#EDIT:
Woah wtf, I just saw the 8xxx tri-core Phenoms this morning.. now it's saying deactivated item for them all?
It looks like the new Tri-cores are B3 though, with the 8x50 naming.

Yeah Newegg pulled em for some reason! Other sites still show em in stock tho strange. Very interested in how they clock and what kinda heat they produce compared to quad.

I thought the Toliman Tri-cores were made from defect B2 quad-cores though. It seems that the 8x50 are B3 tri-cores.

Phenom 8750 reviewed at Hot Hardware:
http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/...e%5FProcessor/
They got it up to 3GHz on stock cooling, and contrary to early tri-core (p)reviews showing no difference in quad and tri-core power consumption, it does consume significantly less power than a quad.
Neat! Thanks for the link! Even consumes less power then a 6400+ under load WOAH! To bad they didnt include the 3.0 results for comparison sake! I'd like to know a power comparison of the Triple at 3.0 vs 6400+ as well.

I have a x3 8750 at home for a review.
Cpu is fully stable at 3 ghz with stock cooling and stock vcore of 1.2 volt. I ran all benchmarks at this speed, including crysis.

Seems Tolimans are good OCs,i even dare to say very good.
If you find an 8x00 online or in a HP or Dell box, those were the B2s. Big box rigs are nearly impossible to OC leaving little change the TLB issue will appear. You are right the 8x50s are B3.
I wonder if amd took B2s had four working cores but with one week core turned off the weak core and rebadged it as a 8x00 trike at a higher clock. That would route a large portion of the duds into the trike line where the TLB issue would be almost nil. This would be a good move allowing AMD to recover the loses. They have a 3 year warranty with the stock cooler which in the end is a good deal for store boxen.

So far looking good. I suspect prices will drop a tad over the next few weeks. The lower power usage, decent performance and overclocking prowness still make it compelling even at its current price point.

Tri-core isn't a bad idea but the prices are not very attractive at this moment.
The 8750 is insane, $195 for a 2.4GHz 3-core when for the same price I could have a 2.2GHz Quad or for $20 more a 2.4GHz quad? Not to mention Q6600 @ $220.
The 8450 is priced better, but it is still a bad option. For the same price you can get a X2 5600+ from AMD or an E7200 from Intel, both of which will outperform it. That's not to mention you can get a 2.8GHz X2 5400+ for <$100 that will outperform it 95% of the time as well.
AMD doesn't need to lower prices by much, they need to have a small price reduction along with higher frequency parts. If Phenom 8950 @ 2.6GHz was selling for $170, 8750 @ 2.4GHz for $145, and 8650 @ 2.3GHz for maybe $130, then the lineup would be much more attractive.
At this point, the Tri-cores are for OEMs where the marketing aspect of 3-cores vs 2, decent prices, and the AMD platform will help sell them. But to people looking to build their own system, they are not worth considering at current prices.
Well they did just come out and anything new tends to be inflated eh?
Also I'll bet once you overclock a triple to 2.8-3.0 or so it would probably eat an x2 < 3.2 even in single threaded benchies no?
I like the fact that they lower the overall power/heat envelope more then the quads while still letting you sample the new IPC as well.
Personally i suspect these will clock higher then quads to a degree once xtreme doods get hold of em. Thats just me hunch anyway.![]()

My X2 sucks so I wish they would make the prices reasonable.
E7200 @ 4.0ghz 1.29vcore

I agree about the pricing of the "high end" parts.
My local store (ncix.com) has the x4 9850 for 249CDN and a Q6600 for 229CDN,
has to be the other way around.

Hmmm thanks for the linky Music! Very good info's indeed. The Triple pretty much pwns x2's at 3g's even in the single threaded arena.
Also glad someone can confirm the Triples may have higher clocking potential then the quadsMight have to pick one up next month or so =) Ive already bought 2 cpu's in one month so i have to chill for a few weeks haha.

I might be picking up one of these bad boys soonSelling the C2D rig and upgrading the 2nd rig most likely. (see sig)

Xigmatek Utgard Case - Corsair VX550
An X2 5600+ does not outperform the 8450 most of the time actually. THe 8450 does pretty well even at its lower clockspeed. As for the E7200, there are higher clocked batches of dual core Phenoms coming June/July that should compete with those.Originally Posted by Extelleron
