What you gonna do with your GTX 280?

I have a 8800gts 512mb at the moment in my little matx beast, dont know what I am going to do, has to be single card...

Don't the cores have to be the same variant to do that? Similar limitation as SLI i thought, ie you can crossfire a 3850 and a 3870 but not a 2900 and a 3870. Are the 48XX's going to be the same core as 3000 series?

15k on 3dmark06 is not bad at all.

I would love to see how does hd4850 scales with some more mhz on memory and core .

If that's so, it's equivalent to an 8800GT.
    Are we there yet?

    E8400 @ 4.0ghz and 9800gtx gets the same..

    I get 13.4k with 8800gts and E2180 @ 3.30ghz

Decent but its the SM2/HDR scores that matter. The SM2 is about 1000 less than my 88GTX got with a Q6600 @ 3.6 but the HDR is about 900 higher so they've made some improvements there for sure.

Its because the 2900xt and 3870 are the same card, only real difference is the memory controller, other than that the 3870 is a die shrink with a few more features

    If these posted earlier

are true, we may be unlikely to see improvements from the next gen cards in 3dmark06.

Score with Stock Intel Quad = 13k. Nice, but not amazing.

This does set up the 4870 to get 15k stock though, and 17k with a 4Ghz Intel Quad. (Coming HERRENDOUSLY close to the GTX 280 mark 0_o)

3D Mark benches are nice to get at this stage, but totally pointless in the scheme of things..

Crysis, WIC, COD4, COH 1920x1200, Very High Quality are the benches needed to tell ous what these cards can do..

We might get these in the next few days, looks good so far for Ati

Hey dude, would you mind posting temperatures as well? I'd like to see idle temperatues and load temps, and see if this 70C at idle is true or not.

    4850 is a $220 card

    4870 with 512MB GDDR5, which is expected to get 17k with a 4ghz Quad, is $329

So hard to decide. Should I get dual 4870s in crossfire on my X48(and take a risk on crossfire compatibility and support)? Or just get the GTX280??
