My question is, is for some reason the files i am keeping on the pc(game patches and stuff) corrupted. I installed call of duty from disk but the patches are on the hard drive in another partition. Also while audio seems perfect with music and videos. i am getting issues when playing games. company of hereos has a slight static crackling sound, not all the time and not loud. I installed the brand new X-fi beta drivers that i heard where really good for vista.
In case you get problems with stock BIOS settings you have a hardware problem. So try to find which device fails.
How did you install your nforce chipset drivers and which version? Did you install NAM or anything else besides the SATA drivers? You should not.
There is no way to get corruption on this board unless you have overclocked really bad or you have a defective hard disk.

I agree completely with this statement there is no corruption, also I got a few crc errors Kevin when I was installing Crysis with the updates and 1.2 was corrupted but then I downloaded the update again ran it from HD and it installed perfectly.. Sometimes those files lose integrity after lots of tranfers from disk to disk with suspect stability... Also I am running a QX9650 still 45nm but I cannot run the VTT at 1.2 or I freeze I definitely need more voltage than that and also the board seems to undervolt this by about .1 so you might want to take that into consideration.. So maybe in the bios set it to 1.3 to get the actual 1.2... Otherwise I am having great success on bios 1202 and although the half multipliers are ruined on this bios I don't care becauser I am running on the 10X multi and I am rocksolid perfect and no video issues or any other issues to speaK of....

No need to argue anymore about 15.17 drivers.
Nvidia removed them from their site. The problem is that Microsoft had the same drivers as an update for SATA. Fortunately in case we had only RAID devices (ie JBOD), these drivers would not install.

I had to reinstall the OS, not that i wanted to. i went to uninstall my sounds card drivers so i could reinstall older drivers. it crashed durring. went i went to reboot i got this brief bsod that said "a process or thread crucial to system operation" cant recall the rest. but the vista disk couldnt repair it. so i had to reinstall the os. i'm running on the pc now. and i did a few things different. not sure if it will help.

i installed the nvidia drivers from the asus disk. and only the sbus or whatever, the one the i couldnt uncheck, all else i unchecked.

i redownloaded x-fi drivers, older ones that i know worked. i was working with the new beta drivers which i heard great things about.

i installed 169.44 forceware VGA drivers. cause last i recall they worked just fine.

windows update i unchecked all nvidia downloaded and hide the updates. maybe that might help.

i dont thing the board is the issue. i think the software is. but time will tell. my old board was easy to figure out that it was to blame. this seems software related. anyone here have issue with vista sp1. i am wondering if i should install that. i am currently doing windows update.

let you all know how it goes with gaming in a hour or so.

You shouldnt be having so many problems. I'm dual booting vista 64 sp1 and Xp 64 and have never had any issues with the nvidia drivers on either OS. You shouldnt have to go through what your going through. I think you have some bad hardware somewhere.

i agree i shouldnt be having so many issues. i didnt have these issues with the last board. but i should add i didnt install the x-fi beta drivers with the last board. thats why i am trying without the beta x-fi drivers. i believe the bsods are related to the sound issues in games. i will know in a few mins.

    4.7G on air achieved

So far it can only run Super-PI, CPU-Z & Everest... If I wanna gain extra stability, fan has to be added in NB I guess...
Anyway will add fans later to complete 3dmark06 lolz...
I know it's not a good chip coz 1.58v is needed... but anyway, just like climbing mountains, I've been there and I am glad.

btw, still cannot beat the 10s-barrier at Super-PI 1M... kaka....

Nugzo, at idle it's around 35-37C and at load* it's around 51-55C.
Can't at a more accurate load* temp coz it's too short time (load*: only 10 sec of one SuperPI, may not be a full-load)

Further increase a click of either NB (1.52v) / cpuvtt (bios 1.44/everest 1.29) / vcore (bios 1.6875/cpu-z 1.584) / 1.2HT (bios 1.55) will result in BSOD (1 line of error in middle of screen) after vista start-up bar... kinda freaky lolz

Rest of my settings in bios:
    cpu pll: 1.62
    vdimm: 2.1
    sb: 1.55
    bridge core: 1.2
    cpu GTL: 30
    nb GTL: -30
    ddr GTL: 30

Any suggestion on my next step? Thanks.

Whats ambient temps where you are? 35-37 idle with 1.58v on air is awesome. U livin with teh eskimos? What HSF are u using and have u lapped anything? Those are temps seen with good water IMO. Good job!

