AF on HD2900 cards are slightly better than High Quality AF on X1900 cards. It was slightly optimized over X1900's, but still has that 45-degree angle problem.

--two awesome rigs, wildly customized with
5.1 Sony speakers, Stereo 3D, UV Tourmaline Confexia, Flame Bl00dr4g3 Fatal1ty
--SONY GDM-FW900 24" widescreen CRT, overclocked to:
    2560x1600 resolution at 68Hz!(from 2304x1440@80Hz)

either RV770 has more power than all the specs we have been getting or the numbers have been "modified or falsified" performance should be closer to the 3870x2 not above the 9800gx2. i hope im wrong then i can keep an intel board and have a wicked sweet crossfire for pretty cheap but i think even the ATI boys will take a skeptical look at these numbers. also i would expect the HD4850 numbers to show up first considering they are almost ready to be released and GDDR5 is still pretty green.

    proof for that...

since RV770 is essentially a RV670 on steroids imho nothing will change with the X2, it will be the same CF on board solution that the old X2 was.

There are better ways to fix that than hardware.

    For example, drivers.

I'm talking about the new bridge between the chips, not just the gpus, that bridge may be able to eliminate/reduce microstuttering if ati has the proper drivers to go with it

In high framerate numbers the stuttering effect diminishes. Most microstuttering examples happen on rigs with odd configs, bad profiles and settings that might have been too high.

Maybe you could try not being a miser, and grab proper cards instead of something that barely makes out. nVidia's current chips already use a lot of video RAM, 512MB SLi + high res might look good in FRAPS but not be smooth.

3870 on the other hand has terrible fillrate and texture power that X2ing it is equally dumb as the minimum frame will be bad. At least it uses video RAM effectively.

And FYI, you think people like [H] really play the game for smoothness? They just run through a same scene using FRAPs, and see if the framerate dips below 30fps. The 3870X2 did that, the 8800GT SLI combo won't, but frame swapping at 1920*1200 will definitely happen either way.

I do own a 8800GT SLI rig and in most games I tested with high settings at 1440*900 and 1680*1050 resolution, there is TERRIBLE micro-stuttering, which gave me perceived FPS's of 30-40 whereas FRAPS was showing 60-70.

SLI sucks, CF sucks, wanna know why? AFR sucks.

    QFT.

I also had a 8800GT SLI rig a few months ago, and Crysis Very High Dx10 Vista x64 gave me micro stuttering, not a very good gaming experience, I admit, so I preferred sticking to single card...
