Well I went and bought a spot cool for my memory and a small quiet and powerfull fan for my chipset and a faster better fan for the side of my case and last night I was able to get my 9450 to run all night prime95 @ 450x 8 3.6Ghz with my voltage set to CPUv 1.35v actuall 1.28v and my nb set to +.3 and my fsb overvoltage set to +.1 so this is way better then what I was getting before. The voltages used are a hell of alot lower then what I had to use before so, I am confident that I can get 3.8Ghz easy and possibly 4Ghz now as well. I am at work right now so, I will see what happens tonight when I get home and mess with it some more. As soon as I bumped my FSB vltage up that +.1 everything became stable. I might be able to leave my nb voltage where it is and just bump my fsb term voltage a little to get stable at higher speeds it looks like. I'm gitty as a school girl :P .

    Hey Guys,

CPU Clock Skew & NB Clock Skew won't let me get into Windows if I set them anything other then "AUTO"!! What Gives?!? I had set them to 400ps & 100ps but after POST, I get stuck just before the Vista is supposed to launch - on a blank screen. Setting them back to AUTO lets me get into windows.

I don't even know if I should increase or decrease the value so I'm keeping them on AUTO until one of you guys can advice me on that.

I have everything else on lowest possible and running Prime95 Small FFT's as I write this. Will be testing settings as Priming fails and reporting back.

Let me know if there's any suggestion the CPU & NB Clock Skew.

    Thanks!

Good to hear, I just bought a Q9450, and have that same board (almost). I was able to hit 4.3 on my E8400 with +.1 NB, so I guess I have been very gentle on it

Ill be happy with 3.8. The guy I bought it from lapped it already, and says it gets to 3.6 with 1.2v, and Im not afraid to push 1.4 need be.

    Update.

Well, I'm having problem with my rig.
last night I ran Prime95 with small FFT's for 4 hours straight on 3.8Ghz without problems so I figured I'd take it for a test spin. I stopped Prime95 and loaded up AoC.. BAMM!
BSOD giving me a cryptic message saying something like this "your computer encountered a unrecoverable hardware fault". I rebooted and loaded up prime95 and set it to blend. the second I clicked the start button..

I've tried all sorts of settings I can think of, even tried vCore 1.4v, vNB 1.60, CPU PLL 1.65, FSBt 1.45 and memory at 2.2v to no avail. random BSOD or lockups. I don't like those volts so I won't even try to go higher. It's to risky and the payoff is to low cause at the best run I got about one hour prime blend before my machine either locked up or BSOD'ed with that unrecoverable error message.

So I've stepped down the volts and my speed. I'm at 3.7Ghz now and it looks good so far. Prime blend stable for two hours now and counting...

I just ran prime95 at 465 x 8 so, now I am typing on 470 x 8. I am going to try Prime again now.

Leave the clock skews on Auto. I went through them all in that board and only Auto and Normal were bootable.

Something strange is going on here.
I left Prime overnight running blend mode and when I got back today I had a fail on thread 4 after 6 hours run time, all others where working on their tenth hour. so I stopped prime, opened up firefox and my machine goes into a BSOD while I was typing in the address to this place.. "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval" wtf?

    What gives?
What can I do to remedy this?

So what is the average OC you can get with air to run 24/7? (using aftermarket cooling)

    Funky Temps

I'm getting some really funky temps with my Q9450 at stock

Check out cores #1 and #2 vs. #0 and #3. Everything is stock still, and I'm using a TRUE - temps are hideously high on #0 and #3 Core #1 is always nice and cool, even when all the others start to get toasty.

I'm new here, but correct me if I'm wrong. The Tj. Max is 105c in Core Temp, so the temps are 10c higher than they should be. RealTemp has Tj. Max at 95c and apparent reports more accurate temps.

+1 use realtemp instead of coretemp, plus you can also check for sticky sensors.

Well I have some sad news tonight people, my complex here "condos", got struck by lightning. We lost two good motherboards tonight people and alomost me . The damn hit went right through some cable lines buried right where it struck right in front of my face and zapped my fiances NIC on her / my old GA-P35-DQ6 and completely zapped my GA-EX38-DQ6 through the nic as well, both at once, . I'm on my work laptop right now I might get lucky though and get a nicer one back that would be sweet. Seriously though it ing hit right in front of my face. I was on the phone with my friend at the time out on my balcony.

Lucky fella Here's my advice, take your fiancee out and have a nice dinner with a nice bottle of wine. Think about it, you could have been lying in a cold cold place this moment.

Ahhhh that's awesome I did use RealTemp, but thought the temps were too good to be true. Looks like Core #1's sensor is a little sticky too.

I can't comment on the Q9450 specifically, but I have read a lot of reviews on the board because I was seriously considering one. It doesn't OC as well as the big boys, but new BIOSes are coming out thick and fast improving the situation. It's a little esoteric because MSI's auto overclocker thing is intertwined with the whole OCing process so you may have to leave it on to get a better clock... or turn it off - depends on the chip. Finally the BIOS is massive (10MB+) because it's gonna support the new BIOS standard once MS release an OS patch supporting it. The problem with a massive BIOS is you can't flash from floppy, and there's no built-in util supporting USB/CD like on Asus/Gigabyte boards. The only way to flash is to either get a bootable CD that works with BIOS flashing (pain in the ass) or use a bootable USB stick using the HP util.

It's a really nice board, but imho the issues don't outweigh the advantages. Why not go for the P5Q Deluxe?

Damn! I'm glad you confirmed that. I thought everyone on this planet except me was getting the 400ps & 100ps to boot in! It works fine on AUTO, so I'm leaving it at that.

I'm doing awesome right now @ 38000Mhz (475 X 8), priming without errors into couple hours now - followed all your settings, starting at the lowest possible, and I'm still on the lower range of volts - much room to play with!

This is really, really good! What really affected my stability was GTL's on the CPU. I'm at 0.67 on both and not having any stability issues thus far. Once I get it all situated & confirmed (stability), I'll post in my settings - waiting to see what happens.

Thanks a ton Cob, rdv & hellcamino!!

@ Isaac MM: I'm @ 3.8Ghz (475 X 8) completely on air (aftermarket cooler) AC7. At this point looking strong, solid & stable!!

No I'm just going to send the Motherboards back to Gigabyte it didn't zap anything else just the boards through the NIC. I tested all my stuff. We went out to a festival and some bars last night after.
