My thinking on this is that when you are one religion with strong beliefs and ways of living and you move into another country that is totally different you accept what is and what has always been in your dealings with others.
Like that expression:" When in Rome do as the Romans do"
If I were to move to Saudi Arabia I would expect to publically obey their laws and customs and so I think that when people in this case move to Scotland they should accept the local customs not try to change them.
This doesn't mean that Muslim people living in Scotland have to own dogs of their own, but rather to accept the fact that in that country the custom is that dogs are beloved pets.
Flexibility and understanding, without denying ones own beliefs is the answer.

yah, I don't really care if they like dogs or not. it's their choice to own one or not.

it's the fact that they expect everything to be changed to fit their previous viewpoint. no one is asking them to own and take care of a pet dog. it's a dog on a post card, if they don't want to display the card fine, just don't go make a public issue out of it and expect the entire community or country to bend to their terms.

as already said, if they want to live in an area, they need to adapt to it, instead of trying to change it to fit their previous area. adapt.

This is a weird thread.

Keeping dogs as pets (i.e. to have emotions for them and keep them in the house) is forbidden (haraam) in Islam. But keeping dogs around to protect property or for work/hunting is not.

Muslims don't hate dogs. Hell they don't hate pigs for that matter. They are just animals considered to be unclean.

Couple points to consider. The OP wasn't wrong because they were just reporting a news piece. The news piece had it wrong. Also, a tub of crap would definitely rank higher on the "Islam unclean scale" than a dog or even a pig. Unclean does not mean evil or inherently wrong, it means not clean, i.e. dirty or gross.

In Islam, the pig and dog are not to be harmed or hated because they are creatures made by Allah and should be respected and admired like any of Allah's creations. They're not evil or blasphemous, just dirty and gross and therefore not to be kept in close quarters with humans. No different than Judaism and the law against eating pigs. And actually there's good reason for that, because pigs pass on a fair number of disease and illness to humans.

True, it was the news article but that wasn't really the point. Not the origin but the subject of the mistake.

I knew that dogs and pigs are not evil, where did I state otherwise? I only said they are considerd unclean to their religion. If Muslims were to be outraged it would not have been because it where a gross picture, but because an aspect of their religion is disregarded.

and the comparison with jesus is just way off. for a muslim dogs are not more unclean than pigs. but how is it then that theres no muslim outrage about ham advertisement?

it's not like i don't respect islam. and i don't believe that they all are a bunch of whiners. but there is a very vocal group of idiots among them. and the muslim community isn't producing enough positive publicity to compensate for that. they way i see it, i am being way more tolerant than they are. and i'm getting tired of it. reminds me of jesse jackson. after a while you just don't listen anymore.
