    Thanks for the reply unclewebb.

    I'll admit the testing I did last night was not very scientific. I could do some more with more specific guidelines and take some screenies for you.

    1.08v with 1.2 vcore? I would expect that being on a quad will give me higher temps than a dual core anyway.

    I tested my 65nm Quad as well. At my standard of 266x6 ~ 1600 MHz and 1.08 volts with the case open and my Tuniq fan on high I get reported core temperatures about 6C to 7C above room temperature. With a 45nm or 65nm dual core, it's more like 4C or 5C. There's not a lot of difference.

    If you set your processor to default MHz and enable C1E in the bios, it should drop the MHz and voltage to similar values to the above. Usually about 1.15 volts if your board is not ignoring the request from the CPU to lower the voltage. Always use CPU-Z to confirm your bios settings if you use C1E. A couple of hundred MHz one way or the other doesn't make much of a difference but it's good to have the core voltage as low as possible to minimize the heat output.

    These are just rough estimates for setting up the calibration factors to get you close to the actual temperature. If you had two of the same model of processor and you calibrated them both like this, you should have very comparable temperatures for them at the same idle specs or at the same load, regardless of what motherboard you are using.

    Ok.

    Well my 45m quad would probably perform in and around the same area then. So I'll try that model that you used of 266x6 and 1.08v tonight and see what temps are like.

    I am on water, so I would expect the delta to be smaller between idle and load, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    With water you'll have to compare your core temperature to your water temperature so give it some time to stabilize. I don't have any experience with water but I've seen some tests where you actually get better idle temps with a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme.

    I just did a quick test with my Q6600 - G0. I usually head downstairs but decided to give it a try upstairs where the temperature beside the open computer was 21C and in front of the computer it was closer to 20C. The side panel was off but it's sitting beside a desk so airflow isn't perfect. I'm using calibration factors of 1,1,2,1 which typically has this processor within +/- a degree or two at idle. Here are the results:

    Average core temperature was 26C and room temperature is about 20C to 21C.

    Beta days are here again, just in time for the weekend.

    http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip

    The MHz window works on RT2.51 but it is not presently compatible with SetFSB. That feature is disabled at the moment but everything else should work.

    Inside the zip file is a new INI file which hopefully explains some of the new features well enough for you to figure out. Enjoy and keep it quiet so my previous file server doesn't complain too much.

    Awsome, thank you very much unclewebb.

    Read the INI file and set both cores in the tool tray plus used black text, I love it!

    I just tried it under Vista Ultimate, and the application didn't start due to winring0.dll not found. The version I am currently running is 2.2, and it still is working well.

    I do like your app! Keep up the fine job.

    You have to use the WinRing0 files from your previous install. I've noticed they aren't included with the beta versions.

    Hmm... I don't have any water temp sensors installed (this is my first LC build and it was tough enough without adding sensors etc)

    Still, you've given me a pretty decent guideline.

    Temps in my room are around 18-19*C

    I'm good with a rough estimate of temps, as long as they give me a ballpark so I know I'm not frying my chip.

    I'll run a test of those speeds with those volts and see what I get.

    I'll start by assuming that you are not presently using an Idle calibration factor. My testing was at 1.08 volts (core) so at 1.20 volts, my numbers aren't directly comparable to yours.

    Your choice of motherboard shouldn't really effect your core temperatures as the DTS sensors are within the CPU and will read the same no matter what motherboard you put it in as long as everything else like voltage and cooling are the same.

    During testing I also have an open case to reduce other heat sources including a hot graphics card or two.

    Are you using the same cooler on both? If so then I would suggest an Idle setting of about -1 or -2. When the new version of RealTemp comes out then you could be a good candidate for Idle=-1.5

    I managed to sneak a couple of more features in while the boss wasn't looking.

    In the tray you can choose whether you want to look at the Minimum, the Maximum, the current Core Temperature or even the Average temperature since starting the program or hitting the Reset button. Does the competition have any features like that? I don't think so!
    Should it show all four core temps (Q6600)? Mine only shows one temp.