Didn't lap anything yet... and the reading was taken under air-conditioning (maybe 20-23C). Will shoot more screenshots tonite (real temp on, everest on, etc).

I was once using super powerful fans for TRUE120 but I found that it has the same effect of cooling effect when running at either 3000rpm or 10000rpm... So I change to a cheap 12cm 1200rpm LED fan for testing TRUE's orientation (upward exhaust)...

It's kind of weird for such low temps, right? What I did recently is:

    1) rotate the TRUE to exhaust upwards since it's a Antec Nine Hundred (has a 20cm fan on top of the case)
    2) on TRUE change the 10000rpm fan to 1200rpm LED fan which also helps to extract air from NB's HR05IFX
    3) use OCZ Freeze between CPU-TRUE / NB-HR05IFX / SB-HR05IFX

All fans in Antec Nine Hundred are at their full speed.
    2 x 12cm front in-take
    1 x 20cm top out-take
    1 x 12cm back out-take

If the temp readings are not wrong, all I can think of is the "OCZ Freeze" which starts to take effect after 1-2 weeks installation. It's kinda scary if a TIM (OCZ Freeze) has such power after break-in time(?)........

Thanks Marios. It's 1401 now. Yes you reminded me. I changed to use this bios at 4.7G OC.
I just wanna prove that S2F is not that bad for overclocking especially when using new bios.
Kind of little contribution to this thread.

If my temperature readings are not wrong, my concern for further OC is not temperature but voltage (over 1.7v vcore). Is it dangerous?

    Thank you molotov.
I have the same Vcore problem like you do with my Q6700.
I wrote about it a few posts earlier, asking what could I do to use lower Vcore with high FSB.

Things got strange. All was going well untill this mourning. The sound issue came back with games. And then when i was useing windows update i got a bsod. Apon reboot i got a bios checksum error and i had to reinstall the bios cause it wouldnt boot. Then when i got to windows apperently the video card drivers where gone. Somehow uninstalled yet i didnt do it.

After i got back into windows i reinstalled the video card drivers. all seems well right now. but i'm sure that means very little.

i wonder if this has anything to do with the 1305 bios i installed when i got this new board. it might be possible that the board dont like the bios. i installed 1101 a hour ago. no issue thus far.

    Vcore setting, problem

    Hi there!

I've been reading this thread for a while and i've been looking for answers here and on the asus striker II Formula forum. Now I decided to pester you with one of my problems - hence why I registered

I've had two of these boards. One of them decided, on a saturday morning, to play dead. It wouldn't post, boot - hell, it wouldn't even make a noise. Nor did it use the crappy lcd poster to tell me how sorry it was.

.........anyway......I RMAed it. I got a new one within a week. At first everything was good. I tested the board with all the different stress-tests, mentests, etc. It worked! Although, that's not why I got the board. I got the board to be able to OC a tad here and there.

Anyway, I entered my OC settings from my previous board and to my surprise I found out that my vcore setting is not saved when leaving the bios. If I choose a manual vcore setting like 1.37 or whatever it will ALWAYS be on 1.12 vcore. No matter what. The only way for me to get it higher than 1.12 is to set it on auto which gets me a 1.28 or something vcore. I can't seem to climb higher than 3.15 ghz with my q6600 with that vcore and I'm now desperate for answers.

I've tried pretty much everything - i think.
I tried to alter all the cpu related settings to see if any of them were overriding my vcore setting. No luck there.
I've reflashed to pretty much all the different bios versions. No luck there.
I used the awdflash utility and used the commandlines to force a reprogramming of the bootblock, dmi reset and more. A tip from the asus forums. No luck there.
I've had my cmos battery out of the motherboard for about 2 hours. No luck there.
I might have forgotten something here. I don't know. Just....HELP ME

    My rig is as follows:

    BIOS 1305
    Q6600
    4x1gb Corsair pc8500
    Corsair CMPSU-650TXEU, 650Watt
    Asus STRIKERII/FORMULA
    Samsung SP F1 1TB, 32MB, SATAII
    WD Raptor 740ADFD, 74GB, SATA, 10K
    SLI - Inno3D GeForce 8800GTS 512
    Vista 64bit

Any help is appreciated - thanks in advance

    Hey Seba
I have an Striker II Extreme, if you want I can give you the boot logo (Gif file), maybe you can modifie the word "Extreme" for "Formula" and make it look even nice

Btw, is the BIOS wallpaper a new feature in 1401? or its been there since first BIOS release?
