Wish could get to the bottom of it, but I still havent seen any conclusive evidence. Your board RunawayPrisoner is probably the best clocking I have seen, all the X38/X48 boards with the exception of DFI's UT stuff seems to have the exact same problem.... all crap out at 440FSB, I am really doubting that its the chips doing so too.
Good sign. I'll try this if I get home before 11PM...

I second this, same as here.

I wish I had another quad to test, I might go buy another and see if its chip or more so the board. Runaway you wouldnt wanna sell one of your 3.8ghz chips would ya?
I don't think so, mine behaved exactly the same...

Well it seems we are getting somewhere.... Does anyone have older P5K's and things to test these chips on? I see almost everyone with *ironically* the board that wasnt supposed to OC 45nm well *cough* 780/790I *cough* all have theirs clocking flawlessly.

I wonder whats going on? And I wonder if Asus plans to do anything about the problems with X38/48 45nm clocking.

After all the info I have gathered over the past couple days, I think I will hold onto this chip and see if it pays off to ride it out.

I have a P5K-E I could also try but it's not before the weekend since I'm waiting for a new heatsink to get home.

Ahahaha, the onboard graphics adapter couldn't take the abuse at 500MHz... and it crashed the entire system (literally hung everything) before I could take a screenshot, so... maybe no 4.0GHz stable until I get my 9800GTX to make it easier on the board.
By the way, seems like 4.0GHz is only stable at 1.48v load... and my board has such a large vdrop/vdroop that I have to set BIOS at 1.55v to get 1.52v idle and 1.49v load!

Quick testing couldn't get 6x475 to even post on my DFI.

Rather than waiting, I pricematched the P5E-VM HDMI at a store just minutes away from my train station. The X3350 is sitting in there.. just waiting for me to find it a heatsink to drop on it.

For now I've popped my E8500 back into my main rig and have it happily at 4.3 GHz until I get around to working on the quad tonight

EDIT: You're clocking 8x475 using onboard video???

Anyone tried an X3350 on a G33? Prospective buyer for my chip has an Intel DG33TL and is worried it may not run.

if the mobo can run a Q9450 it should work

I did 505 using onboard video already. Reposting:

^= Vista Aero using GMA X3500

But the adapter doesn't show up in the validation:
    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=345603

And anyway, it wouldn't last for anything above stock settings. It'll last for probably half an hour... and then it'll die painfully (a.k.a. crash the system). I suspect it's either due to premature drivers on Vista... or I'm just pushing the board too hard.

I just tried a range of 1.3v FSB to 1.5v FSB with 450x8 333mhz and every combination of GTL from .62x-.67x and none of them yielded any different results. It only changed when I set the strap to 266mhz instead of 333/400mhz

So that being said... 440mhz FSB x 8 boots perfectly fine with 1.3v FSB .63xGTLREF, and 1.65v NB and 1.5v PLL, 333mhz NB Strap DDR2 1053. Now why does almost every single 9450/3350 boot with those identical settings? but the minute you go higher, nothing happens and you cant even get into windows.

At this point I am 100% confident that it is something with certain chips, and the motherboard, and current BIOS there is some correlation between it all, just some anomalies here and there as to what people are getting for stability, and FSB max's but for the most part it has been 440mhz FSB limitation, much like the 968mhz core lock the HD3870 had before a new BIOS because of a bad PLL Divider. I wonder if something similar isnt occuring with 45nm chips?

    So

    P5E-VM HDMI BIOS 0405

Exact same settings as RunawayPrisoner... boots 3.8 GHz into my DOS USB key.
    Voltage Damper ENABLED.

Time to sell my DFI LT X38-T2R

EDIT: Won't get into Vista just yet.. celebration may be too early.. but at least it's posting 8x475

    And... thus far, 3.80GHz stable:

vCore: 1.325v (1.304v idle real, and 1.288v load real)
    CPU volt ref: 0.61x
PLL volt: 1.54v (or maybe 1.58v something)
    FSB term volt: 1.28v (I think that's it? Or maybe it's 1.36v)
    NB volt: 1.47v
    NB volt ref: 0.61x

Try that for 475 FSB, guys?

    WTF lol?

Hmm... then P5E-VM HDMI seems to be ideal for this chip if you don't want to mess around too much.

Oh yeah, and try POSTing at above 500. You'll be surprised.

For instance... I just found out I could boot at up to 524! 525 won't POST at all, though.

    8x475, 333 Strap

    overcharge 0.80 V
vcore 1.3875v (HUGE droop to 1.304ish in BIOS)
    cpu vref 0.59x
voltage damper enabled (does this do anything on this board?)
    pll 1.56
    dram 2.10 (gskill 2x2gb)
    fsb 1.36
    nb 1.57
    nbvref 0.61x
    sb 1.05v

Boots into Vista X64, Prime95 4 thread smallfft and instant BSOD. Need to tweak but at least it is getting in to Windows now!

Time to eat a snack, relieve myself and take a shower... haha. frigging.

Yes, the vdrop and vdroop on this board is sooo very huge! I have to set 1.425v to get 1.38v for the Q9450... and then it'll load its max at 1.36v.

Are there any boards that support the Q9450 and haven't been able to boot a X3350? I read another xtremsystems poster mention his friend's 965 won't boot a X3350, but that's hearsay.

Maybe we should create a separate thread for P5E-VM HDMI and C1 quads? heh.
Seems BIOS 0503 recognizes C1s and I am no longer prompted to hit F1 every boot

Yes, that's right. Though you should still be able to overclock with 0405. It's as if... 0503 was just to remove that F1 prompt. lol

And by the way, I'm going to make a movie clip of max POST settings (524MHz) right now!

P.S.: And oh yeah, maybe I'll create the thread afterwards. 524MHz bootable with a C1 quad should turn some heads.

    1.4750 Vcore set BIOS = 1.440 V idle and 1.300 V load in CPU-Z ???

    EDIT:
1.5000 Vcore set bios = something idle, 1.320 V load Primed 2 min and reboot.

Yeah. vCore is really wack. 1.7v is actually just 1.6v. Beyond 1.6v, it's a loop back to 1.5v.

Edit: And it hang right before it could complete POSTing at 525 so I guess I'll go with 524 as the world record. Made by... an mATX board!

Is that my old P5K-DLX? Id love to see your results with it.

I simply cant believe that P5E-VM HDMI board is out performing the Maximus and Rampage so far..... what gives? I also cannot use it because I have dual HD3870 X2's and that board only has 1 PCIE.
