Well I just spoke with the techsupport and they are saying it's a RAM issue. They suggested I try one of the recommended RAM from the mobo manual.
I have already tried OCZ 667mhz RAM and Hynix (one of the recommended ones from manual)
They are like ok we'll try to duplicate this problem and try to find a solution and give u a call bak within 24 hours.

If so, how was your experience? Lots of BIOS updates which is awesome Asus has bad tendancies to abandon boards soon after releasing them
I run a QX9650 on my P5K-E, no issues once I updated to an 06xx or later BIOS.

Where did you puchase it? Local, or etailer? If you can, bypass Asus, and try
to do an even exchange for a new p5k-e from the place you purchased it.

Give it a shot, some retail stores will do at least an exchange, or a store credit even without a receipt. It has worked 8 times out of 10 for me when Iv'e lost
    receipts before.

Yeah it's worth a shot, especially if you paid with a credit card.

I dont need a receipt to return things I bought with my American Express card.

    and which store does that

none of the stores here in China town do RMA's or other exchanges without receipt cuz they think u bought somewhere else etc...
they need to confirm the serial number from the mobo matching with the serial on the receipt

So you have tried it? Also most (smart) businesses do keep records of serial
numbers of products they recive, and sell, they should know if the product was sold through them based on the serial number.

I havn't done it but when a friend of mine needed to have RMA work done through the retail store. They checked the Mobo for serial as well as the receipt and only then they agreed.

thnx, I will try, maybe they'll be able to search for serials that they have sold in the past months. Otherwise I'm willing to pay the shipping to RMA it to ASUS US instead of having to buy a whole new board.

    gues what?

u were right!!! They (filtech Computers) scanned the serial number from the box and they were able to find the receipt in their system which they reprinted for me. They accepted it and said they will RMA it and it'll take anywhere from 4-6 weeks.
I hope they will fix the issue.

    Thanks for everyone's advice btw.

has anyone recieved a Cmos Checksum Error while posting? i went to shutdown my pc one night and ended up with a bsod, upon restarting i ended up with this little greeting. i thought it was just the cmos battery so i replaced it and still receive this error but now only after i clear cmos

also now i'm bsoding all over the place, just went back to stock settings and am seeing how it pans out. all my bios settings aside from o/c are setup as i had them before this occured. i did a memtest run and it passed as well. only recent mods i did aside from battery change was add different nb and ram fan.

i've read a few other forums and some who have had this problem, like me, has eventually got to the point where they could not even boot into windows.

    any suggestions?

Is possible run the black PCIe slot at 16X when the blue slot is empty?

I put my 8800GTX in the balck slot because the Accelero Xtreme 8800 is too big and I have problems with the s-ata ports (can't install the card when the s-ata calbes are plugged )

No, the black slot is connected the the ICH9 (South Bridge) and only supports
a maximum of 4 pcie lanes (4x) on that slot. You will be taking a big
performance hit on the black slot. Not recommended.

One solution is to use a sata cable with a 90 degree (right angle)
connector, and even then you still wont be able to use all the sata ports.

The other solution would be replacing the stock 8800GTX cooler with a water block,
however that solution is only viable if you have a water cooled setup.

seems to be ok at stock, it can't pin down what it is, flashed to bios 0602 and seems to be ok altho i still got the cmos error upon first start after flash only. all 4dimms of mem are ok on memtest. bios settings are now being saved after a new battery. only oc bios settings i had on auto were gtl, maybe i'll try and play with those. bleh.. i've gone thru too many mobo's o/cing in the past year. hopefully it's just user error and not in need of rma.

    hi everyone

just bought a E8400, after a few minutes of testing here is the first result:

    E8400 @ 4,5Ghz
    Asus P5K-E @ bios 1012
    TG Elite 2x2GB @ DDR1000 5-5-5-15
    Shappire X300 default

i´m sure that is not needed so much vcore but tomorrow will do "real tests", this one was only to see spi numbers

    regards

dont remenber the details i´ll post later on full results, it was only a quick test for a few minutes to see if it achieve the 500FSB

i will probably be limited by the FSB limit of the board and ram but lets see how far this can go, for now it was very easy to get the 9x500FSB

Just to spread the word, the stock cooling is terrible...the northbridge sink wasn't even making contact! I replaced it with an aftermarket Enzotech sink which is much much better. The mosfet cooling was the same until I gave them a nice push down...now they are making contact...my southbridge sink seems to be working so far...but I plan on swapping that one with an aftermarket sink as well...this is all on the P5K-E (non-wifi).

Has anyone tried using one of the many HDT HSFs out there with a quad on this board?
