Hi Guys
I've got some new Corsair Dominator 2133C9 RAM to torture. They are obviously DDR3 sticks with 1066MHz stock speed and CAS9 latency.
I saw some naked Dominators bunched up in the labs while i was there recently and something very interesting caught my eye.................... 1066MHz RAM and font on ICs looked a bit wrong (as in not recognisable Micron gear)
Next thing i see is Michal casually booting his P5E3 Premium at 600MHz 1:2 on watercooling with RAM at 1200MHz....that's just nuts
Without further to do i'll get straight into it. Thanks to Dan for bringing my freshly baked and still warm DDR3 packagehahahah
Test Configuration:
Nvidia Reference 790i (P05 bios) STOCK BOARD NO MODS
Intel Core2 Duo E8500 CPU
2GB Corsair DOMINATORS DDR3 2133MHz PC17056<< strange number lol
Gigabyte 9800GX2 Graphics Card
620W Corsair PSU
TT BigTyphoon Cooling CPU
160GB IDE Hard Drive
Windows XP Pro 32bit SP2
These were teeny weeny hours of the morning during which i was doing my initial testing ....so 3 quick hours with these lovely modules went something like this...................Note that these were really easy and quick results to achieve....second session will have a bit more tweaking and i will also do some vdimm testing to see how well they play
STOCK SETTINGS
32M SuperPi @ 1066MHz 9-9-9-24 1T
(P1&P2 enabled in bios......haven't touched subtimings in bios nor windows)
I've also made a brief YOUTUBE video RAM overclockin guide covering windows and bios here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNX3imOCQ_o
CAS 8 OVERCLOCK
32M SuperPi @ 1050MHz 8-8-8-20 1T
(Auto settings left in bios for subtimings and untouched in windows)
CAS 8 OVERCLOCK
32M SuperPi @ 1050MHz 8-8-8-20 1T
(tightened tRC & tRFC. You cannot adjust tRFC in bios for now even though
i've made several requests for the inclusion of this timing in bios but you can tighten tRC)
CAS 7 OVERCLOCK
32M SuperPi @ 925MHz 7-7-7-20 1T
(tightened tRC & tRFC)
CAS 7 3D TEST
E8500 @ 4545MHz
3DMARK01 @ 925MHz 7-7-7-20 1T
(tightened tRC & tRFC)
GIGABYTE 9800GX2 overclocked to 782/1944/1170
As you can see these new non-Micron ICs have a lot to offer. Hopefully yields & manufacturing improves even more to finally enable us to bench or run 24/7 some DDR3 gear at 2GHz+ CAS7 and 2.0vdimm. It seems that we are not too far from that goal.
790i has improved for me with this new P05 bios as i had not experienced a drive corruption that i usually would during experimental RAM testinghehehehhe
Thanks to Corsair for providing this kit for testing
....to be continued
