Project[ BBB.V2 ]MM Duality
Was not sure what to call the project but ended up calling it “Big Black Booty”
The reason I ended up giving it this name is because it going to be big, its going to be black and it’s the ideal booty for a pirate of the internet ……..and as a few of you probably already know, there’s nothing better than a “Big Black Booty”.

I recently had a stroke of luck and won an EVGA 750i FTW motherboard on their forum (Jawd_bush), though that was a nearly 2 months ago and I still haven’t got the board yet.....

Recently I decided to disassemble the case and get it ready more the new motherboard.
The dismemberment of the case and parts went well, not spills or slip ups ..............or so I thought
I put the 680i back into an old Thandalf case with a HSF, which I planned on using until I got BBB back up and running.
However when I tried to boot the system up I got a Bios error telling me it couldn’t recognize the graphics card, tried another card and that was not recognized either
The only way I could get the system to boot up was with an old PCI graphics card........ at least I could access my files and surf the net.
When I tried to boot up the next day I was meet with the post error "5f", which I've yet to find a meaning to....... but I assume it means the board is dead, passed on ......F@*king snuffed it.
As the board would no longer boot I took it out and removed the chipset HSF for closer inspection.
It would appear that when I was removing the Northbridge bolts from the motherboard I had been careless with the Mini spanner and scratch a few of the PCB tracks between the NB and the nearby PCI-E slot..... I killed the board
I only had an old P4 board which didn’t take my sata drives so I went and bought a cheap motherboard, an EVGA 630i board with built in GPU...at least I can access the internet and watch por......I mean access my sata drives
So now starts the rebuild, "Big Black Booty Revisited"
The guts of the system are as follows:
CPU: Q6600
GFX: EVGA 8800 Ultra x2
Memory: G.Skill 4Gb PQ DDRII PC8000 x2
Motherboard: EVGA 750i FTW
The water cooling system will be 3 loops as follows:
1) Res (MCRES) ---> D5 ---> PA120.3 ---> D-Tek Fuzion V2 + quad plate ---> Res
2) Res (MCRES) ---> D5 ---> PA120.3 ---> EK-FC8800 ---> EK-FC8800 ---> Res
3) Res (MCRES) ---> D5 ---> PA 120.2 ---> NB ---> SB ---> Mosfet ---> Res
After emptying the case from the previous build I tried cleaning out the dust from the Rads, the things were clogged up solid!
Got most of the dust and fluff out with compressed air, though I had to give them a warm rinse under the shower to get them completely clean..... I'll have to use some kind of dust filters on the new build. :?
For the 3rd Rad I planned on placing it at the back of the case, initially I was going to get a sheet of metal and cut out a hole for the rad.
In the end I found a piece of perforated steel at B&Q which was perfect as it would support the rad as well as act as a radiator grill!......Gave it a quick spray of black and Bob's ya Uncle and Fanny's ya Aunt!
Having 3 loops meant I also had to find room for 3 pumps and 3 Reservoirs.
For pumps I went for D5's, mainly because I already had them .....
For the Reservoirs I went for Swiftechs MCRES-Micro Res.
The way I wanted to place the pumps meant that I hand to turn them so that their inputs were at the top, something that the pumps existing holders wouldn’t allow.
Took another trip down to B&Q and bought some L-brackets, they were the perfect fit but not the colour....out with the black spray again.
Once I had the pump brackets sorted I tried placing the 3 pumps between the front and rear rads, it's a tight fit... but we all like a tight fit right?
Tried the Micros and pumps in several places but this seemed the best layout I could come up with.
Once I was happy with res and pump placement I started on fitting some of the hose, I went for Masterkleer 7/16" Hose on D-TEK 1/2" barbs.
At the moment I've come to a grinding halt as I've yet to receive my 750i motherboard and can't continue without it.....
I've had a few bit's to do while I wait, one of them was find suitable grills for the front of the case.
I needed something that would keep out as much dust as possible, which was more important than looks.
I found some fan filters that had removable wire mesh fronts, only problem was that I could not find a UK supplier and had to buy them from America.
When the system is turned off the filters look more like tea strainers, but with the case on there not so bad.....
I ended up spraying all the fan filter black and removing the fan stickers.
I also lapped my Q6600, which I'm hoping is still ok....
That all for now, just a few bits more and I can finish the system.
