[ATI's. I've been saying that since the first 3DMark 06 scores came- with the proper, perhaps normal Vantage scores ]

Believe me, if they wanted to kill the 3870X2, they would have given all kinds of magic to the 8800GTSes and 9800GTXes. The "new" driver is just a by-product of GT200 optimization- and some EXTRA features in G92 that's not present in G80, I guess. It's now all about GT200 anyway though, since the 9800GX2 is EOL.

Is that 100% confirmed now? I read it a while ago, on fudzilla or something though.

Are you talking about synthetic tests or about games, cause I believe they can bring out "magic 3D mark edition" driver and cut the image that goes on the monitor, but who cares when the scores are higher...

BS! Its no fake. Why do u call it a fake? Of cause GPU-Z can properly read HD4800 series.

Man, that "fake, fake, fake" is just so annoying

If it can read properly, why does it show 57GB/s bandwidth? And why is the card named HD4800 series and not HD4870?

I assume that's really an HD4870, but GPU-Z does not read it properly, it will, but it doesn't
    Are we there yet?

It just detects the 900MHz GDDR5 basic clk, and so i calculates the bandwidth w/ these 900MHz. Thats the only thing wrong, but this is the first GDDR5 card and so its no big deal. GDDR5 = 4x900MHz.

Although the HD4850 and HD4850 CF Benchies are really sweet to look at, i saw a benchmark in mascaras thread where he compared a single 4850 to a 9800 gtx, and it lost by a bit.

    The 4850s @ $199 each CF make $399 approx
if one performs worse than the 9800 gtx, isn't it assumable that the 9800gx2 will beat 4850s in CF

The 9800GX2 can be had for $399 now so wouldn't that still be the better buy over 2x4850?

I love ATI and I hope that they will come out on top, I mean I'll have to see all official benchmarks before making my decision, but am I right thus far?

    CF scaling > SLI scaling.
    9800GTX SLI > 9800GX2.
And it was only one benchmark where the 9800GTX won. Wait for more results.

Both companies optimize stuff to get best performance and sorry when playing a game at 1600 x 1200 I hardly notice any IQ cheat when playing... I don't take screenshots to see how the leaves wave and if they colours blend better... if I have to give in a bit in IQ, but being rewarded with better overal performance... I will be happily obliged to install the IQ CHEAT driver...

Drivers optimisations are also required for remaining compatible with games, solve bugs and stuff... it's not all about IQ...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Keep in mind, several sources now have claimed that 4850 CF outperforms the GTX280.

sorry if they had done this 4 weeks ago maybe but now it's just a cheat because of the 4x00 series

and i don't have a 30" lcd and run at 2560x1600 in everything i can for lower IQ
but if all you want is fast and don't care about IQ try CGA

I liked the non edited verion more .
Single card gets around 5k 3DM06 less than a GTX280 with a 4GHz E8400. Can't see how a second card will make up the difference.

You really seem to have no idea how hard it is to deliver a full 100% ready product on a fixed release date... I can tell you it's pretty impossible when you want to be competitive... look at DFI they bring out enthousiast mobo's but are always trailling big companies like Asus and Gigabyte... who are on the market with the same chipset at least a few months earlier...

And for first person shooters online I prefer to have 60fps at least at all times to keep my feel... if I have to play at medium to have that I will set it... singleplayer I don't mind dropping to 30fps and have some eyecandy...

So next time ATI releases a driver with improved performance I'll bump in here with the IQ cheat comment... NOT there's more to performance tuning than decreasing IQ ...

and this driver is for the 9800GTX when was it's release date?
if it was for the gtx260,280 ok there new and drivers will get better same as the 4000's
and if ati lowered QI for speed for my 3870's in a driver i wouldn't use it and bit*h just as much

The rv770 taped out half a year ago, and has been in production for a while now. Even though the 4870 and 4870x2 won't be ready for a while, I'm certain has had a long time to work on the 4850's drivers to the least (which should be the same for 4870 anyways).

I still find it kinda weird how everyone is ignoring the 46x0 series, we all have established the 48x0 cards will be monsters, but since the rv770 has 800 sp, you only wonder what ATI is packing in the rv730. I'm betting there's a chance that 240 number isn't true either, as ATI false rumors had the rv770 sandbagging big time. But even if the specs are true, when's the launch date and where will the performance lie?
