    fsb/4*cpu multi = cpu speed.

    1700 / 4 * 9.5 = 4037.5Mhz

Not sure if anyone saw this on AnandTech (SOURCE)

We share test notes on an almost continual basis with each other when testing boards. We thought some of the test notes from our upcoming roundup would be interesting. In all fairness to NVIDIA, we are including our X48 thoughts as we wrap up testing.

    790i test notes:

    a) CPU multiplier likes to changes at will, causing an inability to POST after changing BIOS options. (Problem is likely linked to bad NVIDIA base code).

    b) Poor memory read performance above 475FSB unless you enable “P1” and “P2” which NVIDIA refuses to document operation of or provide information about.

    c) EVGA/XFX (NVIDIA reference design) lacks support for tRFC tuning - high density DDR3 configurations often refuse to work unless the module SPDs are tuned from the manufacturer. (This makes them needlessly slow in low-density configurations.)

    d) The chipset does not do a very good job of balancing read vs. write priorities with respect to memory access - copy scores lower than X38/X48.

    e) Regardless of what NVIDIA says, we think PCI-E 2.0 (and 1.x) implementation is still better on Intel’s Express chipsets - give us SLI on Intel to prove it!!!

    f) Possible problem with NVIDIA reference design: sustained overclocked operation at >~1.9V for VDIMM may cause critical failure of 790i (Ultra) SPP. This does not seem to affect ASUS S2E design and is the most critical issue facing the board; we need to verify before making recommendations.

    g) Possible HDD corruption issues. (We lost the two 74GB WD Raptors so far…)

    X48 test notes:

    a) Chipset defaults to tRD values that are excessively loose and are not competitive with NVIDIA’s new 790i. The problem is most MB manufacturers do not allow this to be specifically tuned in the BIOS.

    b) DMI interface (x4 PCI-E link) is sloooow….X38/X48 should have been paired with ICH10(R), which will be PCI-E 2.0 compliant on the link interface.

    c) Haven’t found an Intel X48 board yet that will handle 8GB of DDR3 properly, even though this is a major bullet for chipset support - board or memory makers? (We need to test this on the Intel DX48BT2 that just arrived.)

    d) Chipset runs HOT…might even be hotter than 790i. Intel should have shrunk this thing long ago!

GTL settings - can someone tell me what this is and what it does?

i haven't touched it at all, just left it on 'auto'... is it helping anyone's OC experience?

A very good article about the electrical noise and what GTL does with regards to VTT(Termination voltage).I just skimmed through it. I would have to sit and read through it whenever I have time. BTW, I borrowed the link from here, when I was doing my reasearch for my P5N-T.

My tech station is ready for this board though.. I will mess with my Q6600 1st before I buy myself a QX9650...

Ok I started over with this board, reflashed bios ect.
I really must say, just amazing how it runs.
Now that I've done some homework I can trully say really how stable 550FSB is. I had it running at 600FSB but really I have no idea why or what i'm doing up there LMAO.
So I like 550 it just seems to scream there, I played COD 4 for hours & truly it was a blast.

if this board doesn't work. I promise no..more..asus..boards..ever.

This is the 3rd horribly undersupported motherboard.

    -commando
    -680i (striker.."cpu init" absorbed cost)
-790i (just plain horrible, picky, unstable oc's, memholes?, worse bios than the original one).

    Class action lawsuit?

    Dude,

There's lots of other vendors out there... Go for it...

I'm an Asus FanBoy and I took delivery of three, yes three Striker II Formulas before I got one that would post and remain stable. NewEgg blamed it on "poor quality control". How 'bout no quality control.

But my first S II E is an absolute winner. It should be for $469 US..!!

So I don't blame you if you by someone else. Lots of folks are very happy with their reference boards..

    Good luck

Question has anyone tried a 9800GTX card with this board yet? I thought I read somewhere they are having problems? I get my new eVGA 9800GTX SSC cards tomorrow and just wondering if I may run into any problems with them...

Your CellShock can do 5-5-5-15 @ 1333... on the other side... current BIOSes can't ( unless that's only happening on my board )

    Hey guys

I've receveid my S2E yesterday, and after a whole afternoon with it ... I ask myself: How can I kill it ? ^^

More seriously, I encounter the worse issues I never seen on a board: BSOD everytime, OS unstable, restart and Christmas Tree mobo ...

    I use: Q6600 B3, 2Go OCZ XMP and 2Go casual DDR3 1600MHz, 2 Raptors 74Go and 9600 GT in SLI.

First, my raptor were been killed down I can't install os anymore and disks are not recognised anymore ...

Then, maybe I've overvolted the NB 'cause I've set 1.58 for 1600 FSB on my Q6600 and after check the temp' I was near 60° for the NB ... Is that possible ?

So ! What's wrong with this board ? I use 0511 BIOS found in this topic ...

    Thanks in advance guys

LCD Poster debug code unknown errormessage?

typically I've installed the Northbridge waterblock/fusion system started up my SIIE for the first time only to be presented withan error message that isn't in the debug code table?

Error message is "ERROR MESSAGE", the word message is abbreviated to fit onto the screen. CPU, RAM and hard drives all past the post tests but this error manifests itself by not allowing me to have any display through my 9800 GPU, on either DVI sockets, so I can't even go into the BIOS!

The 9800 GPU which is also brand new works on another motherboard so I know that's not faulty. Any suggestions would be appreciated or shall I just RMA the motherboard after all the hard work of installing the water block/fusion block?

Before I go I would like to give out this warning, DO not under any circumstances used the reducers/fittings at Asus supplied with this motherboard, they leak or completely fail with any lateral pressure, as I found out to my cost, but fortunately I had no other components installed and I was using non conductive coolants!

Any help on the debug code error message would be appreciated as I'm sure you guys will be quicker than Asus.

typically I've installed the Northbridge waterblock/fusion system started up my SIIE for the first time only to be presented withan error message that isn't in the debug code table?

The LCD shows "ErrMsg" whenever there is a POST error. It did it when I got the message during my post that my NB,SB and CPU was overheating. Also, look @ the sequence of the LCD post message. It usually gives you indication which component could be the trouble maker. It starts from "Code Init" then "CPU init" and so on.
