I had problems with mt X-Fi also, what I did was reformat drives and do a clean install and reload creative drivers first before anything else. and I haven't had a problem at all sense. the last driver I installed was my video drivers. seems creative drivers don't like being install after nvidia drivers.

Link doesn`t work, do you mean the new beta driver ?
    http://at.europe.creative.com/suppor...ct=0&x=25&y=11

    Fixes:

    * Resolves issues of intermittent and random application/system crash when playing games or running applications that use EAX®, DirectSound®, OpenAL and/or ASIO features.
    * Resolves issue of volume mapping leading to very soft volume level in systems using Windows Vista with Service Pack 1.
    * Resolves issue with distortion and noise occuring in systems with 4 GB of RAM or greater.

Got my hopes up...I just installed these beta drivers. Does NOT fix distorsion when using NVIDIA 175 series for me.

    Back to 174 again.

You say that the creative drivers don't like to be installed before nvidia drivers. But before that you say you installed the creative drivers first and all's good.

Altought i´m not quite sure, i think QWIK is right, install X-FI drivers FIRST and install the nvidia video drivers AFTER.
I say this, because i was having issues with sound, and one of the times i´ve done a fresh SO install, i´ve installed F-XI drivers first and then video drivers(i was doing the reverse the other times) and things seem to work much better this way...
