    Good day, team!

I'm not happy with where my last build left me. The P5B Dlx just struggles with the Q6600 I dropped in there. I can't seem to get it much past 3150.

So I ordered an open-box MSI P35 Neo 2-FR, for $60 ( along with a Saitek Eclipse and a Xigmatex HDT-S1283 cooler ). I worked 2 days OT during the Memorial Day weekend so this is my hardware reward...

Once I get the quad ensconced in the MSI, I'm going to put my long idle E6600 in the P5B Dlx. So that will be another two cores going. Hopefully I can run both the E and the Q 6600's at or around 3600 MHz. I sold my other E6600, about a week ago, for $150, but I don't know whether that was the "good one" or not ( one was good for 3.6, the other struggled much over 3.3 ).

I've been trying to refrain from buying asus boards but it's tough because they're always first with new stuff. I really like the msi p35. I like the xigmatek hdt tower coolers too although I find the fans a bit weak. Hardware reward huh? Can I steal that? Could be useful for future justification

For once this isn't Asus' fault, quadcores are just realls limited by the P965 chipset. I couldn't get my Q6600 higher than ~FSB 380 on my AB9 QuadGT for stable operation.
I'd get an E8200 or E8400 for the P5B if I was you... these chips run like mad on P965-based mobos, there's virtually no FSB limit (550+ possible)

    ...steal away!

Yeah, I don't have to justify to anyone but myself. However I put myself on a "no hardware for a while" limitation. But that is because work has cutway back on the OT. Almost non-existant, now. But for some reasons they cut loose on holiday weekends.

So yeah, my reward, for working my two days off, was those three items.
Still leaves some extra $$ to refill the coffers, plus fixes my hardware jones.

I've never used any other coolers other than TRUE or TT 120's on C2D/C2Q's ( other than earlier on re-using a TT BT or two from my A64 days... ). So, I'm interested in the Xigmatek. I'd heard that, too, about their relatively weak fan; I have a brand new 110CFM Scythe waiting to replace it. I'm not even gonna bother with seeing how the stock one is.

Well, the reviews rave about the cooler. It'd be nice to have a cheaper alternative to the usual suspects. I've bought quite a few of those. So, looking forward to it.

Ouch, well hopefully you'll be back up quickly.

Since I started crunching I've had to upgrade the wiring in my house a few times. What I really ought to do is get a bigger power box.

I really have no clue when. But I will be sending the two respective items to my contact who will send them for RMA. I should be able to get an instant motherboard replacement however, I may have to pitch in a bit of money for another model (x48) because the x38 is scarce.

As for the PSU, may take awhile before I can get my replacement. It starts making static sounds after being hooked onto my computer for 10 minutes. As the fan speed increases, that is when the sound comes in. When I stop the fan, so does the static sound. My question is, is it worth the effort to send it in for RMA or should I just break the sticker, open the PSU chassis and replace the fan?

Edit// Keep up the work team.

I like the cooler but as you observed the fan's weak. A decent high cfm fan on there and it almost keeps up with the TRUE. I'm trying out a 1284 now too and that seems a good oc'd quad cooler as well.

Whats wrong with your mobo fungry? I'd think these mobos are indestructible, it's the 1st to hold my Q6600@4Ghz and not to die within 2 weeks

Definitely replace the fan. It will be a lot quieter afterwards if you choose a good fan. (~1500RPM 120mm will be fine)
