    Lightbulb Overclock 3870X2 at startup

Since I couldn't find a working software that overclocked my card at startup beyond CCC limits, I came up with Ghetto solution using AMDGPUTool, a .bat file and the Windows Startup folder.

1 - Download latest AMDGPUClockTool and extract to a folder.

2 - Open notepad and paste the lines below, editing AMDGPUClockTool folder and the desired clocks (GPU, Memory). Save it with a name.bat.

    start D:\AMDGPUClockTool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=0 -ENG=875 -MEM=1000 &
    start D:\AMDGPUClockTool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=1 -ENG=875 -MEM=1000 &
3 - Copy or Move the name.bat file to the folder:

    C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    DONE!!!

Every time Windows is started, the clocks will be applied automatically.

For those who have 2x 3870x2, two more lines should be included in the .bat file, changing only the -I parameter to =2 and =3.

This tip works with all AMDGPUClockTool supported cards.

    That's cool.

I recently got rid of my X2 as it died but that was one of my pet hates about it - having to apply the OC every time you boot up.

I'm sure the remaining X2 owners will use this

Just so you know, I clocked both of my 3870s to 850/1251 (rock stable) in the CCC and I guess the CCC keeps the clocks because every time I start a game or 3Dapp after rebooting my clocks go to that....

I guess you have the modified BIOS in your cards, this is why you can clock higher with CCC.

The 3870X2 clock limits at CCC are very low, memory can't pass 955

Yeah, I flashed both of my cards many times before, but now I am just using the regular 860Mhz core fix.

I agree with the flashing, I had my card flashed twice, mostly to correct the Powerplay and replace fan temp. table.

But I change my mind very often about clocks and I didn't feel like doing a flash everytime, so I figured that would be nice to have an software option as I did with my previous cards.

It's all about choice, flashing or software will do the job now

Exactly the same reason here! Except for the fan (both my cards are under water), I flashed to fix the powerplay issue, but then wanted to overclock and could not do that with my cards flashed, so I reverted to the stock bios (fixes the 860Mhz Wall though) and now I can overclock.

Another negative thing is, that you don't have the 2d clocks anymore when u overclock it with amd-gpuclocktool. So the temp. rise when u are in windows.

    But it's all about choice.

Hmm, I dont really recall it rising that much, but I bet it would for people with the regular coolers... Especially ones who complain about the noise (what noise???) coming from them and turn them down.

    i have a sapphire 3870x2 and i'm about to begin overclocking it with the CCC tools. I have a watercooling kit so i'm 34C at idle i got the DD block and memory coolers;
there aren't currently any other tools out their that overclock it better than CCC? I previously had a 1950xtx card and ati tool worked for it

I'm also about to download the hotfix

i have GPUZ, the CCC control, and I have the AMD GPU clock tool. I will start on overclocking mine this weekend, yes I know its Monday, I have WAY too much going on. work is killer, and getting home and having to do all kinds of stuff sucks too.

now I have to modify the AMD GPU like you said in your first post to keep the clocks at startup... i will test this all this weekend.

    thanks for the info

Are you sure about the place were you have AMDGPUClockTool instaled?

    start D:\AMDGPUClockTool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=1 -ENG=875 -MEM=1000 &

The path underlined/bold should be replaced with the instalation folder used in your system, the one in my file is not default

well now nothing pops up saying it cannot find the file, but my gpu clocks stay at stock, so looks like for some reaon I'm doing it wrong, here is what I'm putting in the file.bat

    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe-I=0 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe-I=1 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe-I=2 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe-I=3 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    and it's not working??

Try to put a space between the "exe" and "-I"

    It should look like this:

    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=0 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=1 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=2 -ENG=865 -mem=985
    C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\AMD GPU Clock Tool\amdgpuclocktool.exe -I=3 -ENG=865 -mem=985
Also, it's always better to not have spaces in the folder names. You could also try to install AMDGPUClockTool in a folder without spaces in the name.

ok guys... i used the CCC with the card through ATI... and I just slid the sliders all the way up and clicked test. it tested fine. well then I went to play wow with my friends last night, and after about 20min my screen did funny things and ATI did the VPU recover and it came back; well then I was able to get in and change the sliders to stock and it played fine.

question is, did I not get my waterblock set on it completely level/touching all components and it caused this? or am I missing a bios setting to up the voltage to the card?

speaking of settings, if you go past the standard clocks or even up to the MAX clocks in ATI CCC, how do you change the voltage or do you? I have looked and see no way to change the voltage, either with CCC or with AMDGPUZ.

just wondering if i can get some help overclocking this thing
