You should adjust your motherboard voltages manually, Asus motherboards sometimes give way too much voltage when their values are set in AUTO.

FPO number Q812A268, my board is a Gigabyte EP35C DS3R with F2 bios verion installed, i`ve tried with F3b and F3e but the results are mostly the same, 2 GB of Corsair XMS2 6400 CL4, Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 on the cpu, the ram voltage is 2.1 when oc`ed it runs 1:1 with the cpu, i don`t know what to say have I stumbled upon a very hungry CPU or am I not doing the correct changes in my bios.I must say that the PCI-EX clock is set to 100 or 90 in both ways the cpu needs 1.4 to hit 4 ghz, i don`t leave it on auto because it doesn`t start at all at that frequency, that`s about it.

Man what I'd give to have it up to 10c at night! It's around 6c at night this week, not shorts and t-shirt temps, I have to wear shorts and a long sleeved shirt.

No,actually this batch sucks,i had one that needeee 1.4 for about 3.9 ghz,beware of Q812

I can't on mine either, I have to bump the Vcore to 1.28V @ 3.6

well i don`t have to bump it that far, at 1.28 i can enter windows with it at 3800 but it`s not stable,for 3,6 it nees about 1.25.

Yeh I normally set them manually, just never gave a thought towards the FSB VTT.

I backed it down to 1.3 BIOS and 1.23 windows... still rock solid.

Good man -- Can I ask you what CPU PLL settings is at in bios ? I hope 1.5 if Auto plz set to 1.5 (that overvolted on my Maximus mobo to 1.6)

I think I'm definately going to buy another e8400 as my 4.0ghz vcore requirements are a bit disappointing (1.352 load). would i tbe best to buy at a local store or from newegg ?

I finally got my E8400 stable at 9x450.

I was expecting worse from this batch, but I'm very happy so far with my results.

by your temps in RealTemp, I'd say your voltage is a little too low. At 4050, mine idles around 27c realtemp. Also:
PLL 1.6
VTT 1.2

hiya ive got prob with my 8400. Ive got difference in temps on each cores... the difference isnt 2-5C but 17C! what i think couse probs with OC my chip. What can b the reason of this? Bad mounted water block?

I think ive got a very similar batch to yours....

But mines a bit earlier though......Q743A689

The ambient for me is around 27-31c, my setup normally idles around 34c, yet one of my cores shows 26c...what this means is it's a stuck sensor on idle. If I run full load of prime95 or orthos, they are identical or within 1-2c of each other.
