Is it just me, or was that guy getting some bad idle temps?
My rs1283 sits at 35c idle with a q6600 at 3.7, and I have only gotten it to hit 62c in occt.

Well it may be caused by his poor airflow through his case ;o

As the Q6600 has almost biggest TDP of the CPUs and the Xigmatek S1283 is almost the best air cooler (well the TRUE is still better) it is ok to use them together. You can always go for TRUE with a good fan but the Xigmatek cost like half of it

well i own both the true and the xig.. i was debating which one to use. the true i have is used and has a bit of bent fins and i need to get a new fan for it. but i lapped the bottom and that part appears new. my xig is still new in the box, so i figured id use that if i had issues with the true..... im just now torn on what cpu to get... a e8x00 series or a q6x00 series.. arghhhhhhh

Well it depends on what you do. If you only play games get the e8x00. If you do some 3d rendering or convertin movies I'd pick q6600

Absolutely.
It's one of the best you can get in my opinion.

for the price of a true you can get the 1283 and the extreme turbine fan with money left to burn.
I have that fan on mine now and it smokes the red scorpion fan.

Makes a very nice difference on top of an already great setup.

Does anyone know when the Xigmatek HSF will be available in Australia?

Also, what would be the realistic buy price.

The disadvantage of being on the "other side of the world" is not the price we can get the goods from overseas (exchange rate), but the horrific cost of postage, etc.

For example, this Cooler could cost more in postage to be delivered to me from USA or Europe, than the cost of the cooler itself.

(Just a winge!)

Since I will be using an E8400 CPU, the S1283 is probably just as good and possibly cheaper and definitely available now in australia.

Love how the two heatpipes in the edges won't really touche the CPU, and thus are rather "useless" there. Sure the heat transfers from the plate the are soldered to, but the whole "direct touch technology" is being wasted by some 35% there. Great job. Other than that it seems good overall, but not really an improvement nor a new king.

There's a new review out on the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 HDT CPU Cooler, and it appears that it's good... but not that good. It's compared to the TRUE, Vendetta 2, and HDT-S1283.

Good idea. It's not a bad cooler, so long as you want more fashion than function, but it's got some flaws. The Crossbow mounting system was used for all coolers, even the HDT-S1283.

Hi All,

Based on the 2 reviews I have read, I think that the new achillies is really meant for a larger die CPU, possibly an AMD. But its staggered heat pipes and the thick Aluminium strips between them, waste a good percentage of cooling capacity if you stick this HSF cooller on a Intel E8400 CPU, as I will be doing.

Therefore, I think the S1283 is actually a better product for the E8400.

What do others think?
