ASUS P5B-Deluxe; Problems & Fixes

Wow, uh, it was as simple as booting with one stick, shutting it down, and then putting the second stick in... now it seems to be working. I had thought I already tried that, but I guess not.. whatever it is, seems to be working now. Is this a unique problem with P5Bs or what?

try one at a time and memtest them

im sure ones bad you should get errors lil while after it starts ive had 3 rma's

Before, you never completely cleared the bios.

mine always works by turning off the psu let the ASUS light go out the back on everytime

but when it doesnt turn on, its back off take a stick out it boots then memtest ends up showing errors on one which wont boot when you get an OC that didnt boot

and you'll end up getting error in windows

so its best to test the mem to see if ones getting errors

That works most of the time. That is what I do also. But sometimes I found and have seen, you need to take the battery out. If you do, it is probably best to remove the power connector from the motherboard first. Or, do the quick tech me tech method of pushing the power button. Sometimes the CPU fan may even rotate a little.

its always worked like that for me, if it doesnt the mem went bad

on my psu it has the power switch so I dont have to pull the plug

and ive have taken out the batt. but it ended up bing the mem that didnt let it boot

I dont have a CPU fan my ocz ram cooler on it but I might try see if they spin

Hey guys, long time reader very infrequent poster...

I just flashed my board to the 1232 BIOS - and it's fixed some issues I was having, and ultimately saved me from having to buy a new mobo!

Firstly, my Q9300 CPU wasn't detected properly on 1226 - even tho it was fully functional and ran perfectly fine, I was getting that cute msg about needing a BIOS update to unleash its full potential. Since I had previously noted the Q9450 was supported in v1226, I assumed the Q93 would be too. Evidently the Asus CPU supports page stated that wasn't the case.

And also, I was having trouble with a set of Ballistix Tracers PC6400 2x2Gb sticks to run outside of SPD. At 400Mhz, SPD set timings at 5-6-6-18 but when I manually set 5-6-6-18 in BIOS it refused to boot... no matter the Vdimm, no matter the frequency... let alone the 4-4-4-12 that the RAM was rated at.

This new BIOS fixed it all! I'm now running at the stability limits of my Q93 on 965 (@415Mhz FSB), the RAM isn't breaking a sweat at 4-4-4-12 at a mere 2.0Vdimm.

It's great that Asus still think it important enough to continue supporting this board, even tho it's long since EOL and there are a generation or two of newer products on the market. Thank you Asus, I'm a fanboi for life!

For my part OC fail no post>>>>turn off PSU wait till Mobo goes off.......power up with NO power for 10~20secs..........try powering up with PSU on usually works.

Once I had a major issue had to clr Cmos & battery off..........wouldn't boot: took out G card and unhooked all power to the mobo...........waited for 20mns and rehooked everything reinstalled G card etc: booted to default and resumed OC from saved OC profile

Several things........keep the PCI low if you want to boot back to windows screen easily (100's max)
sometimes the pb is the VGA card and not the OC or Mobo or Ram.

Remember to turn off PSU when nothing else helps.

In cas of high OC fail keep the strp low......1:1 etc

however i'm still on bios 1004 (happily OC ing and pushing and 24/7 using this mobo) and never found a clue if 1232 (latest bios.......beta i think )is much better

I think for now i'll stick to what I am certain of.

Has anyoe got this Mobo to work correctly with a Xeon E3110?
Because Bios 1226 and 1232 don't support it correctly here. Doesn't allow for manual voltage adjustments on anything (it won't boot afterwards).
There are other quirks as well...

I have a Xeon 3350 in my mobo I know you have to reboot it from stock the first time then you cant set the v-core but thats which mine

also when I get a bad check sum it wont let me move the v-core untill i reboot

Why you erase the bios version?
