    Server upgrades again

I picked up another Xserve and adding it into the mix. I will mirror this database and have vbadvanced front end, I am attempting to make the move off postnuke.

I doubt any downtime for the forums or front page, just a heads up if you see any weird front page or forum database behavior over the next few days.

As part of my developer deals and regular site upkeep I plan to continue upgrading at a decent interval. Having one of the fastest sites is high priority.

Wait, people actually use apple servers?

So, do you find them to be better than other servers in some way then?

Wow took 8 posts this time.

Xserves are nice, competitively priced machines, especially now that they're Xeon boxes and Mac OS X Server is a good, secure UNIX OS especially for things like web hosting.

Furthermore, FUGGER gets a deal as an Apple developer as he mentioned (again).

I like the xserves, but i just didnt think anyone used them. Most people laugh at apple computers, so a apple server is just silly to many people.

I want a xserve, theyre soo purty!

Seems like heavy disk activity will cause db errors.

I rebooted too, mysql was down twice.

I plan on leaving the backup on this running server and moving it into the mirrored position and putting this new faster server as our live.

There is quite a bit of info for doing this on OS X so it should go pretty easy, you have done this before George?

I have navicat, makes it easy to test remote database access and logins.

Fugger have you though of limiting time between searches to say 20 or even 30 seconds? It often helps to speed up and put less stress on the server.

We are under utilizing this server now, searches are as fast as they can be, just need faster drives.

I dont restrict with image verification or time limit, finding information without squinting at jumbled up letters.

Maybe we will be on SSD soon, already looking at options/candidates.

The live server is not a test bed, I keep many backups in place. This new machine is so I dont have to touch the live servers and get as close to 100% before swapping the IP addresses.
