as the nose on your face, supporting my conclusion.

the only real benefit of x48 is at 2560 x 1600.

    Until i see proof of the difference (if any) between a 4870X2 running in a pci-e 1.1 16x slot and one running in a pci-e 2.0 16x slot, i just wait'n see.

    2x 4870x2's on 8x8x vs 16x16x pci-e 2.0, that'll be interesting to see the result.

this supposed "chipset bandwidth" is a crock according to the tweaktown results
if there is proof to the contrary i'd like to see it.

Just do it your self. Read your bandwith (Read/Latency) with Everest and change it by tweaking FSB/Ram/PL settings in your system and compare the FPS differences with the same game.

COD4 is a very good game to test. It's better then just looking for review chart's.

an expensive test, especially if someone else has already done it for me.
some people are saying that p45 chipset is better than x48.
if you have already compared p45 to x48 with some testing then feel free to share

I'm just saying... You can make it on your own system. You don't need anyone else (including my self) to run a test for you.

    Regarding that review....

    http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/14...nce/index.html

Can't you see the differences by just looking at 1920*1200 resolution?!... There's no need to mention higher resolutions such as 2560*1600 or an old standard like 1280*1024.

The more performance that your hardware (CPU/GPU) runs, the more difference you will see beetwin P45 vs X48, because of the chipset performance, the high FSB OC of P45 can't match X48 Latency.

This isn't new. Intel FSB technology reach it's limits and nowadays the price for reaching higher FSB levels you pay by drooping latency/bandwith. Has been this way, but with 600FSB being break easy if you look carefuly you can see where that comes from.

latency isn't showing its head in that review

""The results really do speak for themselves and it’s clear that there is a performance difference between a x16 / x16 configuration which the X48 offers, and the x8/x8 one on the P45.""

running one card P45 is fine I plan on running a 4870X2 which is plenty of card for me.

I don't see a difference between 30 fps vs 100 fps but I also use an old school 22" CRT mitsubishi monitor so I don't have many problems LCDs have.

Very doubtful. That would seriously eat into the 4870's niche, unless they priced it at $350-400...in which case you'd be better off buying two 4850s for Crossfire.

Thanks and I will have my fingers crossed they will. IMHO, it has better Value than using two cards. I like my current P43 with one 16X 2.0 slot and really don't want to use CF or SLI.

Yes, it's just another crappy teaser pic.. But it means they're already being tested for reviews.

The red fan is just mangy with the black. Black looked better.

How about white for an 'Intel Extreme' color scheme that matches their boards and stuff? Or would that be sacrilegious given the 'AMD' logo near the PCI-E interface..

    I hate waiting

Great to see that the card in the box ( which should be an ATI produced reference model ) is truly black. The new high end color scheme just earned ATI big points in my book. I think its a good idea to differentiate ones product line in appearance let alone performance. That will look awesome with an acrylic copper ek block on it

Well the release date is going to be August I think. The 1GB variant of the HD4870 is being released in the UK on the 31/07/08.
I can't wait to see how the HD4870X2 performs and more importantly if there is no microstutter or Crossfire related antisocial driver gremlins
