Exclamation Patriot Vipers (PVS22G9600ELK) PC2-9600 Ockward Results

After seeing a few awesome reviews on these sticks, I decided to get a pair.

However, reaching the rated 1200mhz default rating has been challenging. Actually, anything past 1000mhz seems to end up without post.

Also, CPU-Z reports pc-6400 as maximum bandwith, and each stick has different rated timings

I'm currently using an Asus Rampage Formula Bios 0219 official.

Anybody have any experiences or tips? Thanks.

Here is a benchmark on mostly auto settings, other than 1:1 ratio.

Not bad at all, but getting these sticks at 1200mhz would be nice

those sticks are for P35, 780i only, hence your issues. It's right on the package. I had a set that wasn't stable at all on X38(errors @ 800mhz 5-5-5-15, 2.2v even), 1280 mhz no problem on MSI P35 and ASUS P5K tho.

But on a thread in the patriot forums, one user asked about compatibility with a maximus and partiot claimed they had no issues testing certain x38 boards, they did state that they haven't' tested the maximus though.

Then you best contact them directly, as thier sites list those sticks only good for the chipsets I mentioned...and my findings with my sticks agree with that.

When they respond, let me know...I have had lots of issues with patriot ram and maximus...not just the 9600's.

It's a darn shame that these sticks don't natively work well with rampage/maximus.

They are one of the fastest kits on the net today! and man are they ever fast...
I'm going to try a few more settings but if i cannot stabilize, guess i'll go crucial billistix 8500's

of course. but SPD seems set for the boards mentioned. AFAIK they only use Micron IC's for all sticks ATM.

    Exclamation !

I have exchanged my first set of vipers for a 2nd set.

The timings are now the same per stick, so I think i got a bad batch on the first kit.

Switching from the blue slots to the white slots has given me way more headroom, now at 1164mhz 5:6 ratio 485 FSB!

Here are my results, and I have also moved this thread/into to HERE

Patriots SPD is completely messed up. Either you corrupted it somehow, either Patriots QC is really bad.

    compatibility

It does NOT say p35 and 680i "only", it says it's been tested and passed with those chipsets.

the 9600 vipers use Micron D9's so if D9s are QVL in your mobo manual, they should be compatible.

so far at 1164mhz 5:6 ratio, no errors, no crashing, no problems.

Anyone using the 4gb 8500 vipers? I tempted to move from my 4x1Gb config to a 2x2Gb setup but I need close to DDR2 1150/1200 to make it worth it.

No offense, dude, but 61.9sec latency? I get 61.5 without trying 400fsb, mem @ 533mhz, 5-5-5-15 on X38. That's why you get those clocks...

No offense taken. I know this is high, but even if I run at lower freq, like say 533, I still get the same latency. I'm only a few months into this. How could I try reduce the latency?

"That's why you get those clocks..." Explain please?

OP cannot get his to 1200mhz..me either. Your results are due to using 680i/780i(which is the intended platform for these DIMMs).

    4-4-4-12 1200mhz isn't every-day clocking. Not on Intel chipsets.

YEs/no. real-world, not really, benches it will have an effect.

I pull 10.5k+ on X38 @ 510 4-4-4-12, so it affects bandwidth a bit. It's the chipset tho, not really anything you are doing wrong.

I just cut my FSB back to 441 (3970 Mhz),RAM at 601.6 and the latency drops to 48, bandwidth increases to 11184, but no diff in 3DMark...

Lowest possible latency. Anything over 450 FSB increases the latency to 64+.
