Well that's nice stuff to come back to guys. While the Quiches bake I thought I'd pimp this out a bit more:
I completed the wiring, cut a piece of mirror, made some braces to attach feet and put in a switch.
Ready to roll.
And that's it...really. I packed it just so I would not start messing around with it any more...
About viscous fluid: I agree that would be more realistic.
Not that there is anyone clammoring for 1/1000th scale volcanos or anything...but I would like to make another that is a stand-alone piece with it's own lil pump and that would allow for a gooey fluid...there are a variety of transparent thickening agents...
But observing some of the effects possible with ujnderlighting reminded me of a theatrical lighting device popular in the in the 1920s..an Illumnia.
It was a simple device: usally a large glass bowl of a great radius so as to be more of a lense filled with water. An attendant would "play" the Illumnia with a wooden paddle something like a salad fork to set up a series of standing waves in the bowl...a lamp (usually an arc light but it could be any light source) below the bowl would use the bowl of rippling water as a sort of Fresnel lense that usally had a lot of dimensionality and rainbows. I experimented with one of these and you can basically fill a room with a sort of wallpaper of light that appears to go in and out of focus...great stuff. WHatever they were on back in the Twenties was some good.
Anyway a lot of times these lighting apparatus included a large mirror on an adjustable frame so as to project this pattern of light on a rear projection screen or whatever...to some dramatic effect.
I have also seen one with a mechanized color wheel of various gels...
SO something using those principle in a reservoir would be interesting to me...an Illumnia reservoir that projects light patterns on a frosted/etched front for instance...verrry Star Trek...
