New problems with my MF on mF1004 and back to 65nm CPU. I jusr removed my new Q9450 to go back to E6750 for more testing. I did leave mobo socket open all day so may have got dust in socket or something because I didn't do anything othet then remove Q9450 and mount E6750 to same mobo/RAM on BETA BIOS 1004 wich had worked fine with each E6750, Q6600 and just recently Q9450 and now I have weird issues. System had lots of DET_RAM issues and even w/ swapped out OCZ Platinum (wich have worked in every ASUS mobo I had for past 3 yrs.

Two things were happening. 1st, I can poke around in CMOS for so long before BIOS would just lock up, cant change anything. This happened on various profiles even auto and default. Next after doing that for a few times, it then locked in a looped cycle of restarts, intermediate power off, pause, then attempt to power on and just as PWR and aux fans start to spin, it restarts and does this for several times (10+) then hangs on DET_RAM again.

I eventually got the failed checkrom menue but wasnt prepared so had to get PSP and Afudos to flash. So I figured I'd go for new 1201 since I had to flash. It was just as bad in the DET_RAM issues and hit or miss if it'd let me enter CMOS. looped restart was gone for now.

I decided to go back to 1004 since I knew it had worked before (same exact file I got few months back to use) and back to same thing again. Hanging at CPU_INT and restarting.

Anybody willing to repond to my question? Even if just an idea.

    Thankx in advance if so.

I think the Maximus does better with 5-5-5-15 RAM, rather than with running 5-5-5-12 RAM. (Especially if running 8GB's)

OK, so it's been a few months now. Who can say they found a worthy 2x 2g RAM kit to hold 1151 - 1200MHz on our MF? Any new resualts on the OCZ FLEX II for above rated 1151MHz?

I've been using the 2 x 2GB Flex II for a couple of weeks now, my set works well to 1200MHz and a little more if I really push them.
You absolutely need the Rampage BIOS to run them that fast, without the option to adjust clock skew they would not climb over 1100MHz.

Here's several ss of the Flex II @ 1200MHz, different FSB/strap/dividers.
Running 4Gb @ this speed on the Maximus/Rampage comes down to NB stability, you may have to adjust the skew and/or NB voltage differently. It all depends on how good your NB is and the FSB your trying to run.

This the set up for 400 x 9.5 on the 266 strap, but you can use whatever you need to for your CPU, the important thing is the timings and the skew.

ok guys, first, I just installed my maximus formula(from abit ip35-e) and have the rampage bios installed. have not re-installed vista, everything seems to be okay without a fresh install.

first question: speedfan is jacked, all over the place. is this b/c i'm running rampage bios on maximus or b/c i need a fresh os install?

second question: if speedfan just has trouble b/c of the bios, what temp monitor program should i use? i was using core temp for cpu cores and speedfan for pwm and northbridge.

lastly: what are the actual benefits of running the rampage bios on the maximus?

thanks! you have no idea how excited i am about the board. my q6600 g0 was limited to a 3.42 on my abit ip35-e with a hot pwm and northbridge with only 1.395 bios volts to get there. hoping to change all that.

    I've never used Speedfan

The Rampage BIOS adds a number of adjustments over the Maximus, like skew and easy PL setting.

OK, somebody needs to explain this, if possible:

    With Rampage conversion:

    Flashed back to Maximus:

    Settings are the same?????

    CPU: i5 750 @ 4Ghz w/Corsair CWCH70
RAM: 4x 2GB Corsair Dominator sticks at 1600Mhz

    Case: Lian Li PC75
    PSU: ANTEC 850W

You should have compared chipset settings between versions in Everest as well.

It's more then likely a advanced memory timing that has changed. I mentioned earlier in the thread the fact the they changed Tref from 0308 to0401 rampage BIOS which made 0401 bandwidth less for example. I would assume this or another timing is different from the maximus to rampage you tried.

That is pretty significant and judging by latency I would say it's not Tref, but Trd(Performance Level). What was your transaction booster settings for each BIOS(i.e Performace level, boost level)

Post a screenshot of the chipset tab of Everest.

I'll go take a shot, do the flash to Rampage, and do the same.

Thanks for your input! It had me a bit concerned as I'm sure you can imagine! I thought it was pretty significant too

OK, it was definitely Performance Level, it was on 8 on the Rampage by default, and 5 on the Maximus. There is one other setting, it's Read Delay Phase Adjust, but I cannot seem to find it in the BIOS. On Maximus it's +1, on Rampage it's Neutral currently, and I'm still seeing about 100MB/sec slower on Rampage....

Read delay phase adjust I would think is the pull in's under transaction booster in Rampage BIOS.

I have to look at notes real quick. I have been working on the 780i for last week and the Perfomance Level Pull In's are slipping my mind right now....Nvidia chipset on my mind not Intel

Read delay phase adjust I would think is the pull in's under transaction booster in Rampage BIOS.

I have to look at notes real quick. I have been working on the 780i for last week and the Perfomance Level Pull In's are slipping my mind right now....Nvidia chipset on my mind not Intel

Yup, definitely. I enabled pull-in on all of them, which gave me +7T and it's now 100MB/sec faster than the Maximus was. It did manage to hit 8606 on one test, but I foolishly didn't save it.

So, here's what we started out with:

    Maximus:

    Rampage:

And then after pulling in those settings:

Now I guess I need to run memtest on it...... Verify she's "safe"
    Board: ASUS P7P55D-E
    CPU: i5 750 @ 4Ghz w/Corsair CWCH70
RAM: 4x 2GB Corsair Dominator sticks at 1600Mhz
    Video: ASUS ATI Radeon 5870
    Case: Lian Li PC75
    PSU: ANTEC 850W
    Linux: Fedora Core 14 x86_64
Windows: Windows 7 Pro x64 for the odd game.

Heh...see you didn't need my help at all you got it all figured out.

I'm suprised you were able to pull in all of the phases despite the low FSB, usually you only pull in one or two, if you pulled all of them in you bascially have changed the performance level to 4. If it's unstable for some reason go back and pull in less phases. Everyone keeps asking what the difference is between the Rampage and Formula BIOS and really you just played with it. Setting performance level directly without having to do the math of strap/transaction booster enable-disable/boost level in maximus and the abilty to adjust pull in directly.

Looking at you settings some other little tweaks to try are

Write Recovery Twr to 11 at least lower to 12
Read to Precharge Trtp to 4 maybe even 3
Write to Precharge Twtp to 11 at least lower to 12
Tref to 16383 should add a little more to your bandwidth

What BIOS revision was you using for the RF? Assuming 0403 and 1201 for MF, I am unable to replicate your situation. Can you explain what your PL was and if you had any pull-ins? And what are you using now for transaction booster? What are/were your clock twister settings?

Fixed it can not enter the setup of some PCI-Express SATAII RAID Card

    2.
    Maximus Formula 1201 Bios
    Improve Memory compatibility

    the 2 is a BETA.
