HehI think you win the award for the most broken sensors on a 45nm processor.
unclewebb thanks for all your work on this application, it gives a lot more realistic temperatures on my QX9650 than CoreTemp.
Ambient temp= probably around 9-10°C:
I am very thankful to Intel for not getting a "bugged" processor. CoreTemp has the processor at 15 to 20 degrees about ambient when the processor is putting out next to no heat, while RealTemp gives a handful of degrees above. Verynice.

Hi Uncle
Thanks for this great application and time you have spent on helping the community. I have a few questions! I use Watercooling and I have a very good setup with a 5 pass rad. When I had a Q6600 temps with coretemp were 25 degrees with 1.4vcore and now I have a E8500 they are showing in the high 40's!![]()
I was wondering what idle calibration temperature I should be using! In the screenshots I have shown the temp differences with 0 calibration and -- I was beginning to think I had a temp sensor bug but your application shows movement with the sensors!
Room Temp: 23 degrees
![]()
Sure, buy a better heatsink or install the one you have better and see what happens. The DTS is fairly accurate at the idle temperature you are at so the calibration feature has little effect here as you've found out. Post some more details like what cooler you're using, room temp and a CPU-z screen shot, etc. If your heatsink is OK and you do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE and nothing is running in the background warming things up then you might have IHS to core heat transfer issues.
Milamber: Your screen shot shows you're at 4000 MHz and 1.28 volts for your core. These sensors have two common problems. Some of them get stuck, you passed that test, and the other problem is that they tend to either report too high or too low at idle. My E8400 is like your E8500. It is probably reporting a little too high.
With a -2 calibration your CPU is reporting a minimum of 29C which is reasonable considering your core voltage. Without knowing a few more details like what cooling you're using it's hard for me to guess but a -1 or -2 looks about right to me. Don't make comparisons to previous processors being reported with different software. These sensors aren't that accurate at idle so it is impossible to make an apples to apples comparison.
In the newer versions you would add this to the RealTemp.ini file
Idle0=-2
Idle1=-2
Try the test in post#1 and lower your core voltage some more if possible and run at default MHz with C1E enabled to create less heat for testing purposes.
I'm trying a little experimental code for VID. It reports the same as CoreTemp for my Q6600. I'm not sure if CoreTemp is using the same formula or not so any feedback would be great.
I also added another item that you can add to the INI file:
StartMinimized=1
I don't think I have to explain that one.
The beta version is available from here:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip
A little bit of feedback and another feature to add and I'll update the main download link.
My Master Plan is coming together, piece by piece.Richard Dower: OK, i am totally digging this tray feature...i may just delete Core Temp altogether :-)Thanks for all the positive feedback.

Hello.
I tried RealTemp, and I got lower temps than CoreTemp right away, but I'm not here to comment on that (I know about calibration and all that), I'm here just to comment that your software shows a VID of 1.2156v for my CPU, while CoreTemp and the default vCore on my BIOS show 1.2375v.
I have a Q6600, G0 stepping, BATCH L737A716, PACK DATE 10/18/07, running at 3.0 GHz (333x9) @ 1.184v idle, and 1.152v load.
Thank you very much!

@uncle: loving the Start Minimize feature in the beta version 2.46...& temps seem to be close to Everest temps. keep up the good work!![]()
Can anyone tell me how accurate the Realtemp readings are with a new Q9550? I'm getting so many different readings from the BIOS, OCCT and Realtemp I don't know which one to believe:
Bios says idle temp is 21-24 degrees
OCCT says idle temp is 42-46 degrees
Realtemp says idle temp is 32-36 degrees
Room temperature is around 21-22 degrees.

My QX9650 reports VID = 1.2313 V using RealTemp. CoreTemp says 1.1375 V. It boots up at ~1.18V at full stock settings.

I don't see VID on my screen, TJMax is in its place. Do I need to configure it to show? Thanks...

One more thing, RealTemp's VID is 1.2000V while CoreTemp's 1.1125V. Which report is more accurate?

I tried your new beta v2.46 on my Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R and Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. The VID is close...
I added the StartMinimized option and noticed this...

Here's what I got with my EVGA 780i 132-CK-NF78-A1 and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600...
The Q6600 VID is not quite as close as the E6750.

Here's a shot with every program I have showing the VID. My VID is set to 1.35 in the bios. E8400 on an EVGA 780i board.

FRITZ - Your VID is the voltage default setting, not what you set it to in the BIOS...
@ Uncle... keep up the good work man. Core temp will never be on my PC again!!!!
I don't see VID, and i clicked through the square....got it, had to update to 2.46.

Thanks for all the VID feedback. The publicly available Intel documentation is rather lacking, again, when it comes to VID. All this data will really help me out and now I don't have to go play musical processors today! Thanks.
My personal opinion is that the VID that CoreTemp reports is a meaningless number because it can change depending on what motherboard you are using. The VID that RealTemp is reporting might be just as meaningless. I don't know if either program is telling you anything that is hard coded into the chip itself. Intel does not seem to publicly document this information probably because they don't want people hunting through a bunch of chips and trying to find a good one based on VID and returning the rest. I'll tweak the formula used based on the data posted but I won't be too upset if things don't line up exactly with CoreTemp. I've already learned that "just like CoreTemp" is not always a good thing.
Captn: Use the test as outlined in Post#1. You might need to go into the RealTemp.ini file and add this:
Idle0=1
but without doing the test, it's impossible for me to say. Show us some full Prime small FFT load temps as well.
msgclb: I apologize for trying to rub your nose that your dual core chip is missing a couple of cores! That's why these are beta versions. So users can report the issues and then I can fix them.
Edit: Here's my second try at VID that looks just like CoreTemp so everyone will be happy.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...alTempBeta.zip
Edit#2: Just checked all the above posts and the new formula seems to work. Now we need someone to install their CPU in two different motherboards and see if the VID stays the same or changes between different boards.

My (old)e8400 had the same VID from a X38 Asus Maximus Formula to my EVGA 780i on Core temp...

1.2375V for VID...which corresponds with what my bios says is the default Vcore for my CPU.
