this tool is impressing me more more as I use it, if you go to high it will just stop the display and thats it no screwing anything up. I have gotten 882/1002 on all 4 of my gpu's with my 2Xhd3870's and thats pretty impressive for me, considering that before this I would only get 855 and 955

And then GPU-z has gone bonkers. This is after using the AMD tool for a bit. I didn't show it but it also says 750/900. Something may need to be reinstalled but I don't know what.
Looks like you are using the 8.7 betas which aren't supported by GPU-Z yet.

I can get 840/850 stable, but I am sticking with 840core and 1100 mem, it needs more voltage to go any higher, I get no artifacts in games, and it plays perfect for hours, and hasn't crashed on me once. so I have flashed the card at those speed with fan speed of 38% and it idles at 50c and under load the fan spins at around 40-42% and the temps actually stay in the 59-60c range, noice is not an issue for me because I have AC running in my room.

I get almost exactly the same clocks, 840/1100 is stable for hours of gameplay with no problems

Hmm, what kind of clocks are you guys getting on a 4850 with the stock voltages?

I swear mine was not stable at 700/1100 in CCC, but on second thought there is the chance my CPU was what was giving me crashes.

well, after days of testing and trying to get my core higher than my initial 790 with rbe and this amd tool i have had no success...
in fact... i havnt been able to run furmark at anything above 740 since the first evening in which i benched @ 790-1100 all night...

it turns out my ddr5 has degraded running at those speeds. my core actually has no problem running higher... my memory is now max'd out @1040...

this i can live with... phew i thought i was going to have to return these cards...

be carefull how high you run your ddr-5 for... you may just be damaging it...

I think to be safe I would run at 800/1000 for a few weeks to see how it handles. This seems to be very capable without damaging either core or memory, can run at stock volts and guaranteed, as well as keep noise and heat under control. If that did well I would then slowly raise up to 820/1050, 840/1100 etc. I think a sudden jump in clocks on both core and memory with no 24/7 real world testing is giving false excitement. The good thing is that summer is now upon us for most parts in the world, so if your card can keep up in this heat it should do well all year around from now on.

I had alot of trouble overclocking the ram even 25mhz with overdrive I would get screen flashes and my performance would drop. With this tool I haven't had any issue, I just need a volt mod to get over the 840/850 barrier.

The posts would be more informative if people would also mention which brand they have.

NKD and HALO what vgpu are you using for 840 core? I would really love to go higher than 725.

Can anyone confirm this/any tool will work with x64 Vista? Or do these utils all use kernel mode drivers?

Works fine with Vista x64, no need for me to run it as administrator even.

Has anyone got this blasted fan issue figured out when you use this tool? Or did I just overlook it somewhere. Every time I try to set a clock with it, my fan speed drops to either 5% or 0%. Not cool.

Furthermore, while I'm thinking about it, the 4870 only differs from the 4850 in terms of GDDR5 and a beefy cooler for the higher core speeds, right? Or is there something else inside the core?

But physically they are the same? If thats the case.. I may well invest in that larger cooler, slap my own fan on it and let the clocks rip. I'm liking this 850+ core stuff.

Which card should I get if I don't want to change Vcore, but will use CCC Overdrive, on stock cooler (don't mind setting fan higher), at 1680x1050 resolution? I'm interested in Crysis: Warhead, Fallout 3, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, STALKER Clear Skies and Farcry 2 for later this year. While the 4850 seems great, I'm worried that it won't be quite enough to hit smooth framerate since I'm seeing it takes a 4870 to run Crysis well on High at this resolution.

I'm probably not buying until August or September anyways, since thats when STALKER Clear Skies and The Witcher Enhanced Edition will be out.

It overrides the CCC fan profile, but not the bios one. If you flash the bios to stock speeds but with a better fan profile ( I used the transfer function between 45 and 90 ) and maybe some extra vcore once you start hitting the limit, this OC tool doesn't change the fan settings.

    Better voltage circuitry perhaps?

    Better voltage circuitry perhaps?
It don't take much to hit the limit on the 4850s. I get artifacts upwards of ~660. That is with the card running about 66c or so under load, so I don't think it's too terribly hot in that respect. I will end up flashing the bios here shortly to see what I can end up getting. What was the safe voltage range again for core and memory?

if you dl the msi bios, it is the only one that when you open shows a lookup table for fan control(as an option). select it in rbe , save the bios, flash it and this way you get a decent fan speed with rotation as fallows: 31% at 60, 42-70, 52-80degrees celcius. Its the best I can do so far. I alse used 1.158v for the stock 3d clocks in that bios and I can safely do 750core with 1.2v(dmm).

Consider yourself lucky then. For the hell of it, I tweaked the fan speeds to my liking, slapped a few heatsinks on the mosfets mentioned in page 18 of the 4800 series overclocking thread in the X-Overclocking subforum and I still can't even break 720 stable in RTHDRILB with the voltages at 1.2. Granted I can't quite confirm it's at 1.2 seeing as how my dmm needs a new battery, but I do notice that I can clock slightly higher and the temps correlate.

Right now it's running said demo at 714/1000 and finally seems stable. Fan is at 70% with the core temp at ~72c.

I don't see it being worth it at this point. Maybe I got a moot clocking card. Unless I'm drastically overlooking something here. The card is a Sapphire, if it means anything.
