Clocks don't matter so much as the voltage.

Intel's atom is a terrible chip.

Wrong talking about RV670, frequency is almost the only thing that affects power consumption. And looking at the idle vs load voltages I'd bet RV770 is the same. I will confirm it when I get mine.

Well.. Mine too sits at 500mhz, which is high for 2d... Also fan isn't even working hard. Seems similar to my 3870 that I had... Fan set to be silent, card bakes... But no stability problems... I just used riva Tuner on my 3870 to turn up the fan if i felt like it. Be nice if that was simply part of CCC. Set your fanspeed at various temp points.

Honestly, if its an issue much like with 3870, just turn the fans up with riva tuner (hopefully supported soon).

To answer someones question from above, DVi works fine, DVI to HDMI is fine. Driving a 22" @ 1680 x 1050 and a Samsung Series 3 at 1920 x 1080... (strange as its supposed to be only 1080i, but my 3870 in xfire drove it at same res)

Yeah, wish CCC had programmable fan profiles. I set mine up with riva tuner on my 3870 and it works great. Set my idle fan to 40% which is still silent, and it kicks up at preset temps to 100% at 85c.

I've seen this mentioned before. There can be only one explanation for this and that is that the voltage does not really change.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

It does change, confirmed with a DMM, idle voltage for RV670XT (HD3870) is 1.241v and 3D voltage is 1.327v. Miwo, myself and lots of people have tested this and it's a well proved fact. The key to reduce power consumption in RV670 is to lower frequency, lowering voltage has virtually no effect. And it seems RV770 is the same. I don't have an explanation, but it happens. Maybe they disable some parts of the chip at low MHz, who knows.
