    Video Corruption Solved

So NVidia figured out the video corruption issue and have let motherboard manufacturers know how to fix it. This means we should get a new bios soon.

Our rigs are almost identical (no reptors here). On Vista Ultimate 64 I see no playback problems.

NVIDIA is aware of reports of graphical corruption when playing videos with certain platform and graphics card configurations. We have been able to reproduce the issue on nForce 780i SLI and nForce 750i SLI platforms. We have released a BIOS fix for these platforms. Please contact your motherboard manufacturer for the updated BIOS.

It sounds like that's for the reference boards (evga, xfx,). The striker inst a reference board. I dont think Nvidia releases bios updates for Strikers.

Yeh same, I have tried everything, every driver out there for my GPUs and nothing has worked, and on the asus forums it has been said that striker 2 formula suffers from the same problem as the reference boards, with my old striker exteme never had this problem, ever since I moved to the 780I chipset My SLI has been unstable, I have tried the evga 780I and that had the same problem but really poor overclocking so I moved on to this board. and so far overclocking is better but SLI is just a pain in the ass, wish intel motherboards had SLI that would be a dream come true tbh

It's not people stressing the mobo. Some mobo's are fine and everything works, and others are filled with issues. You just got lucky and got a good one.

From what i've heard most people should have NB cooling when overclocking. If you're stable with no cooling at 3.6 then you have done a fine job. No idea what your temps are now. But more mhz would sure bring up the temps. Me personally i'm looking for fast and silent.

An update to the hell I am having

Well i figured my ram or some of it was bad. Either way the frezzing that you can read about in pages back i cant get rid of.
Today i figured i would give it another go. I read that i when having two sticks of ram you put them in the first and third slots. Yes i guess i should have known that b4 now. But i had 4 sticks b4 so i just didnt care. I've tried the sticks 1 each in the first slot already. So for whatever reason i did make it to windows and was up and running for 30+ mins. A record by a long margin, being most times i couldnt get past the republic of gamers screen. But then i got brave and plugged in the ethernet. All i wanted was the internet to work. Not a big deal, right? But while it worked, the mouse would be sluggish and for some reason sometimes liked the hard desk surface and not the mouse pad(big ass gaming mouse pad). It's not the batteries cause i replaced them. And it's not the mouse either. Cause when i unplug the ethernet the mouse worked fine. But then i would play arround and notice a little more sluggishness, without the ethernet. Now i dont know what the issue is. Maybe the new 1303 bios which i am useing. I tried reinstalling the nvidia ethernet drivers. But it didnt work, actually after uninstalling it, when i tried reinstalling it, it the desktop froze along with the mouse cursor. So now i am back where i started from. Not having a clue what's going on.

My question is, what is going on? Could it still be a case of bad ram. I have reason to believe maybe all the sticks are crap. Funny how they worked great for 3 months. Anyway i did manage to run a few benchmarks on the ram on everest. Came away with the same great scores as once b4. Read write and lat. I did manage to run the Vista performace tool "reliability and performance monitor". It showed alot of hard memory faults. I have no idea what this means but it can't be good, right? In my mind there shouldnt be any faults. But i have no idea, cause i cant find any info on this new windows feature. Could bad ram all of a sudden cause the ethernet to mess up my mouse. or more or less maybe not the mouse but the system begining to freeze. Could it be the motherboard or more likley the ram. Here is a screenshot of the Everest, showing my temps. They seem good to me. Plus i did go in the bios and check the NB and SB. NB was in the low 70's and SB was mid 50's.

One thing i noticed. While the bios settings are all on auto. The memory on the everest screen save it should be at 2.0 voltage but the bios says it's at 1.83, does this matter. All my settings in the bios are auto, so no overclocking.

Most definitely! Without the rated volts, you are going to run into problems. Set your ram volts to what it say in CPUID SPD data table, or as per rated specs.

Kudos (Κύδος=Δόξα) to you my friend. I've read all of your posts. You have done a great job in overclocking Striker II Formula (S2F). Among others, your post about HT1.2 affecting overclocking and bandwidth was great. Did you try to combine HT1.2 value with tRD setting?

    To your question now.
I wrote about the defective heatpipes before. You might cut them without any effect on the temperatures. So in case you leave the copper plate that covers both NF200 and the southbridge and use four small aluminum heatsinks on top and a good heatsink with a fan on the southbridge, you are going to get lower temperatures on both the NF200 and the southbridge.
Though my suggestion is to drill a small hole on each heatpipe, fill them with water half way and close the hole by soldering. This way you are going to have working heatpipes, transferring heat at the mosfets area.

i finaly got this board today and it is great
only problem i have is the chipset is still too hot
i removed the heatpipes as soon as i got the board i applied some MX-2
and even with a 40mm fan the NB idles at 60c (450FSB 1.47v) and load is around 67c

i already have some thermalright coolers for the mosfets + NB + SB but i dont have anything for the NF200

what do you recommend i use to cool it

does it get that hot would a bga ramsink be ok?

    thanks

You definitely want to cool the nF200. I fried one with a single heatsink on it, so I came up with a better solution. Look back a few posts to see my solution.
