Oh and Vista Ultimate (i know, I KNOW!)
It's certainly different this time, if the 7950 wasn't so bad then the 8800 wouldn't have been the omgwtfbbq performance leap that it was. This time they made a decent job of their GX2, so the next single GPU was always going to be labeled disappointment by some people from the start.
i've been using 2x9800GX2 + E8500@4+GHz on Vista 64(4x1GB DDR3) and i was hoping i'd be able to play Crysis @1920x1200(since 2560x1600 is still a slideshow)
The framerate was decent,i think it was around 40fps(according to Fraps) BUT the game was not playable at all.The in-game delay was about 300-500ms when an explosion or gunshot occured,just like lagging in a multiplayer game.As you can understand,this effect cancels the extra power of the second card,it actually delivered "on screen" worst result than a single card.
I am not sure if this is called "microstuttering",i had to read/learn about it while trying to tune my system.Correct me if i'm wrong
So,i guess the GTX280SLI will perform much better compared to 9800GX2 SLI because of better synchronization

i get a bit of lag with explosions, when im in the middle of them....in bf2142The in-game delay was about 300-500ms when an explosion or gunshot occured...with my gt @ 8xQ. but lag is very rare.
crysis is the dog.
well, who's gonna be the guinea pig for this one?So,i guess the GTX280SLI will perform much better compared to 9800GX2 SLI because of better synchronization
somethings bottlenecking those gx2's, and i dont think it's fixable. () would it be smooth at 5GHz? cpu? at those settings? somehow i doubt it. it is an sli/scaling/sync problem i think, until proven wrong.

D10U = 65NM GT 200
D11U = 55NM GT 200 with some minor enhancements mid next year
D12U = Completely new architecture.
That's what I've heard around the web. Plus, the fact that Nvidia has already stated that the G92b (9800 series on 55nm) will be around for 6-12 months more so yea, no new high end very soon.
Perkam
my god..
i guess its true, nothing is holding back any games bar crysis. Truely a bad sign, well good for cost but you know what i mean. I guess its not all bad, but at least newer games should run as smooth as butter (or almost) even on G80 cards.
do you know a time gap between the D11U and D12U?![]()
From a performance standpoint, I doubt it. Performance will probably be close, as 8800GTX SLI should be a bit faster than a 9800GX2 and the GTX 280 should be a bit faster than the GX2 at high res.
Previous high-end SLI -> New high-end has never given you much of a performance increase, except 7900GTX SLI -> 8800GTX.
but what about 8800 gtx sli to gtx280 sli???![]()
