I have been using 4 different cards on two computers over the last 2 years 2 x1900xt , 8800gtx, 9800gx2 ( sold it after 3 weeks, waste of money ) 2 x 9600gt and the single 8800gtx gave me the smoothest playing experience..

I would be getting the same mimimum frame rate of 15fps - 20 fps on my single 8800gtx, as I would on 9800gx2 @ 1920 x 1200, same would happen on 9600gt, only mimumum frame rates would be lower than 9600gt.

Now yee are talking about the amazing budget power of the 4850 and I've just my crossfire mobo for a sli one 6 months back....

Getting a bit pissed off at this stage with computing in general.

Nobody forced you to sell CF mobo and buy a SLI one..
And you still don't know how CF works with 4850 cards. So don't claim it performs worse in gaming until it's a proven fact.

BTW 8800GTS SLI ,following your logic,is then faster than GTX280 while costing 2x less...And don't fool yourself with SLI 8800GTS being faster than 4850 CF,you're going to be very disappointed soon.

edit:also you are wrong about the prices of SLI 8800GTS and single 4850...
According to Anand the 8800gt in sli is beating it ( GTX280 ) at high res (1920x1200) and higher.

    2 x 8800gts = $300

    2 x HD4850 = $400

    2 X HD3870 = $260

Ati/ the market set up by these greedy companies forced me..

9600gt's were €110, HD3870 were €170 and crossfire was buggy as hell on my x1900xt's

Radeons 4xxx aren't officially launched and you are using pre-release prices to compare them to a cards that just had price drops??Way to go.
Just wait 2 weeks and see how much will Radeons cost and compare it then.

why are people using silly amounts of AA? realisticly you use the amount of aa to give you smooth frames like 40 or 50+.
that being said the cod4 crossfire score is really really impressive...

    poor you
im quite sure a 4850 will be a good bit more powerful that a 9600 and thus be a better performer in and out of crossfire.

Are you implying they might have done away with microstuttering (thus AFR) ?

$219 after MIR. A harbinger of things to come in the very near term. When the 4850 comes out that's what all the stock 9800GTXs will be selling at, or less.

I have a 8800gtx and will not be paying €100 for a crossfire board when a new socket is coming in 5 months..

    Bye bye, nVidia
For me was the most interesting part the 4870 tests with GTX 280. In the Lost Planet, which we all know that is nvidia's speciality and there the logo that stays at the start of the game means well optimized drivers. To me all the other games instead of Crysis are the main target of comparison of the two cards.
P.S. All those lower prices of the cards are not available in all parts of the world, so we shall only compare the original prices, given from the producer.

Then you will wait until then and then will decide what to buy. It is simple. If you have changed your 9800GX2, which till now is the fastest card in the world, so the logic says that you don't have to buy GTX 280...

    Crysis@1680x1050 DX10 very high 4xAA/16xAF is no problem w/ HD4850 CF.

    How is that?

    Its gets 22fps @ 1920 x 1200, which is 30% higher res, not 100%

    U can play Crysis @30FPS really smooth (23FPS*1.3 = 30FPS).

It wont be constant, especially on crossfire, frames will be dropping well below 20fps to make a 30fps average.

Ok, but this is on a 3GHz Phenom, so w/ a 4GHz Yorkfield it should work.

y2kbos, please don't come here and make those kind of statements

It's sad to see someone saying that the GTX 280 is still a better card when it is slower than 4850 CF (which I don't believe actually) but your logic is screwed up. If 4850 CF > GTX 280 and 8800GT SLI > 4850 CF, then that means 8800GT SLI > GTX 280 And that's using YOUR logic

@ Wombat, great results But I believe we should be comparing 4850 CF ($199+$199 = $399) with GTX 260 ($399) and not GTX 280 ($650) because GTX performance is far from finalized from what I hear on the upcoming drivers.
