    AMD dual socket thread

s7e9h3n's thread is getting long in the tooth, so I'm making my own. Everyone is of course welcome to post their experiences here too.

    My setup:
    Board: ASUS L1N64WS/B SLI
Cpu: AMD Opteron 2347 rev. BA
    Gpu: MSI 7900GTO
    Ram: Kingston DDR2 reg/ecc 800MHz - 2*2GB

First some pictures of my setup:
    Board:

As most people probably know, the WS/B board is a refurbished WS board, with a nice little paper sticker to differ it from the original Quadfather board. Classy
    Cpu:

Notice the "one letter too short" batch code. Hm, strange. Production sample?? With batch date 0734, it was made in the third week of august 2007. EDIT: got my second cpu
    Ram:

2*2GB modules with Elpida chips for CL 6 rating at 1,8v

    Gfx:

7900GTO @720/835MHz cooled by swiftec block.

It's going to be cooled by this:

plus a Zalman 9700 for the second CPU (until I get another cpu block + loop)

So far I have only tested that the board actually posts, wich it does. As you can see from pic of POST, the board has been shipped with the old 0401 BIOS wich is not at the ASUS site anymore. A BIOS flash is in order.

I will install my setup in the box later this week if I find some spare time. ATM I have it like this:

It seems the Opteron 2347's nb runs at 1400MHz at stock, that would make a NB FID of 7 by default, unlike its Phenom cousins that run their NB at 1800/2000MHz.

I will place my setup in my Lian Li 6070scand rev2 cabinet until I can get hold of a E-ATX cabinet, aiming for a CM Stacker I think. It will be tight, but using watercooling it will/have to fit.

Next upgrade(s) to the setup is:

    One more 2347. Secondhand [CHECK!]
one or two 9800GTX (price drops makes these a nice buy, secondhand of course as everyone must have the GTX280, selling their "old" 9800GTXs cheap, smartasses )
2*2gb of ram totalling 8gb wich is max for this board.
    CM Stacker

Longterm: 2* Istanbul with a total of 12 cores, wich seems to be as far as socket L1/F/1207 goes

    Thanks

I'm planning to have some fun, probably troubleshoot a lot, crunch, and make the local climate warmer

As for mounting, I'm gonna use my "gettho-modded-AMD-stock-cooler-hold-down-bar" to hold my Swiftec Apogee GTX in place. [it deserves a pic I think, coming up later ]

Edit:oh, almost forgot... ....and of course benches to show AMD dp imc powah
Edit2: If anyone knows of Opteron2347s in stock anywere, let me know

Hehe I'm at work ATM, and have kids to tend later tonight, so you can focus all your attension to looking for socket F parts

BTW If you look up hw.no, you'll find some WS boards for 1350 NOK in norwegian webshops, that is pretty cheap.

Bios shots I can upload tonight, as for sick oc's, don't get your hopes too high. The cpu is BA revision wich is even before B2 rev, and buggy as hell. cpu FID is 9,5, so it is dependant on high HTT clocking, wich is known to be hard on K10s. (Not to crash your hopes )

    Tyan Thunder h1000E

    15.000-ish

I used to use ASUS L1N64WS instead of Thunder h1000E but got rid of it. L1N64WS was giving out too much heat. After then, the temp was reduced by more than 20c.

MPM (without W) doesn't mean production sample, afaik. A production sample should have an early manufacturing week number, and there is no such "system" for the mpm's. I remember having seen CAAEC 0429MPM (older CAAEC's exist), and CCBWE 0604MPM as well. I've probably seen more, but I don't take much notice of them as I've heard they're not brilliant OC'ers. Notice that the SN starts with a 4 on all MPM's, but no other steppings

"Production samples" start with A (like AAAUB in your case)

I am building this system at the moment:

SuperMicro H8DAi-2 (rev.2.01 supports quad cores....)
    2x Opteron 2210 EE (45 Watt TDP)
    8GB Micron DDR2-667 registered

not sure on the gfx card yet....i'll post pics of the system when it is all assambled.

For Badnizze: Try googeling "gettho-modded-AMD-stock-cooler-hold-down-bar" again

Here on my Crosshair mobo Not beautiful, but it works. (I'm not one of them going for LEDS, cathodes and windowed case.)

Ok, on thursday I'll be assembling my setup, at last. First I have to make it ready for aftermarket cooling.

    This one have to go:

    Revealing these: 2*570SLI chips.

    And then it is ready

for one waterblock and one heatsink:

I just noticed the power connector placement on that asus board.

    Isn't that annoying?

Certainly not the best place to put it ,no, but we'll see, as long as I actually can fit teh powercord there I don't care.

Thanks, it will be interesting to see what is the best, you high frequency dual cores or my low frequency TLB errata ridden quad cores (I have a feeling your 8224's will smoke my 2347's in everything but the multithreaded apps that is optimized for >4 cores )

BTW: Anyone have any benchmarks they want me to test?

    I have a list myself:
Pov-ray, latest beta with multithreaded support.
    Wprime
    Kribibench
    Cinebench 10 x64
    P95
    Multiprime
    x264 HD Benchmark
    3dsmax
    3DMark06 (cpu test)
    PCMark05
