I recently updated my bios (2704) and was excited to see support for the Q9450. My excitment turned to disappointment when I purchased the chip and put it in the computer. It was horribly unstable and would under clock the CPU on some bootups. RMA'ed the Q9450. Has anyone had success with the P5W DH Deluxe and Q9450?
No, I had the same problems. I was getting the same Core TEmp readings too. At stock setting, the Chips was unstable. I was able to boot up into windows, but it was crashing whenever i opened anything. I am not sure why ASUS would put out a bios claiming the revision can handle this chip when it can not. I am going to have to RMA my Q9450 or get a new board. Might be time.

Im getting these this week,,can some one please tell me the best settings these will run as im new to overclocking (kinda - never done memory OC before) -
And can i push this CPU any higher?!? =)Code:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-022-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=&name=G.Skill%204GB%20DDR2%20PQ%20PC2-8000C5%20(2x2GB)%20CAS5%20Dual%20Channel%20Kit%20(F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ)

Sorry if this has already been answered in an earlier post, but I couldn't find it.
I had a Q9300 in my first gen P5W DH deluxe and it occasionally doesn't show any video on bootup and doesn't get fixed until I put in my old Prescott chip (which boots fine) and re-install, or update, the bios.
I am currently using either rev 2004 or 2704 (I forget) and the computer had been working fine the last few weeks. Well... it was fine until I tried to change the FSB from 360? to 400. Now I can't get either my Q9300 or my X6800 to show any video.
The biggest issue I have right now is... I just installed 64bit Vista, so I can no longer use the Prescott unless I reinstall a 32bit OS.
While I own a floppy drive, it isn't connected and my only other system I have access to is a laptop without a floppy. Does anyone have any ideas for reinstalling the bios without switching back to a 32bit OS?
Edit: FIXED! Just took out the battery and switched the jumper to reset the CMOS settings. woot

You can update BIOS from floppy, USB flash disk (by manual not more then 8GB capacity and formatted to FAT) or from CD/DVD disk. To do it rename BIOS file to P5WDH.ROM and write on disk. Then start board and press Alf+F2 and system will check all medias for Bios file.
Another way is to make bootable CD/DVD with DOS, BIOS file and ASUS Flash writer.
So do most people run there raid 0 setup through the intel chip or the jmicron chip? Someone had told me the intel is a little faster, also the jmicron would only support two drives.

I have the same problem as shinnoobi trying to OC my 8400 on this board, it won't go near 400 FSB
I've bumped the volts and stuff up, but it's still not booting Windows. I really don't have much clue what I'm doing though - I have 4x1gb of
GEiL 6400 RAM which is apparently rated at 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v. Only when I try to use these settings it doesn't make any difference. I understand these timings might be a little 'tight' or whatever though. Can anyone tell me what settings I should be using to OC to 3.6ghz?
E8400 clocked to 3.6 ghz, 400mhz FSB, Radeon 4850.
4 memory modules in most cases can't work at 800MHz with FSB 400 in this board, try to set memory speed to lower mode and then try higher overclocking
still crashes even if I choose the slower memory speeds
I'm not sure how the memory timings relate to this thoguh - should I be using them or the SPD option?
I'm not that up for increasing voltages etc but would I basically have to if I wanted to go to a FSB of 400? I've tried upping some voltages on the board (I have version 1.02g) for the CPU, FSB and MCH (I just used the lowest manually selectable voltage I could) but it still crashes either on boot or just after logging into Windows.
Can anyone with an FSB of 400 please post their BIOS settings, and receive my eternal thanks, echoing throughout the ages?

I too am looking for advice on this motherboard, I have a q6600 currently running @3.4 378/9/1.5v But I can't sort my memory out I have 4x1gb Geil RAM It wont run properly at 756mhz only at 567mhz this ramm is rated for 800 I can't see why it wont run a it. I have tried voltages between 1.8 and 2.2 and at some it bsod's before windows others it boots fine but errors in prime 95 after a few minutes.

Nothing to do with what the ram is rated to run at, the northbridge controls the memory and it can't handle the speeds you're trying to run with a quad and 4x1 GiB. You need a make a decision between faster cpu or higher clocked memory, or find some middle ground in between and settle for that.

you think I should up the voltages for the FSB then?
I was running my RAM at 2.1v (the rated voltage) but pushed it up to 2.2v to try to get it stable.
I put my FSB to the lowest non-auto setting, which I think was 1.2v
Not enough then? Getting a 400mhz FSB using an E8400 definitely needs more power then?
I can't shake the feeling I'm doing something ridiculously stupid with the settings somewhere. Should I be using SPD for my RAM or inputting my own timings? Do you think that could be what it is? Everything runs great at 333mhz FSB![]()

wauw...... 300 pages of P5W owners..... i feel like i have gone to heaven.
I have DESPERATELY been trying to find a solution for a USB problem i have had for...... the last two years (yes, yes - long time, and yes, i am a bit embarrassed that i still did not solve it).
I am running the 2004 BIOS (did not really have a reason to upgrade, and to be honest, i am a bit of a noob, and unlucky on top of that, so i always tend to mess up things when i try to "improve" them).
I originally thought my trouble had to do with unstable power supply, but i recently upgraded my old 350watt to a 650wat corsair, and yet the problem keeps on haunting me.
I got a e6400 running at stock speed, and i got 4x512 kingstons.
And something is really, really weird with my USB ports.
Sometimes they work, and then they suddenly stops working. And it does not matter if i use the ports on the board, or the ones on the front of my case.
Keyboard and mouse works fine. no trouble at all. webcam works perfect, never a glitch.
But external harddisks (with own power supply), will suddenly disappear in the middle of reading/Writing.
USB memory sticks will sometimes work, and other times i will be told i have to format, or the media is corrupt. If i then switch the stick to another computer, it will work right away - without any trouble.
My Ipod is only very, very rarely able to update more than a few songs, before i am told it is corrupt, and i need to re-install the software on it (and when i try doing this - it fails, and i have to re-format on another computer). However, if i just disconnect the ipod, without trying to re-install the software, it will work fine, and even play the songs that managed to get transfered before my ports goes wonky.
Finally i noticed that the onboard wifi is also acting the same way. And i actually noticed that the wifi ALWAYS works when i switch on my computer. And as long as i can see the wifi is working..... all the other stuff i mentioned will work fine too.
Now - i think i have found out the wifi is actually working on the USB ports, so i guess it is not the WIFI to blame for all my trouble, but more the wifi that suffers under the same illness. So i normally end up using the wifi as an indicator to see if it pays off trying to upload some songs on my ipod or not.
I even tried using an external USB hub that was running with its own power supply (because i thought the connection broke down, because the ports were not able to pull enough juice) - but alas, my computer did not even recognize the hub, and i just ended up getting the "one of your USB devices have malfunctioned"/unkown USB device error.
So........ what the heck can make the USB ports work just fine the first 10 minutes i switch my computer on? and then stop working when it gets hot?
(sorry for the long explanation - but it is a rather strange problem, and a bit difficult to explain or troubleshoot, since it seems like it's coming and going.....)
________
forgot to add - i am running XP 32bit (not Vista).
And the USB ports seems to always work within the first 5 minutes when i switch my computer on. But if they stop working, and i do a restart, they do NOT start working again. Unless i let the computer power totally down, and stand for a few minutes, before i switch it back on.
