[QUOTE=003;3024174]This is XTREME systems for christ's sake!! QUOTE]

I thought XTREME means extreme overclocking via extreme methods. I don't know where the buying only the highest end hardware comes from, extreme lack of common sense? I dunno, I'm just guessing. I thought overclocking started from buying the lowest end hardware and achieving or even surpassing what the manufacturer has to offer at the high end. It all began with overclocking Celerons...
    Asus Rampage Formula X48
    Intel Q9650 @ 4.33GHZ
    OCZ Platinum DDR2-800
    Palit 4870x2
    Creative Xi-Fi Extreme Music
    Corsair HX1000
    LL 343B Case
    Thermochill 120.3
    2xMCP355
    KL 350AT
    KL 4870X2 FC WB

Agreed. For me overclocking means raping cheap hardware.

    QX9650 ~ 850 euro
Asus Maximus Extreme ~ 250 euro
    9800GX2 ~ 450 euro

Abit IP35 Pro, q6600 from ebay @ 3.6ghz and an 8800gt that cost 350 euro giving greater CPU performance and similar gaming performance? ~ PRICELESS!!!

If you don't, no need to be in this thread then, as current cards play all older games fine...

So this thread is for gamers, right?

You don't want to answer that one.

I am. People are telling how PC gaming is dying, blaming consoles about it but then they whine how the current hardware can't run games which are "ruined because of consoles" etc. Makes me very confused.

QFT all the way. theres nothing more satisfying that getting more performance on budget parts. call me old skool

anyway, these ATI cards look nice. if the price is right and numbers hold true, it might be worth an upgrade.

Generally to do extreme overclocking you'll need some extreme grade hardware, as in a phase change single stage or better, ln2/dice tubes, proper insulation, etc. You can set a world record with performance grade hardware, but I don't consider air or water cooling extreme by any means

    depends on the watercooling

getting some insane clocks with ghetto cooling is xtreme too

xtreme is to clock your stuff to the limits, no matter how much $$ you can spend on the hardware or the cooling, it has nothing to do with the hardware you can buy, overclocking some low end cpu to the limit is just as extreme as doing this with a high end one.

the closer you get to the limit of what you have the more extreme it is

the new cooler drawing for the 4870X2 is interesting, maybe they really changed the way the x2 is working (integrating a switch into the gpus???, giving them a pciex8 2.0 interface for direct interconnect/better syncing???)