    Ok unclewebb, here's a screenie of my test tonight. Any recommendations on how to set up?

    We're talking nice low volts and nice low speed. I let it sit for about 30 minutes to make sure the water temps levelled out.

    from the .ini file

    ;IconShow= lets you determine what core temperatures will show up in the
    ;tool tray area. The following values can be combined so you can display
    ;whatever core or cores you wish to see.
    ; core0 = 1, core1 = 2, core2 = 4, core3 = 8
    ;To display core1 and core2 only, you would add 2 + 4 and set IconShow=6
    ;IconShow=0 would show no cores in the Tool Tray. To show all 4 cores of
    ;a Quad core processor in the tool tray you would add up all of the factors
    ; (1 + 2 + 4 + 8 = 15) so you would need to use IconShow=15
    IconShow=1

    zlojack: First thing I notice is that core0 is likely stuck at 39. With one core stuck then I start to question core2 and core3 which might also be stuck. If you go back to default MHz of 3000 and about 1.2 volts you should try running the Test Sensors feature and see what it says. There's no way you can accurately calibrate a sensor if it is sticking at low temperatures. The sensor in core1 might be the only one you can trust at idle. For that one, an Idle1=-1 setting should get you pretty close.

    You still seem to have a lot of background processes running. I'm not overly familiar with Vista but 59 processes in XP is at least twice as many as you need. A bunch of junk running in the background makes your computer work and create heat which can throw off your test results. If you can turn some of those off that would be great.

    The first thing you need to do is to try and prove what sensors are working.

    Try running your computer at idle for a minute and then run Prime on all 4 cores for a minute or two and then go back to idle for a minute. Turn on the Logging feature before you start and then Copy and Paste the log into a message and PM it to me. Set the LogInterval=1 so it creates lots of data. Try it at 1600 MHz and then at default MHz as well. Looking at a pile of numbers can help me understand your processor a lot more than just looking at a single screen shot.

    Thanks everyone for all the and positive responses. I'm pretty happy too with the progress made this week. Any comments or suggestions are always appreciated. I'll probably go in and create a second page in the near future where adjustments and settings can be made more easily within the program itself so users won't have to mess around with INI file editing any more.

    Thanks emoners. I thought my docs were pretty clear. I understand though when a new version comes along that users get so excited they don't have time to read all the details!

    Evidently I'm not smart enough to figure this out. Here are a few images that shows v2.51 and v2.5.

    Can you guess which icon is Real Temp v2.51? The following two images used these INI settings.

    StartMinimized=1
    TaskBar=1
    IconShow=1

    Just to prove that I'm not going crazy I included the Real Temp v2.5.

    Am I using the correct INI settings? If I put the cursor over the mail icon I get the Core0 and Core1 temperatures.

    Nice, legible block font for the temps in the tray. Easier to read than CoreTemp, at least on my display.

    And, the full spec now appears for my CPU. Instead of Intel Quad, it says Intel Quad QX6700.

    Equality at last!

    hi
    it's a neat software to measure temperature!
    but i was wondered why that i get same temps with 4 different softwares at same time ! (pics are below) and you are saying that RealTemp shows Temps a a lot different
    is my cpu so compatible with different softwares?

    btw i've just started thinking that my sensors have some problem since i've changes cpu hsf my last hsf was Thermaltake Blue Orb II and now is CoolerMaster Sphere which looks very different and a lot better than Blue Orb II but i get almost same idle temp as Blue Orb II
    btw unlike Blue Orb II it doesn't go further than 60c on load therefore i think it should be cooler on idle logically !

    i have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 B2 and my room temp is around 26c
    can someone certain me about my sensor?!
    and what are those check boxes ?
    also i've add these properties to RealTemp.ini
    Idle0=1
    Idle1=2
    Idle2=1
    Idle3=2

    and i get around 2 or 3 degrees more ...

    I have the app set open in the notification tray and show four cores but I only get four green icons, not text.
    Hovering over the first icon pops up a window with all four core temps displayed, over the others it just says "core 1", "core 2", etc.

    How can I get text to display instead of the icons?
