Exclamation Question about pump placement in a different direction

Hey guys! I am almost done with my water cooling setup (finally) Well i have a question that i am not sure of, and that is would it be fine to mount the pump a different way rather than having it directly on the actual foot part? I thought that my Swiftech MCP655-B pump had the inlet at the top and the outlet on the side. So i made an a L bracket, and tilted the pump in a different angle to have the inlet facing upwards towards the reservoir, and the outlet at the radiator. would this be somewhat of a performance hit at all?

Here are some pictures to have a better idea:

The inlet is located on the side of the pump, the outlet is on top. The only position it isn't allowed in is inlet down. I believe performance is best when the inlet is on top and the outlet is on the side, but it won't be noticeable.

That's what i thought too, and that is why i had to mount it a different way, are there pumps that come stock with the inlet at the top and outlet on the side? Also what do other people think of what i exactly did, would i necessarily have any problems in the long run?

I don't believe it could harm anything.

A DDC with an aftermarket top has the inlet on top.

Hey guys, i just finished the tubing, and i wanted to make sure, is there any need for the little wire that is connected to the pump besides the obvious 4 pin molex. I dont know what the little 3 pin of the pump is really used for, if anyone could explain that would be great, thanks.

RPM monitor, hook it to your cpu fan header, that way if your pump dies, you can have your mb shutdown your pc.

That's an RPM sensor. You can connect it up to the fan header on the motherboard to monitor if the pump is working.

Thanks so much guys, it's working fine though right now, i'm letting the system bleed as of right now and the reservoir is making somewhat of a tycoon in the middle of the it, is this alright for bleeding?

You mean typhoon, or vortex? it's fine, as long as it's not sucking the air bubbles down too. If it is, then you'll have to slow your pump down, (you don't have the vario do you?). Put it on a pot, or get something to kill the vortex. What res do you have?

I have the EK Res 150 Reservoir, and the pump is the Swiftech MCP655-B pump, i am not sure if this pump could have the pressure adjusted or not.

yeah, it's fine as long as the vortex doesn't go all the way down. (sucking air back in) EK has a anti-cyclon to do away with that. Here Order from them, or from where you got your res.

No the -B doesn't and when I put 2 and 2 together (rpm sensor) I realized that pump wasn't the vario.

Cool thanks a lot for the help! It says on the site the anti cyclone, doesn't work for the multioption 100, does that apply for the 100 series or just the 100. I have the EK-Multioption 150m so im not sure that will be fine for it.

You res is making a rich guy?....HOW COOL IS THAT?

Sorry, just having a little fun.

No need to buy the anti-cyclone crap, all it takes is ~3" (maybe a bit more depending on how restrictive your loop is/isn't) of un-used tubing placed in the return side of the res...like so.

To answer your question, yes it will work on the 150. (see the stand offs for it? the two vertical tabs it slides into)

    It's $3.50 at Petra's

    But listen to Waterlogged.

I had the same problem with my first setup so I made a bracket to mount it any way you want. It actually worked so well I decided to make some extra. Petra's sells them as the (UN)Designs 360 pump bracket. It isn't a problem to mount it differently than stock, in fact I never liked the stock bracket. By the way it looks like your bracket is doing a good job.
