    Two questions :

    1) if you take the stick out that it boots with and put in your other one ... does it still boot ?
    2) can you boot with the one stick in any slot or does it need to be in one particular slot ?

    1. yea both sticks boot individually. both sticks work fine, no issues there.
    2. i've tried booting with the slot clostest to the cpu socket. and i'm pretty sure i booted it off the black slot as well.

sent asus tech support and email, a guy on the asus forums had the exact same issue. so i'm guessing its a bios problem.

is there any beta bios's floating around newer than the latest 0704.

Which BIOS is better, 0702 or official 0704?
Can you help me reach 500FSB for 24/7 stability?

So far I got 3 hours of Orthos Blend using these settings:

    CPU Ratio Setting: 6.0
FSB Strap to North Bridge: AUTO
    FSB Frequency: 500
    PCI-E Frequency: 100
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1002 (1:1)
DRAM CLK Skew on Channel A1: AUTO
DRAM CLK Skew on Channel A2: AUTO
DRAM CLK Skew on Channel B1: AUTO
DRAM CLK Skew on Channel B2: AUTO
    DRAM Timing Control: Manual

    1st Information :

    CAS# Latency: 5
    DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay: 5
    DRAM RAS# Precharge: 5
DRAM RAS# Activate to Precharge: 15

    CPU Voltage: 1.225v
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): 0.630
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): 0.630
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.5v
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.24v
    DRAM Voltage: 1.8v
    NB Voltage: 1.30v
    NB GTL Reference: 0.550
    SBridge Voltage: 1.20v
    PCIE SATA Voltage: 1.50v

    Load Line Calibration: ENABLED
    CPU Clock Skew : 400ps
    NB Clock Skew : 200ps

EDIT: CPU and RAM ruled out, CPU works even 3.6GHz with 1.225V, RAM 533MHz with 1.8V.
1.30V NB seems to be most stable, 1.28V and 1.32V was max 40min stable.
Now testing 8x500, same settings, which are the most stable for now.

@aiya , have you set your ram voltage manually ? I would still try all slots just to make sure they work .

@ Grimreaper , if you can get 3 hours blend you are pretty close to being stable . Have you run memtest to rule out ram or small fft to rule out cpu ? I am still on the 0704 alpha bios here and it's better than 0702 IMO .

    -snip-
thanks for the advice, i'll play around with it more later and report back. everythings set to auto in the bios. except the ram frequency is set to 1066mhz. because leaving it default set it to 800mhz.

edit: ok i manually set the vdimm and still no luck. and i can confirm that 1 stick of ram in each slot boots fine.

These are my settings for 4ghz with 8 x 500, I don't use LLC as the rigs are always under load ( 75% Folding at home ), I need 1.28Vcore for my E8500 under load so I need to set 1.325 in bios to get there... I estimate 1.375-1.4 for 1.33 4ghz operations...if ya like LLC enable it...

    hope it works...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

What's the story of memtest being buggy with 2GB sticks ? Memtest for windows ?

In fact , my mem @ 1128MHz with 5-5-5-15 and trfc=55 I get no errors with memtest86+, but in windows with memtest (from hcidesign) I get some errors !!! few but some ...

Any idea what's going on ?

@Cob: Awesome Job! What kind of volts are you giving in BIOS? I'm having stability issues past 3.7Ghz (462x8)

@Lee: I'm Prime95 Stable @ 3.6GHz (450x8) with the following settings - but I'm getting instability @ 3.7Ghz (462X8) ... can you recommend what should I start upping or changing in BIOS to get stability?

    CPU Ratio Setting: 8.0
FSB Strap to North Bridge: AUTO
    FSB Frequency: 450
    PCI-E Frequency: 101
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-901 (1:1)

    CAS# Latency: 5
    DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay: 5
    DRAM RAS# Precharge: 5
DRAM RAS# Activate to Precharge: 18
    RAS# to RAS# Delay : AUTO
    Row Refresh Cycle Time: AUTO
    Write Recovery Time: AUTO
    Read to Precharge Time: AUTO

    DRAM Static Read Control: DISABLED
    DRAM Read Training: AUTO
    MEM. OC Charger: AUTO
    AI Clock Twister: AUTO
    AI Transaction Booster: AUTO
    Common Performance Level [13]

    CPU Voltage: 1.325v
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): AUTO
CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): AUTO
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.5v
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.28v
    DRAM Voltage: 1.96v
    NB Voltage: 1.20v
    NB GTL Reference: AUTO
    SBridge Voltage: 1.10v
    PCIE SATA Voltage: 1.50v

    Load Line Calibration: ENABLED
    CPU Clock Skew : AUTO
    NB Clock Skew : AUTO

Also ... I'm hovering around 66 - 70 degress on 100% load during Prime95 or OCCT ... anyway to lower the temperatures adjusting anything in BIOS?

Try upping the PLL. Might need some more vcore too.

What's safe (or max) values to stay 'under' for vCore, PLL, FSB & NB voltages?

They're up for discussion, but personally I'd consider -

    vCore - 1.425v under load
    PLL - 1.6v
    FSB - 1.425v
NB - Doesn't really matter tbh. Might get too warm at high voltage tho.

You also have to remember that the board probably overvolts, so what you set in BIOS is probably actually more in Windows (apart from vCore ofcourse).

Are these three the primary volts that affect stability? I guess the reason I'm asking is - I want to determine in what 'sequence' I should start upping volts in order to achieve stability at a higher overclock.

I do have a 40mm Fan strapped to the North Bridge.

I found that PLL made the difference between 450mhz and 470mhz. After that I had to start fiddling with FSB Term and NB.

But every chip and every board is different, and what is good for one persons set-up may be useless for another persons set-up.

    Agreed.

I'll just proceed with vCore and then go with PLL, FSB & NB and see how I make out.

    Thanks!

    hi guys,

I'm considering getting this board, but i'll also be looking for a 4GB kit. Choice in the UK is a little limited compared to the USA, will this one be ok?

If not, on the same site, can anyone recommend which set would be best for this board?

    This kit is much loved.

Tho, as with most things, it can be found much cheaper elsewhere.

Then by what I'm understanding, in this motherboard, when i set an x value in bios, in the windows that value will be greater than x?
Example...if i set 2.10v to memorys, in the windows this value will rise to 2.18??? apart from vCore, because in the windows the voltage it's lower??
    thanks guys

Ok so I've got some more weirdness. The thing is 2 hour OCCT ram test stable @ 400FSB with a 6 multi. (for 2.4GHz) at 4-4-4-12-2T timings. It is not stable at 5-5-5-18, 5-5-5-15, or 4-4-4-12 @ 400MHz 1:1 @ 8 multi. It will run 800MHz fine with a 5:6 ratio @ 2.66GHz. I'm really not liking how picky these corsair sticks are. Considering there are 2 bad sticks and I ordered 2 sets and they are both from the same lot I may just return both of them and then get something else from newegg. One more note before I do some more reading. Before I left for work this morning, I set everything to auto, (timings, voltages, etc)> and set the FSB at 400MHz and the ram at 800 MHz, and it appeared to be stable (OCCT had run for more than 30 mins), ususally it would crash before that if it were not stable. I will have to make sure when I get home, but it just seems like these sticks of ram are going to require EXACTLY the right settings, and this is only for a small OC. Going to talk to a newegg customer care rep now....Lee I will also try your recommended settings when I get home tonight too.
