EDIT: Found a roadmap, hard to read. Looks like nvidia uses 3600 and broadcom 2100, so no real new stuff here.

AMD anounced 2007 that they will release a server chipset with sandtiger. I could not find anything that they plan server chipsets for budpest.

Is the 790GX comparable to the 790FX?

I understand the 790GX includes GFX.
Is the 790GX like a 790FX+GFX? Are they the same performance and o/c wise?
If yes then why not buy a 790GX instead of a 790FX.

From what I understand the 790fx is still suppose to be their top end chipset. Capable of full 3 and 4 discrete card CrossfireX.

790GX is suppose to be like a cross between the 780g chipset with the built in graphics processor, and the 790X chipset which is the trimmed down version of the 790fx. From what I've seen of the 790gx boards they won't have more than 2x pcie x16 slots, like the old 790x boards. But the built in graphics on the chipset will allow AMD/ATi to use Hybrid Xfire on the higher end cards to compete with NVidia's hybrid SLI features.


I just wanna see what the real performance potential is of the spider platform with the 790fx/gx paired with the sb750. If it jumps up well, I'll be upgradin to a deneb based phenom when they release.

I dont think this roadmap is correct either. If Sandtiger is a 2011 product it clearly should be a 32nm product. Yet Dirk Mayer in the most recent earnings call said quite clearly that the buldozer arch is a 45nm product and will begin sampling in 2009

The Bulldozer core is in development in 45-nanometer technology and we’ll be sampling that in 2009.

Clearly we’ll give our product line a good pop when we introduce the 45-nanometer quad-core products, code named Shanghai. And then we’ll be introducing a new platform architecture later 2009, early 2010.

Depressing ... but now it's confirmed. Hector Ruiz is a MCM-hater at a time when it could have saved his company. He didn't allow it on K8, and will now disallow it when it can easily be done with two 45nm Shanghai cores.

If I don't see a Shanghai MCM or DDR3 with 45nm in 2009, I'm going VIA

I guess tdp or temperature issues due to low-k. I guess they'l benefit more from going high-k than from using ddr3.

"nano" level. You know that IBM and AMD practically married so ,will see, still 5 years away

At this shop there's a SB750 for pre-order with an ETA of 52 days left. But now I think about it, I think it's been on 52 days for 2 days now so. Maybe Im wrong though. I wont buy that Foxconn A79A-S, however it's a nice indication when we might expect other SB750 boards as well. Although I hope it will be a bit sooner than almost 2 months but well, better late than never

PS, cant find out to link directly to the motherboard section. So go to 'Producten' --> Moederborden --> AM2 and scroll down to Foxconn section.

Some boards are very unclear or hard to find good information about though. But well, they should be in shops soon enough though

I've seen a few boards listed as 790FXB, does anyone know if there is an actual revision to the 790FX chip, or is this just a way for mobo manufactures to distinguish between the SB600 and SB750 versions?

Looks like mobo manufacturers are going to have to make sure the connections are there for all this stuff to work. Hopefully they will!!

I dont think that's going to work sadly, there's a reason they release this stuff. I highly doubt they first released SB600 on purpose not to work very well with Phenom, although you cant be sure though.
