im not sure which other card to compare to it when it comes to power consumption, from the "middle enthusiast segment" or whatever they call the 150$ to 300$ range...
8800gt and hd3870 are around that power consumption too
    Are we there yet?

250 Euro for 4870? 175 Euro is much higher price than the first predicted ~230$, but to be honest the card worths every cent .

This looks more promising and the "prediction" of ~230$ is right.

Spoke to some one who works at OcUK just now and he said that they will on sale tomorrow. From OcUK any way, will ask around a few other places.

My guess is the 2 x GTX260 will beat what ATI puts out in the 2 GPU arena. Sure maybe if you 4x some stuff it'll beat 2x GTX260s but the price will probably be higher too. They need to priced $350
I highly doubt that because the user base running Nvidia mobos is pretty small compared to Xfire capable Intel chipped mobos.

*sigh* I have seen the leaked prices as well. But people here seem to have short memories. AMD's own literature admits that the 4850 is supposed to compete with the 8800GT and the 4870 is supposed to compete with the 8800GTS 512 and 9800 GTX. But no one seems to believe them. AMD is pretty short on money at the moment. If they really thought the 4850 for instance could compete with the GTX260 don't you think they would be pricing a bit closer to Nvidia? Now maybe it's true that AMD overestimated the performance of the GTX200 series, but AMD is a huge corporation. They are in business to make money. They are not saints. If their cards do better in comparison to Nvidia, they will probably raise MSRPs and even if they don't the market will do it for them. I remember not so long ago when ATI was on top. Their cards were more expensive than Nvidia for equal levels of performance. Of course ATI is no longer in control of pricing. And, unlike ATI, AMD does have a history of agressive pricing. But you could still see their true colors before Core was released in the way that they priced their FX series. Not much bang for the buck there. The point of all this is that AMD would be gouging too if they thought they could get away with it. I think the 4870 will be slightly faster than the 8800GTS/9800GTX, and I think the 4870x2 will be something like 20% faster than the GTX280 when it is released in late August. Then we will see about what angels they are about "ridiculous" pricing.

4870 is delayed for 6th July, so because of that Ati is taking out the cards sooner than we have expected. And one more thing, don't you think that even 4850 can be at one level with 9800GTX/8800GTS or even faster? With all that power it shows, nvidia can only hope for equal results .
P.S. Sry, I have forgotten about the source : http://forum.donanimhaber.com/m_24064311/tm.htm

AMD's own in-house slides showed 30-40% increases over the compared nVidia products (8800GT for the 4850, 9800GTX for the 4870).... Considering the pricing I wouldn't say the 4800's are competing with the G92's, but utterly destroying them.

    oooh, exciting.

"The GTX 280 is slower than a pair of CrossFired 4850s for the most part; it’s also $250 AUD dearer. The price on the HD 4850 in AUD is around $250, so $500 for a pair while the GTX 280 is starting at $750. So, a pair of 4850s isn’t enough to drag me away from my consoles, but the 4870s should if the 4850 is anything to go by. The best thing about them however is that the value these cards will offer is nothing short of astonishing."

"As frustrated at NVIDIA as I am, who has really annoyed me is ATI. The fact that the NDA has been pushed back is just killing me. Knowing the results on the HD 4850 has completely changed my outlook on the GTX 280. At the moment, a lot of review websites have compared the GTX 280 to the 9800 GX2 and they see the performance being similar with a single core, then they see the new technology that’s implemented into the card and find it all to be pretty amazing. Performance talks though, and if these people had seen the HD 4850 run in CrossFire, I don’t doubt that their opinion on the cards would have likely changed."

    Prices my man..

9600gt much cheaper, in europe you can get two for 180 euros ( same price as HD4850 )

I want to see single card performance numbers from the HD4850, only comeback I am seeing is crossfire.

Sli scales very well as well you know.

    9800gtx is reaching/ will reach HD4850 prices

    HD4850 vs 9800gtx bring it!!!!

Oh....my.....god! Looks like it's payback time for AMD. It looks like AMD is going to be the one opening the can of whoopass on Nvidia this summer. Who would have thunk it. Let's see how they behave themselves when they have the lead again. We'll have to see if they give us great prices out of the kindness of their hearts. I'm in for a 4870x2 on release day for sure. It looks like it's going to kick some serious tailbone. Maybe we'll start getting back to the old days of 6 month releases like clockwork and vicious competition between Nvidia and ATI (AMD). But I wonder what AMD would do about a 55nm GTX295 GX2. Now if AMD could just catch up to a company like Intel, who hasn't been sitting on their arses for the past year waiting for them to catch up we could be back to competitive markets for CPUs and GPUs.

I doubt as a whole the 4870 will be 60% faster than the 4850, I just can't see that happening, it would be amazing if true, but I just don't see it happening

I refuse to participate in any debate with creationists because doing so would give them the "oxygen of respectability" that they want.
Creationists don't mind being beaten in an argument. What matters to them is that I give them recognition by bothering to argue with them in public.
