Hi guys,

upcoming P45 boards will have between 2 and 4 PCIe slots, including 2 running individually at x16. But when these 2 will run together in a crossfire configuration, they will do x8 lanes. So my question is, when compared to X48 that supports full x16 lanes with two cards, is that a limitation that we've got here on the P45 in terms of performance, or doesn't it matter at all? I know there was also something called "crosslinx" on some ROG cards bringing back things to 2 x 8 lanes, for more stability (sic)...anyone with knowledge on the topic would be much appreciated. Two 16x lanes are theoretically faster than two 8x lanes. Are they in practice? I dunno. If you're running this configuration [2x Video with 16x], you should use an X48 board, not a P45. The P45 isn't marketed at the SLI/crossfire extreme gamer as the X48 is actually.

just what I was thinking. But as reviews and even threads here @XS describe the P45 as future high-end boards (like the Maximus II Formula or P5Q3), I was wondering. I know Intel themselves considered P35 as mainstream when it came out, as opposed to 975X, X38 or X48. Must be the same for P45. Still, P45 will have some features that X48 doesn't: new ICH controller etc...
