I received a Q9450 L811A506 tray version today. I will use it tonight on my Maximus Formula with bios modded to Rampage 0308 along with a net set of Mushkin PC2-8000 Redline 2x2 GB.

Does anyone have a experience with that batch ?

I've seen alot of L803 chips...you've got a very recent chip, week 11 of 2008?

Thats like the end of March.

But lets go even deeper - according to the urban ledged about the last two digits on the PCB, he has a #11 chip. In theory, this shoud be a good overclocker..............

6A0111. I bet that that's the bottom line of being "close" to 0! But I tend to not trust urban legends, really. My last chip ended with 96 and my new one ended with 63, and they both went to or above 4GHz.

So far, a quick attempt with a Maximus Formula modded to Rampage 0308, I was only able to reach 8x440. 8x450 resulted in DET DRAM or freeze just at OS loading. 8x440 is rock stable overnight with folding and temps is great (everything is watercooled minus my SB, which have a Enzotech low-profile heatsink with a 120mm fan blowing thru).

Can you give me bios settings for that setup. Cause my X3350 really unstable up to 440 x 8 and dont even want to POST at 450 x8 . Thanks

I'll list my own settings tonight but it's a rough one (some voltages is a bit high as I wanted to get it stable asap for folding overnight). I will try for 8x445 hopefully (If I can't reach 8x450, I will try to get as close as possible and leave as is).

hey all, first post here. I recently picked up a system with these specs:
    9800gtx (ok wasn't a stellar choice I got a good deal)
    q9450
    msi p7n platinum
coolit freezone cpu cooler (got this for free for a review ^_^)

Anyways, since it's a water cooler, the passive heatpipe doesn't get the job done. It also has 2 different chips so active cooling directly isn't really an option. It's in a CM stacker case, however, and I haven't used the sidepanel 120mm mount.

I can't seem to get past 3.4ghz or so stable, and I'm nervous about cranking the nb voltage because it gets so damn hot you can't even touch the hs. I would a rigged cardboard wind tunnel going straight from a 120mm fan on the case side to the circular heatsink get my problems in order?

Finlay it seems I have stabilized mine at 440FSB - 3400MHz at 1.2750V and NBV 1.51V. I tried 450FSB I booted up Windows just fine but when I launch Prime it freezes

I have noticed that my CPU has a stuck thermal sensor my first core temps almost don't change
At 100% load with prime my tems are 38-46-54-54
Thanks to ATI the Prices are The Way they are Meant to be.

Yes. Mine also stuck at 3.4Ghz. I've tried any voltage, but no go.

I think my MB might be the main problem...

mine has two stuck sensors, one on each side on the unit,it's an oem one and I didn't get the production id numbers off it but the vid is identified as 1.0375
3.2 is occt stable with a fsb only adjustment, good enough to do my needs
I like the cooler operation in my smallish den

hey tv addict, what do you mean with stuck sensors? like they are stuck in one temp and not reading them or that you actually stuck two sensors haha?

i also have a q9450, coretemp and hw monitor read that core 0 and 1 are on 39~43 degrees, but core 3 and core 4 are always stuck on 70 degrees ._.', they dont move, always 70. Is this normal? should i return the cpu or keep it?

here i have two screens, with real temp testing the sensors

3.4GHz stable running Prime95 and OCCT...on default Vcore, i tried 3.45 and 3.5GHz and OCCT crashed within 5 minutes, i didn't increase Vcore though...3.4 is fine for me, i dislike raising voltages if i can avoid it.

I'd like to throw some 1200MHz memory into the mix though to really get some performance.

1.0375VID is normal, i have the same VID with C1E and EIST options enabled, overclocking raises the VID 1.1250V.

    I am lucky too

Q9450 OEM L806B090 with Rampage Formula Bios 308:
    OCCT stable @ 3.8Ghz with 1.325v
Posting @ 4ghz (8 x 500) but Vista will crash and well I don't want to push voltages more just to do a cpuz validate.

Thanks RunAwayPrisoner and all the others who posted their bios settings
It's about the same settings here, just small differences.

I can post settings, screenshots, ... after more testing if needed.
Water cooling the N/B definitely helped I guess.

PS: still trying to figure out real temperatures

+1... Nothing more enraging than to see those who post about successfully overclocking above the dreaded 3.6 GHz wall without posting the config

Ok ok, I post my full Rampage setting for 3.8GHz now (config is in signature)

    Disclaimer:

** Update more than one year later processor still alive. Get Bios 0902 ! Best overclocker version atm. I could e.g. lower my N/B voltage by over 0.2V ! **

"I only plan to keep that processor & motherboard for one year. They both can die if Nehalem motherboards, processors and cheaper DDR3 is out: I won't mind at all. Do it at your own risks so.
I hope we will get an improved Bios for X48 chipset where we can lower the VTT voltage but till then, you should stay at 3.6GHz if you want to keep your CPU for several years.
It is true that applying over 1.45V to a CPU or VTT with 45nm technology can damage your system." (Safe settings for 3.6GHz at the end of this post)

    Work in progress:
    Done:
    -OCCT 2hours stable
-Prime95 stable (better stay at 3.6GHz if you want to run such Folding programs 24/7)

    To do:
    -Find best RAM timers

3.8Ghz with little issues...I have a feeling this is my 24/7 sweet spot on this chip. I bet I could pump some volts through it and bench 4Ghz...that or I am missing something. Anyway, enjoy the pic! Settings listed below.

    Bios volts - 1.38v
CPUz reports - 1.36v idle, 1.37v load (board vdroop pencil modded)
    NB(SPP) volts - 1.45v
    SB(MCP) volts - 1.6v
    GTLvref volts - +30mv (all 4 settings)
Memory volts - 2.2 (can probably lower this).

Nice settings, guys. See? I kept on shouting that it wasn't the chip...

Anyway, gears will arrive here in a few hours... and then I'll see if 4GHz is stable or benchable!
