I think he confused the ringbus w/ the memoryinterface.
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T@3.5GHz@Scythe Mugen 2 <-> ASRock 970 Extreme4 <-> 8GB DDR3-1333 <-> Sapphire HD7870@1100/1300 <-> Samsung F3 <-> Win8.1 x64 <-> Acer Slim Line S243HL <-> BQT E9-CM 480W

    More than likely.

256BIT or 512BIT or 502394340BIT, it's going to be wasted bandwidth if the architecture is still weak with AA/AF enabled.

    LOL, that's 320Gbps... marketing wet dreams ?
    Someone might think that a HD2600XT with 512BIT BUS and GDDR5-5000 ( 2500MHz ) would rock got a clue ?

Do you think HD4850 will match or beat 8800GT ??

    what about HD4870 will beat HD3870X2 ??

If I were in the marketing division I'd suggest a 2GB or 4GB card if possible, because that would sell more that 984818919GB/s of mem bandwidth

    HD4870 vs HD3870X2... no, I don't think the HD4870 will outperform the 3870X2.
If it comes close to it, that would be great, and the HD4870X2 would have a decent advantage over the 3870X2 then.

If they get the cards to perform well with AA & AF, then they'd have something good for the mid-range and mainstream sector which would be good for AMD's economy.

    We'll find out soon

I bet he misinterprited it as a 512bit ringbus like how the r600's was 1024 bit by that reasoning. If that was the case, why would they even bother with gddr5? That would drive up prices for no gain (at least no useful gain)

I have a crazy question - will the 4870 work in crossfire with a 3870?

That would be awesome if it would!

Seriously, were are very close to the launch date and we don't even know the real specs. Let alone benchmarks. Is ATI trying to hide anything?

Compared to the RV670, sure it's good. I want to compare them against NV cards.

Of course ati's trying to hide something, best way for them to scare Nvidia right now is to keep them guessing, if you look back with the r600, the same tactic worked (nvidia was planning price cuts and g90 when the r600 was still a mysterious monster) until ati released benchmarks

After reading the tgdaily article, I have a feeling ATI will do away with the 4850 cards until the end of the year, and only release the 4870 right now.

The reasoning for this is simple. Even the lowest clocked 4850 would end up faster than the fastest 3870 due to the difference in specs (320 vs 480 SPs and 16 TMU vs 32 TMUs). Though this represents a new generation, they've come far too soon after the 3800 series.

Unless ATI will strategically make 3800s EOL on 4800 launch or make huge price cuts on them, the 4850 512mb will end up being an insane deal, one which will take away a great number of sales from the 4870, seeing as, at launch, there will be a very small amount of bad-clocking 4870s and 4850s may just be underclocked 4870s. Though I imagine ATI thought that through which is why they are offering GDDR5 to convince people to make the extra investment; would make a lot of sense.

The product will keep the aggressive pricing in place, and, according to our sources, will scale much better than 3870 X2.

So far, it looks like the R700 (dual R770XT) will be priced at $499. And a single R770XT will be like $299. OUCH.

It has to be lower than that or Nvidia will bury ATi this summer with GT200 chips. Well, at least it makes sense that ATI wants to capitalize on those prices until the GT200 comes out maybe 1 month later in June, I guess...

Personally, I aint getting nothing to replace my 8800GTX until the R700 drops down below $300, or if the GT200 is gonna be worth every penny. Some rumors say that Nvidia might do weird stuff like releasing different cards in increments over the months (like the 8800GT, GTS512, 9800GTX, but with bigger differences)---argh, that would drive my impatient nuts NUTS!
